You already know we are fans of America’s Test Kitchen from my tour post last month, so when they sent us a copy of The America’s Test Kitchen Healthy Family Cookbook and asked us if we would like to give one away to a lucky Prudent Baby Reader, you know we were like… um, yes please! But first we had to test out some recipes and also curl up with it in bed and read it from cover to cover. Does anyone else do that? I read cookbooks like novels. Weird. So Jaime did the cooking and I did the curling.

Some scrumptious sounding recipes using healthier grains like Barley, Couscous, Bulgur, Quinoa and Farro. This will be where I start… maybe the Farro Risotto with Arugula, Lemon and Parmesan! Sounds delish!

This cheese bread will be on a Fall menu with soup, for sure!
And for us mom-types, a Kid Friendly section. Usually, I would scoff at such recipes saying… “My kids eat whatever I put on the table THANKYOUVERYMUCH” but, um, I want to eat these recipes.
Plus a Whole-Wheat Pizza Dough recipe which I can respect for it’s half-whole-wheat-ness. A little bit healthier but still tasty? Nice. Quinn took a look with her binoculars and approved of the Vegetarian Entrees section.

I too curl up with cookbooks and read them cover to cover. I think it helps coming up with something for dinner on those nights when spontaneity is all you've got.
Our family generally eats semi-healthy. When I cook it is healthy – when we go out to eat it is queso and fajitas!

We TRY to be healthy in our house, but with a 9 year old picky eater, sometimes I don't win. We're working on it though – we do mostly home cooked, and if we do go convenience, I try to choose things with some sort of redeeming value.

I usually try to figure out what our meals will be with the vegetables decided first, then from there everything else.
I love the ATK Family Cookbook- it's like the Betty Crocker cookbook for our generation! I use it for everything- I'm currently baking my way through the bread section. We eat pretty- meh actually. Having 3 kids 5 and under doesn't bode well for culinary adventures, you know? But I love cookbooks, too! And I totally curl up with my Cook's magazines. Part of me is still living the life of a foodie- even if we are eating quasadillas for dinner! : )
I make most of the meals for my small family of two. I've been trying to step away from using canned ingredients, too. Are my recipes healthy? No, not really. I focus on thick stews, especially in the cold, cold winter.
I often pick up one of my cookbooks to browse through to pass time.
We try to eat healthy, but nothing uber healthy. We focus more on portion control and moderation. But, we definitely have frozen pizza or nugget nights for sure. We're human, after all!

I love America's Test Kitchen show, I'll be this cook book is full of great recipes. Our family generally eats a pretty healthy menu, so we are always on the look out for great additions to our list of meals.

We always joke about Cooks being a blessing and a curse… everything always turns out beautifully but there are 37 steps to get there and there's always a "meanwhile…" step that I inevitably miss.
I have enjoyed reading ATK cookbooks in the past, but it seems the tastiest way to make recipes is never very healthy, so I'd be very interested to see how they changed up recipes for this version!

Oh man, am I going to make you feel good about your menu style! It's just my husband and me, and we eat out almost every night. Yuck. We both would rather eat home-cooked meals, but we have really busy evenings and no time to cook! This cookbook would surely motivate us, right? 😉
OH. EM. GEE. I'm putting all my good karma and happy thoughts into this giveaway this week! I have the regular ATK book and it's AMAZING. I hate cooking in general and am generally not very good at it, but that book makes me look and feel good. But it does encourage some not so healthy habits (ahem the cream biscuits ahem) We eat OK in our house – not big on juice or soda or highly processed stuff, but our routine is pretty boring – a starch a veggie and a meat. I would like to bring in more variety and different ways of combining things to make it a little more exciting, esp for the little guys. I'll be back to post every day! Thanks for the opportunity 🙂
What a great looking cookbook! Fingers crossed that I am the winner!
I have big plans to cook healthy for my family- no processed foods, everything from scratch, blah blah blah. But we are in the midst of soccer season which means scrambling for dinner 5 nights a week. We don't eat out but sometimes it's just cold cereal for dinner. I think this cookbook would really help me out!
We've almost completely eliminated processed food, at least from our meals now. We still do some chips and processed snacks sometimes, but I'm working on baking more too. I make a lot of chicken/rice/vegetable dishes and a lot of chinese food too. We get an organic produce delivery every two weeks, so our specific meals are generally dictated by what we get in that 🙂
Our menu style is a little eclectic. Sometimes healthy, some times whatever is convenient wins out over healthy. I find it helps if I plan and menu in advance. And of course remember to thaw any frozen ingredients!

The babe eats really healthy…mom and dad not too much, unless you count veggie frozen pizza as healthy! I kinda do!
My 4 major food groups are: frozen, canned, takeout, and coffee. So yeah, there's some room for improvement.
We are a mixed bag but overall pretty healthy. My husband can whip sauces up from scratch and cooks really good salmon & halibut, among other things. I'm one of those recipe lovers & have tons of them store away. I modify them as time goes on.

i do most of the cooking at our house. we love standard american food with a few ethnic recipes making their way into the roster. i have a list of my top 40 go-to meals on my blog: yellowbowlbakery.blogspot. i try to make it healthy, but we don't use 'light' or 'reduced fat' ANYTHING. give me real butter and sour cream!
I love America's Test Kitchen cookbooks, too! And, yes, I also read them like novels when I first get them. As to healthy eating, we try to focus first on eating non-processed (ie, fresh not canned or frozen) food and then just do the best we can after that. It's a challenge(time and energy-wise) for sure!
I love to read cookbooks! I'd say our family is a mix of healthy and fast and easy. So some nights might be a great chicken stir fry and the next night we're eating PB sandwiches….
We eat salads during the week, walk/run every week day with the dogs, and then eat pretty much whatever we want on the weekends. Seems to work for us!
At our house we are trying to stay away from "pre-prepared" products even bisquick. We are trying to use more whole wheat pasta and flour. Diabetis runs in our family, so healthy cooking is very important to us.

I read cookbooks like novels too… and my husband thinks I'm insane.
Speaking of the husband, I have the pickiest in the world. If he can't get it on the McDonalds menu, he doesn't want to even try it. With the exception of pepperoni pizza. Anyhow, it's pretty sad… but we eat fried foods and pizza… and every once in a while I try to sneak in a veggie, but I am often foiled. Sigh.
This cook book sounds like it's sneaky healthy though… i can get into sneaky healthy.
I am lucky because my 5 & 3 year olds are pretty good eaters. Our diets consist mainly of fruits & veggies and low-fat meat. One down fall, I love to bake, though I have been looking for healthier versions for baking such as whole wheat flour, substitute yogurt, applesauce, coconut oil, etc.
We make a lot of healthy dishes with food from our farm share. But we definitely get stuck in ruts where we seem to be getting take-out more often than not. I'm always looking for good recipes for my family.
I try to feed my family healthy meals as often as I can't but some nights I am sick of fighting about food we all eat some delicous junky food for dinner.

I'd love this book. We usually eat pretty healthy, but I'm at the end of a fourth pregnancy and I've been slacking off on the cooking these days! I'd love something to get me back on track (probably after the baby!)
I LOVE this show. I have one of their other cookbooks too. We plan out our menu, main dish sides & bread for 3-4 weeks at a time. This helps with grocery bills and healthy meal planning.

I would love this cookbook. I am a vegetarian, but my hubby and 2 year old are not, cooking for them and for me usually turns into two complete meals, or if I cook something 'healthy' my hubby picks out some frozen thing he bought to nuke instead…
I try to make healthy foods, have a few good recipes from Cooking Light, but we could always use more help! One huge healthy thing, really done more due to my preference, is using ground turkey breast instead of ground beef. 🙂 Much more lean!

We are all over the map but some days healthy other days far from it. Always way too much bread and cheese but I also stay away from anything with ingredients I don't recognize. We could definately be doing a better job 🙂
Since moved – we are trying a lot harder to eat at home more. We are hoping to expand our family in the next year and want to have better eating habits before a baby so that we aren't introducing (another) new thing in our lives! Next spring we are also hoping to start a small veggie garden! This cook book looks great!

