Funny you mention Cape Cod! I am an East Coaster transplanted to Portland, OR. We are flying out in a few weeks to join my parents at their vacation place at the Cape, which we do almost very year! They are great memories since my 2 kids don't get much time with their grandparents normally, so that means there's lots of sitting back and relaxing with a cocktail for myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love to spend the summer at my in-laws in Maine! They have an amazing garden, lots of space – everything you need to really relax.

My favorite memory of all times is my husband holding our daughter (who was born at home) for the first time. She was staring at us all the time, and we didn't what to touch first: her little fingers, tiny hairy ears or little tooshie ๐Ÿ™‚

Our favorite summer vacation spot growing up was Island Park, Idaho. Just north of Rexburg and not far from West Yellowstone, Wyoming. My favorite memory was when I was 6 and my grandpa said he would give me $1 if I got up on waterskis. I swallowed alot of lake water that day, but eventually got up and skied all around the lake!

My favorite summer memories are from big family reunions on a lake in Vermont. After roasting hot dogs and S'mores over a fire and "surfing" on inner tubes in the lake, my cousins and I would catch fireflies and tell ghost stories.

It was just a perfect part of childhood. I'm taking my own daughter for the first time this summer!

My favorite summer vacation spot is anywhere but home. (I need to get out more) I imagine if I had been on a cruise to Alaska that would be my favorite. You want a funny story eh. Well I remember when I was around 5ish going on a road trip with my dad and two of my siblings. We stopped at a rest stop to use the potty. The potties in that rest stop were the biggest I had ever seen. I was terrified I was going to fall in. I didn't trust my sister to help me and I refused to go into the boys bathroom (their icky) so my dad could help me so my poor dad had to wait wait for the women to vacate the womens restroom and come in and help hold me on top so I wouldn't fall in. What a good dad.

I grew up in Indiana, and one year, my family decided to spend our summer vacation at the beach in North Carolina instead of at a campground. I think I was a newly minted teenager, which probably prompted the change. I LOVED it. And we went back almost every summer. I loved the small quaint towns, the little shops, the white beaches, clear water and big waves. We made a big sandcastle every year, and always chased the ghost crabs. In 2002, when I was in college, my mother called me very upset because my father had gotten a job transfer… to the coast of North Carolina. Now, whenever I go "home" to visit my family, I'm going on vacation too. We're going back next month for two weeks (we live in Austin now- and strategically planned this to get out of the heat). I can't wait!

we go to Gatlinburg every year with my mom's side of the family- grandparents, Aunts, Uncles… everyone. No particular favorite memory (though the year we went white water rafting was quite fun). We all joke about how we have to eat turkey sandwiches every day for 2 meals while we're there….

my favorite vacation as a kid was summers spent camping by the lake with my family and another family – we had so many adventures together.

as an adult, my favorite vacation was my honeymoon to mexico. we went on this hike that was supposed to take us to a beautiful waterfall…45 minutes later we came to a muddy river that was sort of flowing downhill…yep, that was the beautiful waterfall. we took our picture in front of it, and I'll never forget how hard we laughed.

I like to be in natural places – the woods or the beach.

We grew up spending out summers in the mountains outside of Raleigh and one of my earliest memories is of teaching my youngest cousin to wash her clothes in the creek. We would sit her in a milk crate (so she wouldn't wash away) and she would dip clothes into the water and then "scrub" them with a rock and then dip again. Those summers were idyllic.

San Diego… Well, really anywhere at the beach in Southern California, but San Diego is special since my husband and I were married there. We went to the beach and Sea World the day before the wedding, and, true to form, I got a bad sunburn. And of course, the neckline of my wedding dress was lower than the sunburn. So there's a red ring around my neck in all the pictures…

As a kid we used to go away in a converted bus and camp in the Coromandel (New Zealand) with a few other families.

But my best ever holiday would have to be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – I was an exchange student in Paraguay at the time and my host Mum took my friend and I with her to stay with friends there. It was both beautiful and shocking at the same time but a perfect experience and even now I find myself recommending people put Rio on their Bucket List!

