Giveaway: Handmade Home

This giveaway is a book straight from my very own wishlist!! A copy of Handmade Home: Simple Ways to Repurpose Old Materials into New Family Treasures.

We’ve heard great things and thought it would be fun to give away a copy to one lucky Prudent Mama (although you don’t have to be a Mama, or even a girl, or even prudent to win!) But you do have to live in the US.

Just leave a comment telling us which of your holiday projects you just didn’t get to this year. I ask because I want to feel better about ordering Christmas cards and having them over-nighted rather than making them myself. I’m feeling really guilty and disappointed in myself. So let it spill. What fell through the cracks?

Feel free to spread the word on Facebook, Twitter or your blog and if you do, leave another comment here for an extra chance to win!

On Friday, December 18th at Midnight CT, we will close comments and select a winner using Random.org

And don’t forget to enter all of the current giveaways listed up there in the right corner! The Yard Fauna Notecard Giveaway ends at Midnight tonight. Just a few hours left!!

Oh, there's so many projects that didn't get done! Someone in our family has been sick for the past 3 weeks and now it is my turn. So, none of those projects look like they will get done. I have a tote bag I've been meaning to make for a butterfly-loving cousin. I bought the fabric 2 years ago. And still it sits in my stash…. This year she's getting a store-bought gift that I found on a stinkin' good sale. Next year I guess she'll get her tote bag…. maybe…. if she's lucky….

Thanks for the chance to enter!

You feel bad? Here are all the projects I really wanted to make:
Advent Calendar
Stockings
Apron for my sister (love the tutorial!)
Crayon Rolls
Knit 2,3,4, a million little hats
Finish daughter's quilt
Snowflakes for windows
Make gingerbread that didn't suck
AND– Paint & transform guest bedroom for daughter, baby #2 will be taking over her nursery in a few months

So. You and your beautiful blog of goodness should NOT feel guilty.

I got a lot of projects done this season, but nothing really Christmasy. Having a baby due any moment is a great procrastination motivator. In fact, I made a deliberate decision to NOT do a tree. My nesting cleanliness would not allow me to have anything underfoot like pine needles, cat-broken ornamets, pet fur filled tree skirt, or did I mention pine needles? We did finish the baby's room last week with no baby yet, so I feel accomplished, regardless. I also made myself a hot-mess mommy headband that's been on my unwashed-messy-bun head for the last 2 days. Love it.

Christmas projects? I didn't even really plan any this year because I've had morning sickness for over two months. It's so sad because just this week I started feeling better, but now it's feeling too late. And as for your Christmas cards, seriously, we've never sent any in the 6 years we've been married. The best I've ever done is a Christmas email. So, don't feel bad about yourself. Just think of me and my underachieving Christmas email 🙂

Ooooh that's so awesome. I used vintage fabric and made all 20 of my nieces and nephews monogrammed super hero capes. I think they'll love them. I'm the mama of 2 kids. Noah is 3 and Hazel is 1. I am also expecting another baby in July, YAY!!!

Hahaha! I'm glad that I'm not the only one with "good" intentions that just never seem to get done on willpower alone. I'd hoped to make an advent calender and eagerly anticipated getting a tree which I intended to decorate so beautifully with cranberry and popcorn strands, homemade dried orange slice ornaments and beeswax ornaments (which are just about the only thing I did get done! Oh well, they'll have to wait for next year to be hung). I finally just opted to "decorate" a fallen tree branch with some paper snowflakes and a few gold ornaments. It's not green and is missing that beautiful tree smell, but it looks nice hanging in front of my window. And at least I have SOME ornaments up this year!

Everything will have to wait until next year. Especially a homemade advent calendar. We moved two days ago and I think I've managed to locate the Christmas decos. Of note: I did collect some festive pine cones on a walk and plan to hang them with pretty ribbons on the new mantle. First I have to locate the "ribbon" box. hmm… maybe a collection of pine cones sitting on the mantle will do. Glitter… glitter is the answer.

What a fantastic giveaway! I am actually working on my daughter's Christmas ornament RIGHT NOW and tomorrow will be making a paper chain witht "'Twas the night before Christmas" recited on it 🙂 But the one thing I didn't get to this year was making my kiddos an advent calendar 🙁 #1 project for next year though! Thanks for the chance to win!

Where to begin with that question? ! With a preschooler and a newborn, this season has taken some what of a backseat. Our tree was not trimmed to my liking (at all) but it was something I just shrugged off. Nothing has been baked yet. I did not get anything or make anything for my daughters class, oh how the list goes on and on…

Just found your blog and it's wonderful! I've been lusting for this book for quite some time. I've been pretty good about getting Christmas projects done this year. However, one project I didn't get to was making these really great sunburst mirrors with automotive mirrors, old sheet music and glitter. I guess there's always next year.

I got married in Mexico in November and I am still trying to get my life back on track. I have received a ton of holiday cards, however, I will not be sending any back as I am still sending out "thank you" cards for the wedding. I also have not bought one single Christmas gift. It looks like I will be hitting the malls on Christmas Eve.

I gave this book to a friend for her birthday, but almost kept it for myself cause I loved it so much. I'd love to have one for myself. What a great giveaway!
This year I didn't make stockings–again. this is the 3rd year I've had plans, but haven't made it past the planning stage. Last year I planned on making them once we got to my parent's. I though I'd have time. Not only did I not have time, but I forgot to bring all my materials. So I found some funky, pretty ugly, old school ones at the $ store. They were "felt" that you glue together yourself. My kids (2 & 4) loved them. And this year they want to keep the ones from last year.
"But we love them Mommy!"
And my sister made me get one for the baby, so…..
I guess I should let the homemade stocking dream die.