We have a fairly good repertoire of healthy meals but are always looking for more to add to the mix – especially ones that make vegetables a little more palatable to the kiddos.
Another fabulous prize! We tend to eat quite healthy and really try to have a meal plan for each week. Maybe we're a little too planned out sometimes (crockpot Tuesdays!), but it works for us and our busy lifestyle.
What a fabulous book. I have been trying so hard to make our family eating style healthier. We tend to eat a lot of pasta (thanks to my Italian significant other)but only a dismal number of green things. It would be great to learn the basics so that I can more easily create health meals at home. I have to admit that this week breakfast has been cupcakes for everyone. Oh dear!
I have the best of intentions, I really do. But does my family always eat healthy? No! Because eating healthy takes lots and lots of planning. And sometimes the amount of planning sends me into a panic attack, and next thing I know I'm eating lemon-chocolate cookies from Trader Joe's. (No idea why those are coming to mind…) But I do try, and when I have the time to plan out meals and make a grocery list, it works well and makes me happy. So I'd love to win!
I love ATK and could use another healthy cookbook in my arsenal – ours are getting tiresome. We eat healthily as often as possible – my husband counts calories, though, so we're a little more anal about it when he eats with us. When it's just the baby and me, I shoot for healthy, natural ingredients but don't worry about the numbers. I do my best to make a main dish that has vegetables in it, since we're not very good at eating veggie sides. (Well, except the baby, she'll happily eat plain veggies – whose child is she?)

We eat fairly healthy in our home. The more natural the better. I have my own wheat grinder to make homemade breads and rolls. The kids love homemade fruit roll ups and applesauce. We plant a garden every year which is my way of helping my kids to SEE where the food comes from!
But, every Mom could use some new recipes in her book to keep the kids from sticking their noses up at dinner. So, I'd love to win and maybe the kids will give me some thumbs up when it comes to dinner time!

Test Kitchen cookbooks are the best. I love how they incorporate all the tips along the way to make your meal turn out better. As for our family's menu style, it is usually pretty quick and easy since we're just a little family of two. A lot of meat dishes cooked on the stovetop. A little tip, if your family is small and you eat a lot of meat, invest in a Foodsaver. It lets our little family of two save on bargain ground beef, pork chops, family packs of chicken, etc. Then we just seal the leftover meat up and freeze.
Well, my husband is the healthy one. Mr. Hard Boiled eggs, with oatmeal and plain Chicken and Broccoli. I eat fairly well, but I've got a HUGE soft spot for things like Mac and Cheese and French Fries and Cheese. YUM. Since finding out we're expecting, I've been attempting to eat better on a more consistent basis. However, if you knew what I had to eat last night for dinner, you wouldn't think I was on the healthy road to anything. OK, I had KFC. I couldn't help it. This book sounds wonderful. There's nothing better than TASTY food – and if it's healthy, even better 🙂
About a year and half ago I started menu planning once a week and it has changed my life. I'm not gonna lie, though–sometimes I am really struggling to come up with yummy new ideas for the menu before I go to the grocery store for the week. This book looks like it is full of awesome recipes…can't wait to check it out.

High fiber, baby. Its all about the fiber. Seriously we have good and bad days around here. Most days are fairly healthy, but others we slack seriously.
We eat heathfully most of the time. But every once in a while, we've got to eat fried chicken.
My style is that I don't have a style. I try to cook a few nights a week and I try to cook healthy food and I try to eat before 11pm!
I'd say we're a good mix of healthy meals and not-so-healthy meals. I love to cook with fresh veggies but sometimes a frozen pizza ain't that bad either. 🙂
We cook practically everyday but some days everything is crazy and we end up getting fast food.
We aspire to be healthy and organized but usually don't make it! I'm either awesome- a week of tasty meals or nothing- a week of cereal and PB sandwiches. It's ok though because my daughter still eats baby food (I make homemade, that counts for something right?) and breastmilk so I'm only screwing up my husband and I so far. 😉
I absolutely love their cookbooks, but only own the desserts one. This would be a great addition to our family! Right now it's just my husband and I and sadly we're eating horribly these days, think frozen foods…hot pockets, eggos, mac and cheese. I'm pregnant and really who wants to cook when it all sounds gross? This sounds and looks so good and with baby on the way really want to start cooking better for my family!
We LOVE America's Test Kitchen! We try to eat healthy, but are pregnant with our first kiddo and I, um, just learned that I gained a fair bit more weight than I was supposed to last month – whoops! This would be a great tool to help us eat healthier and stay on track with my weight for the remainder of the pregnancy (and beyond!).
Our family (my husband and me) have made a conscious decision to eat healthy. Over course, we have our weaknesses (Box Mac and Cheese) but overall we try to cook better meals for us. I have America's Test Kitchen Baking book, which I love. This would be a great addition to our healthy dinners.

I love America's Test Kitchen because who really wants to "test" the recipes themselves. After one dismal failure, my kids WILL NOT give the same recipe a second chance anytime in the foreseeable future. Who would? Our family eats pretty well, most of the time. I try to plan a weekly menu, shop once a week, and keep track of it all to refer back to later when it feels like we're in a rut eating the same things over & over again. The worst part is getting the kids on board with our food choices & preferences. Alas, nothing new there. 🙂
I love to read cookbooks too! I guess it makes me think I'm a great cook lol, sadly this year with kids starting school and new baby, my dinner routines are SLACKING. Pancakes with chocolate chips are a staple dinner in our house these days…agghh. We could use some ideas for REAL quick healthier meals 🙂

I watch their show on PBS like EVERYDAY. I am addicted to America's Test Kitchen and to see a healthy cookbook from them is so exciting! I would make every recipe I think from it. My husband and I eat pretty healthy but need new dishes to add to our repertoire.

I LOVE ATK! All of my best recipes come from them. Right now my family is not eating very healthy (lots of takeout) due to 1st trimester exhaustion and nasties on my part. But I have hopes that we will get back to our routine of homemade delicious foods soon (also not-so-healthy, but tasty!).
As the kids have grown up we're eating lots more veggies and less bacon, sausage and red meat. I mix it up by roasting or steaming (with maggi sauce for flavor) them, or with cream sauces, or with greek or provence seasoning (wonderful on broccoli roasted in olive oil) …and it is not uncommon for supper to be entirely veggies.
I'm always looking for new tasty recipes! That bread is making me drool.
I love America's Test Kitchen! I also love the binder & tab format of this cookbook…reminds me of my dear ol' friend, the Better Homes & Gardens cook book (aka "the BHG" in my house). We eat pretty healthy, thanks to the CSA membership this year, but we are all carb addicts. Crackers & "cheeps" are our weakness, all three.
We do what we can to eat healthy. This past year we gave up canned foods and try to eat fresh veggies more. We have a super picky 4 year old so that presents its own challenges! I would love to cook my way through this book…i would read it day afer day!

I need this book! I seriously don't love to cook, I am just not inspired. If I can get inspired I know I will want to do it. I make pretty heathy-ish meals usually always some protein,whole grain or carb and veggies of some sort even if it is organic frozen broccoli. Typical meal for us is chicken, broccoli and maybe Quinoa or brown rice..
We eat a lot of meat, cause my children are into being carnivores. i wish they would eat more beans, but they like edamame. i have one who likes raw tomatoes but not tomato sauce — what is up with that??? we eat lots of fish too.
We're kinda healthy, but since I'm gone 3 nights a week, there's lots of crockpotting going on. Love that thing. We do eat tons of fresh cut veggies and I like sticking it on the table while the kids are watching TV. Mindless tv watching + mindless broccoli munching works for me. 🙂
I love America's Test Kitchen! The big people in our house eat ok, however my 17 month old eats tofu nuggets almost every night! We always put our food on his tray, which he promptly throws off 🙂 Maybe this book would help 🙂

Oh, our meals are hit and miss. We want to cook and eat healthy and I would say that 4 out of the 7 days in a week are healthy dinners. We definately need more veggies mixed in!

