Wine rack as yarn storage

All of our talk of getting organized inspired me this weekend. We rearranged and finally moved our empty wine shelves out of the living room. There’s nothing sadder than an empty wine shelf. Have no fear, the wine has found a new fancy home. But back to the lonely little shelf that was banished to the craft cave. Ta Da! A pretty rainbow of yarn storage. And more drawer space to boot! Ultimately, the shelves will be moving to a space where there is no direct sunlight. These little shelves would also be perfect for jars of notions and baubles. Now if I could only find a use for all those empty cigarette cartons. I kid, I kid.

Of course, as soon as I finished my happy little display I found another GIANT tub of yarn. I have a vice, y’all and it isn’t wine. Must step away from Michaels.

Note: as requested by Alix from Modern Kiddo, here is where you can buy your very own inchworm. Isn’t he an adorable blast from the past?

This is pretty genius….and so colorful! I can't knit to save my life, but it's so colorful I feel like I need to have amazing balls of yarn in my living just to make me smile!

As great as this is, however, can we discuss the AMAZING GLOW WORM rider thingy in the corner??? I love that guy!!! Is this vintage? I forget his name…so cute!

That is an incredible idea for space saving! I love it! Maybe I could buy a wine rack an stick my sewing fabrics, felt in the cubby holes and it would double up as cute decor! Seriously, genius!

Another great idea! I have to tell you: I love the way you two write — casual, funny… ciggarette cartons! You slay me. Although, that could be a funny April 1 post. 😉

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! : ) I wish I had the space for something like that. My yarn just sits on one shelf of a bookshelf. I love yarn!

Jaime-I'm thinking of filling Rick's Wine "Cellar" with balls of yarn as a nice surprise for him. Do you think he will like it?

I am in love! Not only do I love wine, but I have a ridiculous stash of yarn. I just continue to buy more. My family keeps buying me Michael's gift cards…So I will blame them! I had thought about the hanging shoe rack with the boxes as well. I think it would look really cute and chic to have a nice light colored wooden pole on one wall of a room with those hanging racks going across it and tons of yarn stashed! I wish I could do this right now, but my husband would have a coniption. I have my yarn stashed in Sterilite 3-drawer plastic "dressers" at the moment.

What a fabulous idea and it looks spectacular too! If only I had some lovely wine racks like you – mine are the open wire type – but now you have me thinking!

Really terrific! I wish you gals could help me with my storage problem for jewelry! I have jewelry coming out my ears and no great place to keep all of my favorite things from my grandmother, etc. Any clever solutions?

Take a cool picture frame, cover a piece of cardboard ( the appropriate size) with velvet then a screen mesh. Put together with frame. Can hang ear rings directly, or add hooks for necklaces. Can hang on the wall or use a stand up frame for a dresser.

I think i am going to have to talk my husband into letting me turn my art corner into a "prettier" art corner lol. Right now it looks like a tornado came through! I love all of your ideas

Very cool, it's an awesome idea, so colorful and pretty! Only downfall I see is if you have curious cats, having the yarn that low could be an issue, and messy.

Please please please let me know where these wine racks are from? I’ve been wanting to do this with my yarn for ages but haven’t found the perfect rack. It’s rachaelpeck@hotmail.com

Having read this I believed it was rather informative.
I appreciate you spending some time and effort
to put this article together. I once again find
myself spending a lot of time both reading and leaving comments.
But so what, it was still worth it!

I love this idea, would love to know where you got the racks, I thinks I would need three to house my entire stash!!

Do you remember where you got those wine racks? I absolutely love this idea but I can’t find any good wine racks that are the correct size. The ones you have look perfect.

Absolutely adorable! How many wine racks would it take to stash 6-8 plastic tubs of yarn that are crammed full? What would I do with the half-used balls? How about when I buy 13 balls for a particular project?
Yes, its very cute, but obviously only meant as a decorative item, and as a storage spot for one’s entire stash. Yep, cats would love this!

Good if you do not have a true stash. My yarn would fill 18 of these if not more!

I was thinking the same thing! Also, I have a child young enough to play with one of those riding toys and if I had yarn on display like that she’d be pulling it out (and knotting it all) at every opportunity. It’s a super cute idea, just not very practical.

Oh, my God, you’re a genius. I’ve been trying to figure out where to put clutter in my living room, and it wasn’t until I read your article that I realized I was doing it all wrong. I’m going to make one this week just your way, thanks for sharing.