This year I really wanted to make a hanging advent calendar for my daughter by sewing little 25 little baggies with numbers on them and hanging them to a ribbong with clothespins… but with a baby due on 12/25 I've found myself with too much other things to get done and we bought a $1.99 one with the icky chocolate… oh well, maybe next year I'll make two, one for her and one for baby… yeah right 😉 clampco@wavecable.com

I really wanted to make Christmas postcards this year (to eliminate the use/waste of envelopes), but they just didn't turn out how I thought, so I ended up printed out some photographs from a trip to Mexico and pasting them on to card stock, then I had to put them in an envelope to protect the picture…maybe next year, I'll try again.

I'd really wanted to send out a mix CD to all of my friends in other parts of the country or the world, but it's far too late for that now, nor do I have the funds for shipping and so forth. Maybe next year, or for some other holiday (Valentine's Day perhaps…) – I feel bad when projects fall by the wayside but I know it happens to everyone.

I move around a lot for work and all of my decorations are in storage…BURIED. This year, I'm not working for the holidays and felt the need to decorate. So, I ended up going to Target to buy new ornaments for a small tree. I thought this would make me feel better, but it just depressed me more. I want my traditional decorations! I found out a couple weeks before Christmas that I am moving to Hawaii for 4.5 months – for a job!

This has derailed most of my original Christmas plans. I've not gotten around to making and ordering my photobooks for the people in my life. It's the one way I feel I can share my photography so that people can "interact" with it as opposed to simply standing and looking. I'm bummed about not finishing, but preparing to move temporarily is much more difficult than moving for good. So I think everyone will understand.

My Christmas Tree. I know, sad, isn't it? But I am moving the week after Christmas, and with the boxing, selling, listing, cleaning, and organizing, putting up the tree just fell off as a non-priority. Hoping to have it for them by Mother's Day 2010.

There are so many things I always set out thinking I'm going to do every year and I never do. Usually I try to have all Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving, but as soon as I got over my almost 5 months of morning sickness my 2 year old got sick and passed it to the rest of us. That put a damper on my plans. This year I will just be happy to have all the gifts taken care of and some cookies baked and wonderful family to spend the holiday with. Then next year I can blame my not having things done on my 9 month old who will, of course, be into everything he shouldn't which will require all of my attention.

I am going to start on next year's Christmas presents in January this year… I wanted to make everyone knitted afgans. With ten days left until Christmas, I doubt that will get done :). I was able to only make 1 handmade gift this year.

I need to plan little by little and be more disciplined throughout the year. Waiting until the holiday season does not work. Especially when not much in my life puts me in an especially Christmasy type mood.

If I waited for the holiday mood to put me in the mood to make Christmas presents, I'd really be in trouble. Living in CA doesn't bring much winter and I can't rely on special Starbucks lattes to do it.

Working on Christmas presents throughout the year will also give me more time to spend with my mom, who can always teach me something.

I copied and framed a picture of my grandfather from when he was younger for my aunts and cousins. To finish the project off I was going to look through the old newspapers and find the article that he was on location writing. I went to the library one day to look for it and didn't find it in the date I thought I would. I haven't had the time to go back and look for it again. It would just complete the gift so much, but I know I don't have the time to go back and look through all of the old papers!

So I'm not a mama-but I was ready to feel oh-so-prudent yesterday. Short story long, I've been reading your blog for a few weeks now and have become OBSESSED! I thought I'd try some DIY projects last night and I burnt ALL of my cookies, the soy wax only made one candle, and sewing by hand is NOT the same as using a sew machine (probably a big "duh" on that one-but more than prudent, I am self righteous and believe I can do anything!)
So that was me finishing NO projects this year… although I did manage to mail "Santa" both crafters' wishlists for Christmas….commme onnnnn sewing machine!

I had great plans to made handmade crochet cards. I have 2 dozen holly leaves and mistletoe leaves made without any berries. Back to the shop bought ones. But at least I am ahead for next year!!!!

My 3 yr old is big into barrettes and bows- only small ones, not big ones… So I thought I'd put some put some small bows on barrettes for her and her little sister. I'm still thinking about it, but as the time ticks closer and closer to Santa's arrival, it's getting less and less likely.

Didn't get to? It's not Christmas yet! There are some crafty gifts that may have to wait. And decor that went back down to the garage. And . . .

I'm supposed to just pick 1 thing I didn't get to? Hmmmmm- I still haven't finished my boys' stockings (they are 4 and 2- we've improvised every year). Didn't get gifts for neighbors done, either. Oops!

This is an excellent giveaway! I've really been wanting this book. I'm a beginning sewer, so I set my expectations pretty low for hand-made Christmas gifts. Fortunately, I was able to finish all of the gifts for other people (I hate showing up gift-less). However, I didn't get to making stockings for me & my husband this year. I also want to try making an advent calendar, but I just did not have time to get that all done. Good news is I have the next 12 months to do it!

Hmmm, where do I start? I haven't bought any gifts for my husband, yet….have opted out of getting a tree this year because we just didn't have time to put the ornaments up….never ordered Christmas cards because I realized addressing them would take too long and the anxiety of finding the perfect picture for the front of the card sent me into hysterics…my biggest most embarrassing project that I haven't gotten around to and have dubbed it a holiday project due to the fact that it is December, is that I have not even sent HALF of my Thank You notes from my wedding which was in June…pathetic, rude, sad all around. Give me a break, though, I am a first year SpEd teacher!