We're vegetarians, and we eat pretty darn healthy. Lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies, with a fair amount of beans and grains thrown in. My kids are both great eaters,… the older one is particularly adventurous and will try and pretty much like anything(umm, as long as it does not have meat in it.)

Oh YUM!! I absolutely love cookbooks. I am always on the lookout for a fabulous recipe. I try to cook healthy meals (sneaking veggies and whole wheat into the meals….I usually have to disguise it so the kids will eat it), but I don't always have time to cook the healthier food and just toss in the bag of pasta instead of rolling out the whole wheat pasta.

OMG…I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDD this seriously so BAD. I hate veggies, I am intimidated by the veggie section at the grocery store…they mock me. Anyway, my 16-month old daughter now refuses to eat any veggie I sadly attempt to give her, so I need to discover the secrets of healthy eating…but that's also yummy! We have the same small, pathetic handful of meals on constant rotation in our house – and I hate it. I need help. PLEASE help me & give me this awesome cookbook! Thanks!!

We eat healthy for the most part but sometimes when we don't have a lot of time it's hot dogs and mac and cheese.
New Best Recipe and Quick Recipe cookbooks from Cook's Illustrated are my go-to cookbooks, but I would love to add this to my collection!
I would say we are in the middle of eating healthy and being embarrassed about how we eat. Mostly because my husband insists on on buying boxed and packaged foods that is loaded with sodium. Are all men like this?
Let me give you an example. I worked this evening and when I get home, I asked him what he fed our almost 2 year old. He response, " I cooked canned corn and Ramen Noodles for us tonight." At least he cooked something. 🙂
Honestly the thought of looking a cookbook right now is less than appealing, while I'm suffering from morning sickness. But, I do love America's Test Kitchen. And I'm sure I would love this book too…in a few more weeks.
I've had the wierdest diet for the past few months. Since my husband is away for 3 weeks at a time working, I don't feel like making whole meals for me and my 17 month old who pretty much will only eat American cheese, so we eat really random meals, like cereal, tator tots, and applesauce.

oh well…mmmm we do well the first few days but since I don't have a cook book I have to research on the web and so at times it's great heathy eating at times it's not were hispanic so you know how that is lard lard lard…this book from what I've read looks like it's just what I need to stick to a healthy life style of cooking =)

I'm the "chef" of the family and I love to make sure my kids eat healthy! Lots of fruit and vegetable every meal! Once in a while, I let them indulge and eat whatever they want. Otherwise, there's no fun in life! 😛
I love this site: onceamonthmom.com I can't really use the recipes since we are vegetarian (since I was 3 and since my hubby started dating me) but it is great inspiration and a helpful way to look at how we eat/buy food/etc.
I love America's Test Kitchen. Our family is very meat and potatoes driven so we could always use a more healthy cookbook. I also love curling up and reading cookbooks. But unfortunately, I usually read more than I cook!

Mmmm I love zucchini bread! I feel so guilty about our eating habits…mostly junk. I cook maybe once or twice a week. I'd love to try healthy recipes and cook more often during the week.
I would say we eat healthy meals about 85% of the time, which is pretty good! But sometimes you just have to splurge and go for it!!
I LOVE anything that comes from America's Test Kitchen. In fact, I would say that 80% of our meals are recipes from Cook's Country or another ATK source. I think I cook pretty healthily during the school year (I plan the weeks' meals in advance, watch a budget, etc.) but when summer hits–and my husband, a teacher, is home most of the time–every day is like a weekend, anything goes, and though we might eat lots of fresh fruit and summer produce throughout the day, evenings usually consist of something cheap, easy, on-the-go, fast, and generally unhealthy.
This cookbook looks amazing! I try to cook balanced meals with at least one if not two veggie meals a week. My hubby will try anything so I am very lucky!
We are on the healthy side…but since I got married my husband likes a lot more unhealthy things!!! I love finding recipes that he likes that are healthy also. This book looks like it has a ton of ideas!
We are vegetarians, well my children and I are and my husband is by association. I like to cook with my crock pot a LOT. It's easy and quick to prep, which is important since I have 3 kiddos under 3. This past week we were totally grubbing on some vegan split pea soup. Yummy, yummy!
I hardly get to cook so much because my husband is a dairy hand and doesn't get home till 8pm. He gets a warm meal at lunch and we have bread for supper. So, I only cook for myself, and sometimes it pretty hard to be motivated. Maybe a new cookbook is just what I need… Hmmmmm, yup, it is!
I'd love this cookbook! We eat a range of foods, but are generally pretty healthy. I try to do at least one vegetarian/vegan night a week. But we also enjoy a good bacon cheeseburger as well (which just happened to be lunch today :). A new cookbook would be awesome!
Lucky me, I cook and my family devours everything I cook. I prefer to prepare fresh meals each day with local or home grown veggies. We raise our own pork and rely on wild game for any red meat on our family's table. Growing our own fruits and berries has been a family tradition from the start. Kids love to help 'harvest' the berries. Adding Meatless Monday's to menus, using legumes and grains in more ways has added flavor and delicious meal choices. Cooking and eating Healthy Family meals is a goal, worthy of our efforts. Creating the daily meals for my family's health and enjoyment is rewarding for me.

I try to make healthy meals but if I don't make my shopping list in advance during the weekend, we end you eating out (way unhealthy) all week long.

Being family-less, I tend to make "lazy" be my governing factor when it comes to making meals. I must add that whenever anyone mentions zucchini bread, all I can think about is this quote from My Boys:
"What's that smell?"
–"Mrs. Fitzy made zucchini bread, zucchini muffins, and something called zucchini spread which is on the toll road because it smelled like a hot pond."
Not that Jamie's zucchini bread is anything other than delicious. 🙂
Sometimes I cook healthy and sometimes not. I'd love to own this one to help me get back to more healthy cooking. I love cookbooks and enjoy reading them as well as cooking from them. Bet I could find some great recipes to try in this one.

That cookbook looks amazing. I am like you I love reading cookbooks. They are always on loan at the library! I love it! My cooking style…hmmm…as homemade as I can make it. I love cooking from scratch. We do not eat a lot of processed foods and most everything is organic or locally grown. I try my best to get my picky eaters to eat veggies, but they are often hidden in the food because they woutright refuse to eat them if they see them!
Healthy? What's that! 🙂 We try to eat "healthy" but my family loves meat and butter and all that tasty stuff! 🙂 We need new recipes on our menu, it's so easy to get stuck to basically the same menu every week.

I have an obsession with cookbooks, so of course, this giveaway is really exciting to me. As far as how we eat, we TRY to be as healthy as possible and eat at home most of the time and cook simple from scratch meals. We do have a family of sweet teeth (?)(multiple members with a sweet tooth) and do give in to that more than I would like to admit to the world wide web. 🙂
I wish we were healthier eaters, but I like to tell myself that if it's homemade, it's better than eating out … ??? Makes me feel better anyway! I really try to eat healthy. I buy lots of fruits and veggies. And I made all my baby's food. But we still love to indulge in pizza and cupcakes, too!

Yes please! This book looks amazing! We try to keep things healthy in our home, but sometimes it's rough, you know? With two young kids to wrangle it's sometimes easier to just throw together some nachos for dinner, instead of making chicken soup from scratch or something. Gotta say, I love my crockpot for that reason, though. I've got a few standby crockpot favorites that are pretty healthful and don't take much prep. Anyway. I hope I win!