My favorite childhood vacation spot was Topsail Beach, NC. As a child I would spend hours and hours just walking the beach looking in the crushed shell wash-up for sharks teeth and sea glass. There's a little island you can take a boat to called Lee Island but we renamed it Shell Island because the whole interior of the island is a crater filled with huge shells that have washed up in big storms. the water around the island was shallow enough that you had to jump off of the boat into the water during high tide and walk through the water to the beach and couldn't be picked up until the tide came back in that evening. It was SO COOL!

Maybe next summer we'll be taking a road trip to Disneyland, which is what my family did when I was little. One year, we went with my mom's sister, her husband and 4 kids aged 2,4,6 and 8 (I was 9 and my brother was 13). They were visiting us from Hong Kong that summer. We piled into our Cadillac El Dorado (4 people in front, 6 people in back…no carseats in the 80s!). They wanted to stop at every fast food place we passed and being a good host, my dad stopped at every one. We ended up losing our hotel reservations because our usually 8 hour trip took 12 hours. We had to stay at the creepiest motel ever! The door didn't even lock and we didn't sleep a wink. But it was FUN, for the kids at least…now that I'm a parent I can imagine how worried our parents were!

My favorite place to "summer" is Up North in Michigan. I know Up North probably doesn't mean much to those not in Michigan, and even here the definition depends on who you ask. To me it is anywhere north of the Zilwaukee bridge. Some of my favorite cities are Peteosky, Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Traverse City. There are hundreds of little lake towns. Give me a cabin on a lake and I am a happy girl.

Well I "summer" in Phoenix, AZ cause I live here. My friend from Utah likens the heat to "walking into a blowdryer that is on the high heat setting"…but as kids my parents would take us to CA…EVERY year! And every time our car would break down on the way home…EVERY time! So where am I taking my daughter this summer now that I am a mom?….to CA of course! Disneyland to be exact…so hopefully our car won't break down…:)

Even though I've lived in Massachusetts just about my whole life, we always traveled north in the summer. My favorite spot was and still is Lake Winnipesaukee. We met so many great friends and spent hours (8-10) swimming, floating, boating (and partying, causing a ruckus once we reached those teen years). Good times!

My childhood summer vacation memories are largely from this small beach resort town 6 hours away from my grandparent's house. Our entire family, which would include my grandparents, my parents, my cousins, aunts and uncles, and sometimes our neighbours and their kids, would go there every summer since I was 2 until I was 14. I learned how to swim in the ocean and would always imagine that I was a mermaid whenever I was in the ocean, I loved it. We would build sand castles, dug tunnels, and we even dug trap holes (these are small holes, just big enough for you to fit one of your feet)in the sand and camouflage it using tree branches and wait behind trees and see if anyone would step into the hole (no one ever did) – we were naughty children… Our cottage also had a huge vegetable garden in the back, and my cousin and i would go with the other kids to pick out fresh veggies with the cook that would be used for dinner that night.

my fave summer vacation was going to bonnaroo 2 years ago with my hubs. We woke up in our tent around 7:30 every day because it was just too hot to sleep any later, than proceeded to drink PBR from the cooler until 1-2 in the afternoon when the shows would start. That was the only time in my life it will be acceptable for me to drink that much in the mornings- pbr no less. Also the only time it wias acceptable to not shower for 4 days.

My favorite summer memories all take place in Oklahoma because that's where my grandparents and cousins were. One of the funniest times was when one of us cousins got gum on the couch. My grandpa would NOT be happy about this so we tried everything to get it off. We used ice to no avail. In the end, we resorted (based on Grandma's recommendation) to scraping it off with a knife. I'm sure you can guess how that went. We flipped the couch cushion over and no one was the wiser. We'd go back year after year and laugh about the cushion and our many other shenanigans.

Nothing like visiting friends and staying with our family on Cedar Creek Lake over the 4th of July weekend to watch fireworks, eat some bbq and float in the lake! I love to summer in Arizona. I know, that's kind of along the lines of summering in Dallas, but it's dry heat! Anyway, the funniest memory was when my best friend came along with my family and she saved me from a chicken. Not a live chicken. She and I decided to order room service instead of going to dinner with my mom and dad. I had the chicken, and she made me laugh while eating it, and it got lodged in my throat. I started turning blue and she apparently didn't know the Heimlich (sp?) maneuver, so she grabbed me by the feet, held me upside down and shook me until the chicken dislodged. Not funny at the time, but hysterical now! I would love to have this book, and the drawing is on my dad's birthday! I'm sure he wants me to win, you know, to celebrate his birthday and me not being killed by a chicken.

