Double Gauze Dress

So I sewed this dress for Miss S with every intention of sharing with you a detailed tutorial and a free downloadable pattern.  However, as I was sewing it I came across a few hurdles and thought up some fixes to make a better/simpler project. So I’m pondering working on a new pattern and step-by-step DIY that will allow you to make a similar dress.

But in the meantime, I wanted to show you the final product mostly because this fabric is unbelievably gorgeous and I want you all to get some.  It’s a double gauze and so flowy, soft, and cozy.  There are a bunch of beautiful double gauze fabrics also by Kokka still available at Fabricworm, check them out here.

If you’d like me to take another stab at creating a pattern for this dress and sharing a tutorial with you, let me know in the comments.  If you like it, I’ll get to work on it now.
P.S. by “get to work”, I mean scribble a horrible picture and send it to Jacinda to do the actual pattern drafting, HA.

UPDATE: Here’s the (revised) pattern: Prudent Baby Snap Wrap Dress

That is a really cute dress! I could definitely add it to my list of projects that I'll get to some day. Wonder if laundry would stop long enough for me to make this?

that's an adorable little dress, i'd LOVE to see a pattern for it! mind you though, i don't have any kids yet but i am hoarding fabric and have a special folder on my computer and a shelf in the sewing room just for cute baby girl sewing patterns (heather ross' peach unicorns and oliver + s playdate dress are the most recent additions) for my future daughter(s) – my fiance thinks i'm crazy (i may very well am, but i don't care, cute things need to be hoarded!!), but hey, he's the one who's named all our (future) kids!

What a great dress! Please do make the pattern and tutorial–I have learned so much from your site. I made a bunch of dresses and diaper covers (from your tutorials) as presents for my niece-to-be and you wouldn't believe the oohs and aahs from the other ladies at the baby shower. It was a great moment and really all because you cared to share–thank you!

Gorgeous dress! I would also appreciate a pattern/tutorial/tips on how to make a pattern if you don't have lots of other priorities. Thanks!

I love it and would love a tutorial! The only thing i would change is the neckline. The triangular neckline seems a bit mature to me for some reason.

Please do share the pattern for this dress. I just picked up sewing when my little girl was born and free patterns and tutorials have been my best help. I've made your pillowcase dress, diaper covers, peasant top, and just recently, your snappy toddler top to fit my 4 month old. Love love your blog and keep the tutorials coming!

Absolutely you should make this again & show us how! It's stinking adorable…was the double gauze nasty to sew? I imagine it to be a booger, so I've never entertained the idea of using it.

Egad! Your dress designs are so cute that I'm seriously considering forcing my son to wear dresses just so I have an excuse to make them ๐Ÿ™‚ I would totally take a stab at this dress but if your new idea is simpler and similar, the lazy part of me would definitely lean that way ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes please!!

I'd love if you took the time to make us the pattern ๐Ÿ™‚

My daughter is 8 weeks old and i'm loving making her all the dresses i can!…the don't always turn out perfect, but cute anyways!

Plus double gauze fabric is the greatest….little Holly is sleeping right beside me wearing a pair of baby shoes i made for her using the far far away snails double gauze.

I won't beg you for a pattern but I will say that this would look AMAZING over jeans with a little sweater for Fall. That's it. No begging. But if you want little Clare to look amazing for school (or your book-tour visit in November, Eeeeeee!!) you might want to consider it. No pressure.

This dress is gorgeous!! The pattern is adorable and that fabric is incredible. I'm not much of a sewer but my Mom & sister sew. I'm sure I could get one of them to make one for my daughter!

So cute! I am not a big sewer. Hell, I don't own a sewing machine (yet), but this dress and every other cute pattern I've seen on this sight has made me decide that soon I will own a sewing machine and use it often!!

Please, please, please make a tutorial for that beautiful dress. My little sweetie needs as much girly cuteness as possible with 2 brothers around.

I love this dress. I am just learning to sew so I would love the updated pattern. Through your website, I have fallen in love with Fabricworm. I want to buy everything, but because I am not good at sewing yet, alas, a bulk purchase will have to wait. (insert sigh)

This kind of stuff makes me want to have a little girl so that I can sew for her. I'm afraid that if I make clothes for my friends with girls they would think I was just too weird.

Absolutely get to work on that pattern! I just got a sewing machine and would loooove to make this for my niece for her birthday!

yes please, esp if it doesn't involve a zipper! i have a similar pattern but it has a zipper and it's for heavier material, so the gauze would be nice.

Please, please, please, please… make this into a pattern for us! My two little girls would love to wear a dress like this – plus I'd have all winter to make it for them if you do it soon (it might actually get done)! Thank you!!

This is the perfect cut for a little girl. My girls are bothered by clothes that are too snug around their waists. With this they can let their pot bellies hang out. lol