I would love a copy! I have a giant collection of healthier recipes. Some have been stunners. Others have been collosal failures. I've had good luck over the years with Cooking Light recipes. Eating Well magazine has some good stuff, and some very mediocre-tasting stuff. I feel like dessert or meals, anything I make myself out of pronounceable ingredients is better for our family of 4. And so far, at least, my preschooler eats just about whatever we eat, minus some persnickety days due to, well, being a preschooler.
We have a main dish, veggie, fruit and usually a starch of some sort (bread, pasta or potatoes they are allll delicious! we offer healty choices at meals and ask that everyone try a bite to show thanks to the chef. sometimes they like it. sometimes they don't. we do keep offering things they haven't liked in the past over again. my daughter liked baby lettuce with balsamic dressing after about the 20th try. you never know when they might change their mind!
Im in need of serious help! I have 3 guys ( ages 40,19 and 6) who are picky eaters and have sensory issues( nothing crunchy!!!!!) so I have a hard time cooking for all of us, and miking it healthy. i usually wind up making 2 meals, one for the guys and one for the girls, but I feel so much guilt that my guys aren't eating the things their bodies need! id love to win this cookbook!!
We have gone much healthier in my home. I am down 38 lbs this year due to mostly diet change! YAY me! I do however have a hard time finding recipes that are healthy and tasty. Many of my recipes that I try do not pass the husband/kid test, so they are never to be cooked again. I could definitely use this as I still have about another 20 lbs to go and running short on tasty, healthy meals.

We don't eat enough fruits and veggies – I am in desperate need fo some easy and yummy ideas to incorporate them into our diets! Great give away! Personally I KNOW we don't we enough fruits and veggies. I don't really know how to prepare them (except for salads) which the hubs claims "is what food eats."
We try to eat 'healthy' at our house, but the kids don't like their vegetables much (fresh fruit is no problem), so any recipes that can help (whole wheat pizza crust and that yummy looking zucchini bread) would be great. Actually, I have been looking for a really good zucchini bread and that one looks wonderful!

Our family menu style is quite schizophrenic. I try my best to do seasonal, organic and even local. Yet, we still find ourselves ordering delivery pizza and Chinese about once a week. I would love to say that we only eat healthy, fabulous food, but that's just not reality. Complicating things is the fact that I have one child who won't eat anything (only a little exaggeration there) and one child who will eat anything at all (no exaggeration there). Getting #1 son to eat veggies is a rock fight every time! So, we do the best we can!
I love America's Test Kitchen but don't make too many of their recipes because they're a bit unhealthy. My family menu style is varied. When we go to the grocery store or farmer's market, we cook fairly healthy with a lot of vegetables. But, when we run out (usually on weekends), we eat out or get take out–happens a little too often :(.

I have a few cookbooks, mostly just use my red plaid cookbook, but we are addicted to watching America's Test Kitchen. Even my 7-yr-old daughter likes to watch. And I have tried quite a few of their recipes. Love ATK deep dish apple pie.
I'm loving reading these comments. I'm getting some good ideas! We go back and forth — sometimes we're super healthy, and other times we'll have something completely unhealthy. We are trying to eat meals structured more around plant-based proteins, so we do things like lentil tacos, chickpea curries, black bean and sweet potato burritos … and so forth!

I love cookbooks. Our menu is usually pretty healthy. If I'm cooking it's healthier than when my guy cooks…he's in the beef business so it's always fun to find new ways to cook using the same main ingredients.
We are really trying to be more healthy. Less boxed dinners, more by scratch recipes. But I am not the best cook, so easy is usually the first on my mind.

breakfast?? whats that?? On the weekends when my husband isn't working and we sleep in we'll have a big brunch, but we don't eat breakfast on a daily basis. Which is probably very unhealthy for us. What can I say, I walk into the walls for at least half an hour after I wake up until I am actually awake, and I would hate to start my husbands day off with something inedible 🙂

My husband LOVES buttermilk pancakes & makes them every morning. So we vary the add-ins, but we're a pancake for breakfast kind of family.
On work/day care days it's no breakfast for me, and whatever is being served at daycare for the little guy. On our at home days it's pb toast for me and froz. pancakes and fruit for the little one. Hubby never eats breakfast…

I would head over and make the cinnamon rolls because I made a batch this weekend that FAILED. Nothing worse than having a kitchen that smells cinnamony wonderful, and then look at a pan of cinnamon rolls that just don't cook right. This cookbook could save from another cooking disasters.
IF i have breakfast it is more often than not, a diet coke. So bad huh? Every great once in a while I get in the kitchen and whip up a bowl of cereal. Thank you, thank you!

I generally have cereal with milk, but sometimes if I'm in a hurry I'll grab a breakfast bar on the way out. Baby girl drinks milk and has a jar of baby food (usually something on the sweeter/fruity side). Hubby eats bagels with peanut butter.
I usually have toast or egg and toast. My stinkin' kids will only eat pop tarts. Some days I can trick them into eating a banana, but then they remember the pop tarts…
Lately its been a bowl of overnight oats and a cup of instant coffee. I like the idea of overnight oats because you can really mix in anything and make it the night before and you can get just plop breakfast into a bowl in the morning and you're good to go. Fast and easy AND healthy, now that's what I'm talking about! 🙂
Always have something healthy and tasty to fall back on when everyone's tired/cranky: beans for burritos, oatmeal and fruit, local eggs.
Usually it's whatever baked goods I have around my house. Today it was banana bread. Last week it was granola bars. Or if I have nothing then it's a muffin from Au Bon Pain.
Our breakfasts don't really highlight healthy eating unfortunately, though I am working on it! My 3 youngest kiddos all start with a cup of chocolate milk, we have meltdown if that's not available! Then we do cereal, or pancakes, or eggs and toast.
If they had it their way it would be –
Baby Boy – whatever anyone else is eating
Youngest girl- donuts
Older girl- bagel with cream cheese
Me- breakfast burrito with fruit and coffee
Hubby- donuts and coffee
I have watched this show on tv sometimes it is so interesting the method behind cooking and baking.
Breakfast around here is pretty uneventful. Just cereal and maybe orange juice or milk to drink.
I am embarrassed to say that breakfast at my house is pretty lazy on my part. I have a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast. My daughter usually has Eggo waffles. And my husband will have cereal or a on-the-go diet shake from Costco. I am pathetic when it comes to makes breakfast for my family!
That zucchini bread looks really good right now! Breakfast so far has been a pumpkin seed/flax granola bar and sweet tea……..
I usually try to do a whole grain and a fruit for breakfast: whole wheat toast and a banana, or this morning it was oatmeal with Trader Joe's Chunky Spiced Apples, yum….

Breakfast is unfortunately usually a mini-bagel or an apple on the way out the door. My husband doesn't eat breakfast, though for the first couple months we were married he made me coffee every morning. It was lovely. He does not anymore. 🙁
We have no kids, but the boys enjoy a scoop of kibble every morning before I head to work. 🙂

I would love a copy of this book! I do 99.9% of the cooking at my house (my husband heats stuff up and calls it cooking), so I love me a good cookbook. I try to cook at least 1 – 2 new recipes a week and then we file the ones we like. A majority of the meals are fairly healthy, but I've been known to splurge on a few fried-up or creamy options 🙂 Please, please, please pick me!
Since it's usually just me and my 11 month old, we share a bowl of oatmeal or yogurt with granola. On the weekends though my husband makes waffles 🙂

now a days, breakfast is something on the run, my favorite is a scramble eggs sandwich with a cup of oatmeal, breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, its our brain food, so it has to be filled with protein, omega-3, I think eggs are one of the most complete foods and its soo inexpensive!!

Confession time… Mornings are not our forte around here. My husband might have a coffee if he has time- I have a Diet Coke- Our 3 year old drinks Carnation Instant Breakfast. I guess we set a bad example. I swear we aren't that unhealthy for the rest of our meals!

For breakfast I have been trying to cook more (muffins, scrambled eggs, pancakes, & waffles each have their own morning), but when I am sick or have been up alot with the baby, it's cold cereal all the way.