There are longhorn, buffalo, elk, prairie dogs, turkeys, and deer. The deer come right in your campground to eat and watch you. It's great.

Cool book!

My favorite summer vacation was a road trip my family took when I was about 7. We drove cross-country, from TN to WA to visit my uncle, aunt and cousins. The entire trip was 3 weeks and included camping in Yellowstone, snowball fights on Mt. Rainer in the middle of summer, and wading in Lake Michigan. Awesome memories!

We're from MS and my favorite vacation spot is the beach – love the smell, relaxation, sun, snowcones, sea food…

I can't think of any funny memories but my husband has a great one – when he was little, his family was driving to Disney World in FL and their car broke down on the highway, about 8 hours away from home and still several hours from Disney World. Now this was way before cell phones, but 2 families from our church just happened to drive by them and stop to help! James, his 2 sisters, and his parents piled up with our friends and headed to Disney World! Nothing can stop a Disney World trip!!

Our favorite summer vacation spot is New York, and not the city. My parents live out that way. We went to Darien Lake this summer while we were out that way and my step dad took the kids around for a fantastic day of fun rides and he won them some carnival prizes while my Hubby and I got to have a little time to ourselves to ride all the crazy rides we can get on. Then we all met up for our meals and when the day was starting to finish we got to watch our 4 yr old riding a mini roller coaster, throwing her arms in the air and screaming. There weren't many kids there so they let her go on it for about a 1/2 hour. Then the rain came and we went back home. This last vacation was especially special because my husband just started med school, so we barely get to see him.

My favorite vacation destination is Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands–my husband and I honeymooned there six summers ago and it was heavenly!! My favorite vacation memory was when I flew up to Boston to visit my twin sister three summers ago. I stepped off the plane and we boarded the subway…we know each other insanely well so I knew I couldn't hide my news, but I didn't want her to guess first, so I said, "um, I'm pregnant!" to which she replied, "no way! I am too!" That was the start of a fabulous vacation together, dreaming about the little cousins in future years, wandering around the little towns of Martha's Vineyard and in and out of quaint Cambridge and old Boston shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful time together and I will always look back on that vacation with a smile!

My family's favorite summer vacation spot is actually in Ireland! We took the three kids and I was pregnant with #4 at the time to Ireland in 2007 and had a wonderful time visiting family, seeing the lovely countryside and just hanging out. We are a crafting/performing family and do a lot of traveling. One summer my husband, 3 daughters and I traveled from North Carolina to Standing Buffalo (indian reservation) in Saskatchuwan, Canada for a show and to visit friends and family. Well, I made sure we took a pic of every state sign we passed and stop at every free attraction available right off the highway. Although we were having a grand ole time, our car was feeling otherwise.
With only an eighth of a tank of gas and traveling through rural North Dakota, we knew we needed gas as soon as possible. Spotting a gas station from the highway, we took the next exit. My husband put it in park, we all unbuckled…then our car became POSSESSED. The automatic locks began to lock and unlock rapidly on their own. We all tried to open our doors but the car wouldn't have it. My husband cranked the car back up but it was no use. Our girls were crying, my husband was furious and I sat quietly thinking of a plan. "Got it!" I thought.
I quieted the girls and gently rubbed my husband's arm to calm him. With the car silent except for the sounds of locking and unlocking, I began to count softly…
"one" clunk,clack
"two" clunk,clack
"THHRREEEE!!" clunk,…..
Timed just right, door swung open, I freed us from the grasp of the fed up Mercury. Mommy was the hero that day.
In the end, it turned out to be a faulty fuse but that will be a story we will look back on and laugh when we're old and gray. ๐Ÿ™‚

My very favorite vacation ever was when we flew out west then did a little drive around. I jumped off a really high cliff into a pond and bruised my arms to heck. Then, went hiking, and my dad (who is allergic to bees) got stung, and so did my brother and I, so we went to the ER. My face swelled up huge from the stings. Despite looking like a circus freak, it really was super fun.