Typical breakfast during the week for us is cold cereal (don't worry, it's usually healthy) or oatmeal. On the weekends I make pancakes, french toast or danishes… yum. The pancakes are served with homemade fruit syrup and sometimes chocolate chips.
I find ways to "sneak" my veggies in. We're not real big veggie lovers so I have to be creative. I use purees and also just chop or shred them up and throw them in, don't like it too bad I guess it's too late now! I also have make gluten-free stuff for myself which I'm new to so its a challenge right now.
Lately my breakfast has been a handful of trail mix at my desk. I used to eat oatmeal every morning, but once summer came it was unappealing. Here's hoping fall weather helps change my eating habits for the better!

I may have an unhealthy relationship with my cookbooks… I love them so much. Every Sunday I sit down with all of them and slowly page through them picking our meals for the week (this is often my favorite part of Sunday!). We aim to eat vegetarian a few nights of the week at a minimum. This book would be a welcome addition to our family!

This cookbook looks really great! We're trying to shift towards healthier, more kid-friendly items. Fortunately our 2 year old seems to be ready to expand her palate from chicken nuggets, PB&J;, and grilled cheese.
We usually have oatmeal or cereal on weekdays. Then the weekends my husband goes all out on pancakes, waffles or egg breakfasts. I'm not a morning person, so pouring cereal is about as much effort as I can muster up.
We joined a CSA for the summer, it has transformed the way we eat. With so many veggies, we have to figure out what to make with them, thus eating more vegetables, it is crazy healthy and often really tasty!

We usually eat eggs and fruit or yogurt, fruit and granola (yum). My husband eats an energy bar or granola and fruit on the run for breakfast.
Breakfast for us is usually oatmeal usually with fruit mixed in or eggs & ham. Waffles are also favorite for the boys.
Oh my those crepes look good!! I love love love (one more time) LOVE America's Test Kitchen! We try to eat as organically as possible but sometimes I have those days where I fall off the wagon and NEED to have a greasy unnatural in every way kind of meal that tastes even better because I didn't have to make it or a little artifical food coloring and some high fructose corn syrup AKA candy. For breakfast during the week the hubby has oatmeal or cold cereal (because I am still sleeping and he can make them on his own), our son eats fruit, yogurt, eggs, toast or a bagel (do all kids eat this much in one sitting?), and I get a few bites of whatever the little boy has because if I try to make something for myself he ends up eating it all and I only get 2 bites anyways and I also usually get to eat the reserve granola bar for mommy that is always in my purse, I mean diaper bag. On the weekends we usually do pancakes or waffles with fruit and eggs.
our style is pure comfort. i learned to cook all the foods my hubs loves from my mother-in-law. the only thing is, she is one of those "no recipe" cooks, so we have spent hours in the kitchen together cooking and bonding so i can learn her ways! i've actually started writing her recipes down and taking pictures as we cook so we can put together a family cookbook. it should be finished this year! awesome looking book from ATK. we could use a little 'lightening'!

I'm a cereal girl. My fave is dark chocolate almond granola with coconut. So good! And because it's granola I can pretend it's healthy. Please don't burst my bubble by telling me it isn't.

We eat steel-cut oats in the mornin'! However, my 2 year old will become obsessed for weeks on end with peanut butter pancakes. I do add the buckwheat flour and flaxseed oil for a healthful kick- and that way I can take a nibble! Now that #2 is on their way, my husband will be cooking more often, and that means with his cooking rap sheet… WE NEED THIS COOKBOOK!! 🙂

Breakfast for me is almost always a whole wheat English muffin with a little PB, banana slices, and a drizzle of honey. The girls eat cereal, waffles, scrambled eggs, fruit…pretty much whatever they're in the mood for that day.
Typical breakfast? Cereal. Soft-boiled eggs on Wednesdays. Overnight crockpot Irish oatmeal when I remember the night before. Yummier stuff on weekends. : ) But, mostly, cereal.

My tip for today, buy a laminater, make copies of your favorite recipes and laminate them. My kitchen gets super messy when I am cooking and this has saved some of my recipes from total liquid destruction. I also put those laminated recipes into their own binder of my absolute faves…so when I am stuck, I have a great list of go to recipes.
During the week we tend to do cereal or a bagel, etc. On the weekends I get more adventurous and make pancakes, french toast, crepes or omelets 🙂
i have an almost one year old (he will be one on thursday) so i eat alot of frozen dinners and i make him things i can cut up small. he refuses to eat anything pureed, or babylike. so we eat alot of pasta with peas and corn. he likes itty bitty grilled cheese too!
we love breakfast trailmix during the week when time is short. Mix dried fruit, handful of favorite nuts and add whole grain cereal. Lots of yummy variations!

We eat very healthy because my late father was a diabetic. Friends and family supply vegetables, eggs, game and fish, beef, pork, fruits, and nuts. Lean meats, little salt, lots of herbs, whole grains – my mother is an excellent cook. We watch America's Test Kitchen on PBS. Would be fun to win this book and give it to my mother. I try to vary what we eat for breakfast…. try to mix it up so the kids don't get bored. I'm not real big on cereal, so we do other things that are easy…. crockpot oatmeal or other hot cereal, eggs(or yogurt) with toast, pb mini-bagels,.. and all with 1/2 banana for each of them.
Me-varies-yogurt with fruit and nuts, tofu scramble, oatmeal or other hot cereal
husband-coffee, generic nutri-grain bar and/or hardboiled egg, and/or cookies

We suscribe to a weekly CSA box and build a weekly menu around it's contents. We often get the same thing week after week so I am always looking for more inspiration to change it up a bit. A few months ago I decided it was time to lose that baby weight. I wanted to also change my eating habits because every bad disease possible is in my genetic makeup. One thing I did: I tried to eat 5 servings of fruits + veggies per day. I always assumed that I got 3 or 4 in. NO WAY! It was shocking to see that many days I ate 1 serving or less of non-starchy veggies. (I didn't allow french fries, white rice, or mac & cheese to count.) It's been a challenge, but I'm aiming to add more fresh fruits & veggies in my diet.
ok…so I have to be honest…I usually will not try a recipe unless there is a photo with it! So all the pics make me want this book even more!!

We all eat cold cereal on a regular weekday, but on the weekend it is cottage cheese pancakes with jam and bacon on the side. MMmmmmm. So good and great soft food for a young one in a high chair.

These look fantastic! I cook using healthier options, and can get my husband to eat anything I make, as long as he doesn't watch me prepare it. I have to trick him (it tastes good if he doesn't see the healthy ingredients). Once I made breakfast burritos and he refused to eat it because the eggs were WHITE! So, now I make the burrito for him and roll it up before he sees the insides. He loves it,,,, and yes, I still use egg-whites 🙂
My mother is allergic to garlic so spaghetti night was always so bland and boring. She would take that season packet to make spaghetti sauce blend it with some water and then strain all the good stuff out of it so the sauce only had a hint of flavor.
My father used to eat the fat off my steak and cooked with a lot of butter. He now has high cholesterol. He taught me how to cook. Funny how that is usually the mother's job, but in my families case dad was the cook.
So it wasn't until college when I moved in with my cousin that I learned how to cook and eat healthy. She introduced EVOO, brown rice, steamed veggies, and sweet potatoes to me. Thus stirring up an obsession for eating healthy. Trader Joes and whole food markets were my favorite places to shop for groceries. Then I married a Southern man. Now I am trying to find the balance between good southern home cooking and good healthy food. It is hard sometimes when most southern recipes call for bacon drippings.
My husband and son eat pretty much anything I make, and I doubt either would notice if we skipped out on meat for a few weeks, as long as I continued to cook, lol. At least a few times a week I use no meat, or very little meat, just to save on our grocery budget.
Oh, that looks so yummy!! My husband and I would eat that for sure (although he'd probably want a steak on the side or something), and the baby probably would too. Not sure about the 4-year-old, though…

My husband is not big on veggies, so when he cooks, which is not often, we get meat and potatoes. When I cook, we get meat, SWEET potatoes or brown rice, and fresh veggies!
Our family makes only vegetarian sandwiches (I am veggie and my husband only occasionally eats meat). But my favorite lazy dinner with NACHOS, which that picture definitely is even though they call it something fancy. Mine aren't quite as fancy, but I love the idea of dressing nachos.
I find that I enjoy vegetarian dinners more so than meaty ones! My husband is a healthy eater, so anything that can be categorized as "good-for-him", he'll eat it. That meal looks sooooooooooooo good 🙂
This looks like a lovely book! I love to collect cookbooks … tho I have to admit that my least favorite is the Joy of Cooking. Not sure what it is about that book … but it's not Joyful for me.
Awesome giveaway! I love everything they publish. My family cooks mostly vegetarian to begin with, and my son seems to like veggies. In fact, he got mad at me once because I didn't include any green veggies with our pasta dinner. How's that for a lucky mom!
I would love it and my kids would probably enjoy it also. They are getting better about veggies and one of my goals is to serve at least one vegetarian meal a week, an effort hampered by my husband who thinks vegetables are garnish and no meal is complete without a slab of meat involved, but I try!
That tortilla tart is breathtaking! We do vegetarian once in awhile, but I never plan for it. That being said, I could get behind a vegetarian menu if it tastes as good as that tart looks!
We try and have a "meatless monday" every week. I've finally convinced the hubby that a vegetarian dinner can taste good AND be a great source of protein. Not an easy task!

We too try and eat a meatless dish on Monday, but usually it is some sort of fried pasta with veggies and beans or nuts for protien, and of course, he covers everything in cheese.
I have made zucchini bread for my nephew who doesn't lie veggies. I usually add more zucchini than is called for and I take a bit of sugar out. He loves it he doesn't know it is good for him.
We try to be as healthy as possible eating whole fresh foods, shopping at farmer's markets/CSA, but we also enjoy the occasional indulgences too!
We could probably do vegetarian okay, but it would be ME that would be less interested in it than my husband. I love me some meat!
We try to eat healthy, balanced meals…but sometimes it's really hard with two young children and another on the way! Thankfully, my girls are pretty good about eating what is good for them.

We try to eat healthy as much as possible, but with five kids there are always one or two who aren't happy with the meal. We tried making whole wheat pizza the other night but I think it would have been a bigger hit if we would have decreased the whole wheat flour just a bit. This cookbook would be perfect!

My once "will eat anything" kids are turning pickier by the day. And they refuse to eat leftovers. I am always searching for something healthy and delicious everyone will eat.

We have a 2 month old baby and 3 other young kids, so cooking can be a challenge! We try to not resort to making kid foods all the time, but I will admit that our local pizza place gets a lot of business from us!
I could serve a vegetarian meal and my husband wouldn't even flinch. I think he'd be more okay with it then I would! I grew up with the idea that you always had to have some kind of meat in a meal, but my husband is totally okay with no meat, as long as it fills him up. So, I'm free to serve anything I like, we all love veggies!

I am so buying this book if I don't win. I try to cook pretty healthy most of the time (lots of chicken breast and ground turkey, big salads as a side dish, brown rice instead of white, as little added fat as possible), but sometimes we indulge to keep it from getting too monotonous.

Sure, we love vegetarian meals too. As long as there is a good source of protein. Our favorites are Indian dishes, channa masala or anything with paneer.
In the past I've been pretty good about cooking/eating healthfully. Lately, however, it's been a lot harder for me. A big part of the problem is that I tend to just come up with an idea and wing it, but my brain is not coming up with much anymore. I think it got tired of coming up with "What's for dinner?" every nighton the fly, with no help. This cookbook would be the help it needs! (My husband isn't any help- he'll eat anything and has no preferences whatsoever- which can be a very great thing, but a very frustrating thing at times as well). Oh, and we are vegetarian, so a lot of the meals I grew up with, I don't make since they were meat based.
Oh, yum! We cook dinner almost every night, for the most part healthy things. Right now I'm introducing new foods to my one-year old. Her favorites are plain yogurt, baked goods (of course), and fresh peaches.
We welcome vegetarian meals three times a day. That is to say, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I make an effort to eliminate animal products (ie eggs, cheese) wherever possible. I have never felt better.

I would love to make more vegetarian meals but my kids & hubs are adverse to beans, which seem to feature prominently in alot of vegetarian meals. If I had that cookbook to make that recipe, maybe that would persuade my kids to try it.

Vegetarian dishes are definitely accepted in our home. We planted eggplant this year and it did so well – we have it with at least 2-3 meals a week! It is nice to get full without the heavy feeling that I sometimes feel with meat dishes.
We would definitely try today's pictured recipe! As long as its not tofu, we're game. 🙂
I'd love to say that we eat healthy but more often dinner is about what the other 4 people in my house will eat. Plus, I'm not a good cook. I'm an adequate cook. No one is going to starve under my care but they might be craving something with a little more flavor.

1 salt addicted grandpa: low sodium diet ONLY
1 gluten-free grandma
1 slightly-senile-sweet-toothed great-grandma: oh, did I have cake already?
1 drooling soon-to-be table food eating 6 month old vying for every moment of my attention.

My BIL made the most disgusting thing ever…it was like a giant all-meat super-sausage. It was seriously a cylinder 6 inches across and 10 or so long. I'm hoping that he can be forgiven since he's in college!
I've totally been on a sandwich kick lately. With avacado! Of course, sandwiches are always best when someone else makes them so it's a good thing my husband dose most of the cooking around here!
I try not to have desserts on a regular basis. With only three people in the house, we surely do not need an entire cake or anything like that hanging around. Because it will get eaten, and 1/3 of a cake is, well, awful for you.
I love cookbooks and one that is healthy and has beautiful photos….ahhhh. My kids eat chicken nuggets and buttered noodles almost every day. Would love to add some variety!

We don't eat dessert every night, but I always have something on hand. On Sunday nights, we do a "family" dinner (it's in quotes b/c it's with our friends) and I always make dessert for that!
Dessert? Yes please! My son only gets dessert if he finishes an acceptable amount of dinner. He usually picks something like gummi snacks. Hubby and I often have ice cream or a baked good after the kids are in bed.
dessert is a real treat in our house – we usually eat a small snack before bed, like an apple, maybe with a dab of peanut butter. but occasionally we go out for an ice cream cone (baby size for all!) or maybe dad will bring home a sweet treat they were tempting him with at work, and he wants to share the joy.
My Husband and my son share skinny cow ice cream sandwiches and otterpops every night after dinner. it is their bonding time…
We love dessert around our house! Usually it's fruit or yogurt. But I love to bake when it's cold especially, so I can't wait to try some of these recipes.
Sometimes we eat dessert. Usually on Sundays. Then sometimes I have ice cream after dinner and then feel guilty about it!
When there are baked goods or ice cream around the house, we eat it as snacks before dinner and as desserts after dinner. It's not really a meal ender, it's more of a "I like sweets and must eat them when I have room in my tummy." But hopefully when we have kids it won't be that way.