My funniest is also illegal, so I am hoping since it happened over 25 years ago the Feds won't show up at our door.
We rented a house on Sanibel Island and on the flight down my 14 year old step brother took the life jacket from under his seat on the plane.
Our house had a pool in the backyard and he went to the bottom of the deep end, pulled both cords and came out of the pool like a rocket. He was scared to death and we laughed our heads off.
Please don't try this at home–someone might need that life jacket!!

My fav summer memory is very fresh in my mind as it happened this past weekend. My hubby's job doesn't enable him to be home all the time, car business hours. He was on vacation or I should say staycation this past week. We don't really have a lot of extra cash to work with, but he wanted to do something different for us. He ordered pizza (we ate in front of tv) and rented movies and we had a family movie night. There was a movie for everyone (our children are 13, 5 &3). I'm sure you can imagine how difficult that can be! LOL Anyway, the children as well as my hubby and I had an awesome time.

When I was about 7 years old we lived in Fort Ord Ca. Near Monterey. My grandmother had come for a visit and my parents, sister, brother and I along with granny, went camping. It was the first time I went camping. I learned how to fish and failed. I remember how cold it was is the morning, and my dad taught me how to pee in the "wild". Being a very curious little girl I thought that was fun.
I look over old pictures of that visit and remember all the fun stuff I learned to do. Hook a worm, pee in a bush, touch my first slimy fish, and eat smores. This is my first memory of a summer vacation.

My favorite summer memory is when I met my husband. It was 7 years ago this August. I went to Costa Rica by myself to learn how to surf better. While there, I stayed at little surf camp/hotel. My husband, Peter, is friends with owner, and has worked at the hotel every summer of his teenage and college years, in order to spend summer surfing. Peter was a friend, of a friend, of friend that told me that he was going to be in Costa Rica while I was there and to look him up.

So I roll up to the surf camp, walk up to the front desk and ask if Peter is around. The front desk girl kinda looks at me funny, and says "Old Man Pete?" Thinking that was his Costa Rican nick name or something, since I had never met him before, I say "sure, Old Man Pete." Turns out, Old Man Pete, was a retired porn star from Fort Lauderdale and not my Peter, my future husband. Old Man Pete, directs me to my Peter and the rest is history. I thought Peter would just be a hot summer vacation fling, but he turned out to be my husband and the father of my child! Thank God for porn stars.

Most memorable summer vacation. My husband & I with our 3 year old went to Fl with my Brother and his wife. It was hot and I had never been will lets just say I was in the sun for 20mins which I did get burn bad and being 7mos pregant not fun. We were staying at a resort in Jacksonville where they sold out of rooms where we had our res. at needless to say we had to share a room with my brother and his wife so the guys put the mattress on the floor and getting ready for bed everyone figured I would get the softer of beds will not sister in law wanted mattress not boxsprings and she was very verbal about it even though I had 2nd degree sunburn and chill nope instead of listening to her we took the box springs well the next thing I new was I was really freezing she had turned the air up to the coldest spot because she was hot. I wanted to go over and slap her but instead of that we cut the vacation short with them and I wouldnt even spend the night when we got to their house to drop them off it was late and we drove to the next town spent the night there and off to Grand Ole Opry which we had a blast other than the sun hurt but I didnt have to here all the "stupid" things that was wrong with the place as the sister in law like to gone on about.. They are no longer together which I was ok with that she was a strange one that one was. That part of that vacation will always be a reminder to me just watch who you vaction with. We had stayed at their house for a couple of days and that should have been a warning. But I loved seeing my brother he just got back from overseas in Germany where he and married her and they both were in the Army at the time. Sorry if it was a little long I could really cut it much more just so you would have an idea. Thank you for the chance at the book. I love all her fabric lines.

I love to summer anywhere as long as I'm camping! Every summer growing up, my family would always go camping, and we never went to the same place twice. It was always an adventure, finding new fishing spots, hiking trails, and what-nots.
I have soo many hilarious stories from our camping adventures, like, there was one time when my dad was trying to light our campfire with one of those extra long lighters, and it decided it was going to blow up in his hands, so he threw it at my mom. My mom has yet to let him live THAT one down.
Or, the time where we were attacked my raccoons during the middle of the night. Our tent was surrounded by this family of raccoons, and they were scratching at our tent. What made it worse was that they were back lit by the fires from the surrounding campers, so their shadows were HUGE! hahaha!