I would LOVE this cookbook!!! I try to cook healthy recipes for the family. We eat dessert too often. Both my boys really want something each night. My older son will eat a handful of chocolate chips and my younger son might have a tootsie roll or something else we might have. We are implementing "dessert free" nights though. It can get out of hand!
We have not eaten red meat for 10+ years. After reading "Eating Animals," I'm contemplating going all the way veg. But, we are definitely a healthy foods household with the occasional red vine or french fries 🙂
We only occasionally have a dessert after dinner. But my oldest girl (5) somehow has the idea that if she finishes all her dinner ( she is a ridiculously picky eater) then she DESERVES dessert. Not sure where that came from. Sometimes sugar after dinner makes my kids crazy, so occasionally (on busy days when dinner ends up too close to bed time) I will send them to bed and then bring out dessert for my husband and myself.
Sometimes it is just so hard to find the right healthy meal for my family. This would be a great help.
Growing up, my mom had a sweet tooth, and my dad made gorgeous desserts… so we had dessert after every meal. Pies, cakes, custards, pastries, homemade icecream… you name it!
I inherited my dad's passion and talent, and married a man who doesn't like sweets, and especially not right after a meal. So If I make desserts, I eat them alone… which kind of makes me feel like a fat kid plowing through a whole chocolate cake alone (but it rarely slows me down).
We don't do dessert at the table really, but we almost always have some kind of "treat" a little later in the evening – sometimes sweets, but often something like chips and salsa too.
If we have dessert, it's usually ice cream. My husband LOVES ice cream. But only the vanilla ice cream from Trader Joe's. I always fear sending him to Trader Joe's for something we need because I know he'll bring home ice cream!!
No dessert for the baby, and sometime we will have a little something sweet after the baby goes to bed, usually dark chocolate or gelato.
My husband gets on dessert kicks…two months of eating reeses peanut butter cups, then two months of mint cookies, etc. I can always entice him with fresh baked brownies or chocolate chip cookies and get him to deviate from his current obsession. As a family we only have dessert after dinner on occasion, but I love baking!
We are not nearly as healthy as I'd like…which is why this book has me drooling! This is going on my Christmas wishlist!
I have the ultimate sweet tooth. A meal is not finished until sweet brings it to an end. My daughter has inherited this from me as well. Usually it's just a bite of chocolate or fruit, but I can't remember the last meal that didn't end in dessert.

We generally don't eat dessert after dinner, but when my kids get candy after parades or Halloween, I let them have 2 pieces after dinner. Sundays are our days to eat whatever we want, so sometimes we make cookies or have ice cream then.

I think if I don't win this, I will have to buy it anyway. I'm vegetarian, but my husband isn't and I'm really hoping this will have more veg-friendly recipes than most America's Test Kitchen cookbooks, but still have recipes that he can prepare if he feels like eating meat (which, let's be honest, if eating meat requires him to cook- which it does- he'll just settle for eating veggie meals. But still. He really should learn.). My fingers are definitely crossed!

We hardly every have dessert. I just don't see the point. We don't need the extra calories at the end of the day. I do like to make treats though, and I don't mind giving a brownie or rice krispie treat or muffin in the early afternoon.
I love checking out cook books! I eat anything, my husband is vegan, and my pre-schooler is somewhere in the middle. Meal time can be tricky, but we make it work. We buy mostly organic/simple ingredients.

We've been making a conscious effort over the past few weeks to change the balance of our plates- (think 1/2 veggies/fruit, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb), and making good choices for snacks that are healthy and filling. Based on the book Ending the Food Fight by David Ludwig.

I love America's Test Kitchen–one of my favorite shows, and their recipes are (obviously) amazing. Right now I go between eating very healthy foods and junk foods–but I'm pregnant, so I don't really fight the cravings. I'd love to be inspired to stay on the healthy path, though!
I have Celiacs disease (I can't eat gluten…wheat and most grains) so I have to be creative with what my family eats. It's hard to make sure our meals are nutritionally balanced, and I am becoming a rock star at substituting grains that I can have:) I really would LOVE to have this recipe book, we love the other America's test kitchen books!
For us… eating healthy comes a step at a time. We make it day-by-day by subbing starches with veggies so more salads and less potatoes. For our 9 month old, we use a baby food mill and make her fresh fruits and veggies for every meal.
I try to be healthy, but also love cheese, which sometimes negates the health factor. 😛
We don't normally have dessert, but I do enjoy a warm batch of homemade cookies or brownies!
We probably eat dessert more than we should, about 3 or 4 times a week. usually its something like a batch of cookies but lately my hubby has been on a big crisp mode. Our favorite is wild blueberry and pear crisp, and it's got oatmeal in it so I can pretend it's a little healthy too? And low fat frosting? I was just thinking I was really missing out by not having a food processor, and now I have found a reason to splurge on one! Thanks!

Our family eats healthy, majority of food that's organic and fresh. I hardly use any salt when I cook and <5% red meat consumption.
Coming up w/ new dinners is difficult. I always find myself cooking the same meals weekly. This cookbook would be awesome to have. =P
I usually don't do desserts. We do however celebrate special occasions with dessert or just whenever I feel like really baking, which is not very often.
hubby usually has a chocolate covered banana after dinner and I wait until the little one goes to bed to have some form of weight watchers or skinny cow ice cream bar. Once a week we eat at my parents house and little one is allowed a dessert – usually an oreo cookie or something my mom made 🙂
We sometimes have a dessert, but nothing is our "usual". I have so many delicious dessert recipes that I can't stand ignoring any of them!

I would love to share a tip about being healthy but more times than not I find myself using prepackage items for dinner. I really need to take the time to plan ahead and find tasty & quick meals for my family to eat.

I am a new mom and just about to start going back to work part time. With a new baby and limited time, I struggle to get meals on the table… Honestly, it's a good night when there are leftovers in the fridge from the weekend. It's hard to eat healthy all the time — especially when the bad stuff sometimes seems quicker/more accessible — but we try our best.
we usually have some sort of sweet after dinner, whether it's a glass of ovaltine or a cookie. or a midnight pb&j;.

Our menu is based heavily on what comes in the CSA farmshare box each week. This mean that we all hate squash right now.

I do a lot of cooking from scratch, but I ain't above throwing some chicken nuggets in the microwave – and YES, we use a microwave! I'd say my boys eat about 85% homemade, about 50% organic, and 100% made of love <3
Here's a great tip – add a jar of baby food veggie – like squash or pumpkin – to 3 beaten eggs. Scramble like usual… they are delish and the kids eat protein & Veg!
We haven't been a healthy eating family in the past but we are all on the same page for changing that. We have dropped some of our bad habits in exchange for some healthy ones. We are gaining with a few fall backs but we will get there. This book would be awesome to have as a tool of keeping on the track.

I am pretty sure half of my Test Kitchen cookbook is distroyed due to usage. Love it. We try. Just told my twin 3-year olds that there will be no more candy till Halloween, didn't go over well. somedays we are on the good, real food wagon, and somedays we are on the f-it, we are going to Micky D's. But the best thing i have learned is the power of smoothies! frozen fruit, yogurt, apple juice, protien powder, spinach and carrot juice…mmmmmm.
We try to eat about 70% healthy–non-processed, homemade, plenty of vegetable–to make up for the other 30% of the time when I make mac & cheese with broccoli on the side. One thing I've fairly consistent on: good breakfasts. I want to send the kiddos to school with some substance in their tummies.
We eat fast and easy. But that can mean healthy too! Simple dishes are often the best tasting and healthiest to prepare.

I can't say I have a favorite pasta dish…I love all pasta equally! I want this cookbook so I can make pasta a little healthier and feel less guilty eating it.

Choosing a favorite pasta dish is so hard! My ultimate pasta would have to have pesto sauce with lots of cheese on top, sundried tomatoes, and artichoke hearts!

My cooking style is homemade. I am trying to make our meals as healthy as I can, but really, I just try to make as much as I can from scratch.
The Hubs (is that a word?) always gives me a hard time for having so many cookbooks. He says, "You have so many, so why do we eat the same things over and over?" I love to READ them, just like you. Makes me feel powerful to know that I have the knowledge at my fingertips to make all those cool recipes. But this book looks awesome. I know I would actually USE it. When they said a marriage needs variety and spice, I didn't know they were talking about the kitchen! Wouldn't want my husband wandering and giving in to the temptation of someone else's zucchini bread. So I need this book to save my marriage!
I love my Mom's poor man's lasagna with whole grain twisty noodles. And its a great way to use up that last 1/3 gallon of milk by whipping up a quick batch of cottage cheese (which sounds hard to make, but its really ridiculously easy.)
favorite pasta of late is from an italian restaurant a few cities away – so distance makes the heart grow fonder. it is just a simple ravioli in an amazing sauce – but since i can't (read: won't) make my own ravioli, and homemade pasta sauce never seems to taste good when i make it, i rely on our twice-a-year trips – truly all my hips could handle anyway.
I LOVE Penne Amatriciana – penne in a spicy red sauce with pancetta (or bacon). It's what I "ordered" (read: made my dad go get me) the evening my daughter was born last October. YUM! Pioneer Woman posted a recipe on her blog for pasta with pancetta and leeks that's also fantastic.
We were always pretty healthy eaters until our son was born, then it was whatever was quick and easy. He's 10 months old now and has been eating solid food for a while. I'm hoping once he's on all solid food, we can go back to more *actual* cooking and healthy eating.
My favorite pasta dish is probably linguine carbonara. I found a light version that I really love. I need some meat with my pasta – I can't think of any veggie pastas I love…
My favorite go to pasta dish at the moment is just plain old spaghetti with tofu meatballs! We almost have it once a week!
My family's menu flucuates every week. It's according to how well I have shopped, or my lack of grocery store enthusiam or our hectic schedule. I do like to cook and right now I am in a supper funk. I need new ideas…..even the 2 year old gives me the look of "this again." Sometimes, Wednesday night supper at church is such a relief not just in time, but the fact that someone else made the decision about dinner. I need this book to revitalize my cooking. I have used several receipes from America's Test Kitchen with great success. I use their receipe for taco meat at least every other week.
My fiance would love this for a birthday present!
Favorite pasta dish of the moment is probably bruschetta chicken pasta. So yummy!
We try to eat locally, so I shop once a week at a local market to avoid going to "chain" grocery stores. This helps me cut down on waste and cost by eating only what is in the house. We also find more ways to reinvent leftovers by shopping this way. It requires a bit of planning, but tastes delicious and supports my local farmers and economy!
I'll eat anything pasta, but my fav might just be Spaghetti and meatballs. Simple and delish… with real italian meatballs the size of apples… yuuuuuuuuuummm.

Pasta, Pasta, Pasta! I'd marry pasta if I could! I looooove, Alfredo. That's it… nothing too fancy, just Alfredo. But, I have to say, Applebees' Three Cheese Chicken Penne is one of my ABSOLUTE favs! Yum!

Our family eats really healthy– really low fat and lots of veggies. My daughter thinks seaweed is a great treat!

I love pasta, and plain 'ole spaghetti and meatballs or fettucini alfredo are my absolute favorites.
i like to think we eat pretty well. i love to make anything homemade. but we still enjoy our chocolate and fast food now and then 😉

We are trying to eat healthier. Well, cook healthier mostley, we eat pretty healthy most of the time because the MIL does alot of cooking for us. Either we go there or she comes her and cooks, but I'm still not the best cook around so I make mostley the same recipes over and over. Which happens to be alot of fried chicken, tator topped cass., and pasta dishes. The last two I can throw some veggies in mixing it up a little, but the hubby is getting really tired of the same things and I'm nervous to try new things. A good healthy cook book would be very appriciated, from both me and the hubby. After having a baby three months ago I have some weight I want to lose and I know I'm not eating perfectly to do that. (and shh…. but the hubby needs to lose some weight too) <3
We don't typically eat dessert. And if we do, it's a simple popsicle or scoop of ice cream. Every so often we'll have something more elaborate. We had chocolate covered strawberries a few weeks ago. Yum!

My kids eat desert most nights. They consider desert a single serve chocolate pudding or a few cookies. We also enjoy brownies in our house, so I make those quite often.
I make a rigatoni pasta with EVOO, lots of garlic, italian seasoning, peppers & onions, and whatever kind of sausage is on sale – brats, italian, chicken, turkey, whatever – it's so yummyit is expected to be made at least once a week for dinner.
I love canneloni. We make everything from scratch right down to the pasta. Unfortunately, I am nursing my beautiful baby girl who is allergic to everything dairy so… I am wallowing in self pity for the next few months when I can finally wean her and gorge myself on cheese.
I have been dreaming of eating this baked pasta dish with alfredo sauce, pasta, then marinara sauce layered on top of each other. I think it's the alfredo that is really calling my name though.

My favorite pasta dish is probably Ziti or Ravioli. Basically anything with ricotta cheese in it. You cannot go wrong with ricotta cheese!
We have an amazing recipe for black bean lasagna. It makes an overflowing 10×13 dish. Sometimes we freeze a couple pieces for later, but usually it's gone within a week.
fav pasta dish..for sure spinach and cheese stuffed shells with a super chunky marinara sauce covering it! yum!

We are terrible….I try to do salads but then we get tired of the same stuff…..so we get something else. If I knew how to do some good salads I would probably try them more often. I'm always afraid to buy a bunch of ingredients that don't fit together!! :0l

I love angel hair with some basil and feta and sometimes chicken. The flavors just sound SO good to me. Or course, the kids prefer butter and "shaker cheese."

My menu style is to balance good and bad meals during the week. Thankfully no one is too picky unless it's a straight veggie dish. Put the veggies into a casserole or stir fry and then it's all good.
That is a WONDERFUL looking cookbook. I LOVE cookbooks. I feel that no one can ever have too many.
My favorite is a nice pasta salad, something light and summery with lots of veggies in it.

Our family favorite is good 'ol spaghetti. Nobody argues about not liking that dish. We love garlic bread and a salad along with it. I love basil pesto in my pasta personally!
I love rice noodles with ginger and soy dressing with whatever veggies I have on hand!
Our eating style is usually healthy (on weekdays) with splurging limited to weekends of pizza, cake and doughnuts! But we ALWAYS eat a healthy breakfast, not matter what. Even if it means eating a bowl of high fiber cereal with skim milk and THEN having a doughnut "snack". 🙂
Favorite pasta dish of all time-lasagna! When I want to take the time to do it right, I roast some veggies in the oven to add to the layers. (I'm vegetarian so it's generally pretty heavy on veggies anyway)

I love to curl up with cookbooks too and wouldn't mind curling up with this one and picking out some healthy dishes to serve my family. Sometimes I cook super healthy and sometimes a little less.

Yum! Everything you are posting sounds so good. With a toddler, I'm always trying to sneak veggies and even meat any way I can!
We are trying to eat more healthy, and trying to expose our 20 month old to as much food as we can. This cookbook looks great for both things!
I am so glad my whole family is supporting the healthy eating because I know that I couldn't possible eat healthy while cooking them unhealthy foods. TEAM WORK!

We eat fruit after dinner every night. Other dessert is maybe 2-3x/week. I try to do lots of fruit for desserts though… like homemade sorbets in the summer, applesauce or poached pears and apples in the fall. Other desserts are such things as homemade cookies(I um, am a cookie snob and do not like store-bought ones), pudding, occasionally homemade ice cream or pie.
sometimes we'll purposefully leave the veggies off the kiddo's plate and then ooh and aah about good they taste. usually works to get them to try a bite. just can't use this too often or it doesn't work.
I'm not picky when it comes to pasta, but I think my favorite – if I had to pick just one – would be puttanesca. Without the Anchovies, because I'm vegetarian. Mmmm…tomatoes, capers and olives…and it freezes well to boot. Best stuff ever.
I will eat any pasta dish out there! Love pasta. Love sauce. Love pasta and sauce. YUM!

I love pasta, but my husband is not much or red sauce, so I love trying out different sauces, he is always willing to try new things so that helps!!!
there's a restaurant south of cincinnati called Karlo's Bistro Italia. i was a hostess there in college. their angel hair with chicken and spinach is probably my favorite meal of all time. it sounds so simple, and it is, but it comes in this incredible lemon butter sauce. with capers. and now my mouth is watering.

I grew up never having dessert, except on special occasions. My husband is a dessert every night kind of guy. We compromise and have dessert a few times a week and usually keep it small, a scoop of ice cream or a cookie and only if the kids made a good effort at eating dinner.
