Giveaway: The Best of America’s Test Kitchen 2011

This book is so lovely!  More than just a cookbook, it’s filled with details & descriptions of how to cook and why, scientifically, things are done the way they are done.  So many yummy recipes as well!  Take a look…

Yes, please, I’ll have three of each. You know we love America’s Test Kitchen – Jacinda even got to tour their kitchen earlier this year. This cookbook would make a great man gift or addition to your library. We love the details (and drawings) the most:

Check the book out here: The Best of America’s Test Kitchen 2011.

So to enter this giveaway, tell us what the best thing is that you cook. I’m famous for my clay pot garlic chicken, but secretly I love plain old green enchiladas with everything from a can, yum.

Leave your comment between now and midnight next Tuesday, December 14th. Tweet, stumble, or facebook the giveaway and leave us another comment letting us know each time for an additional entry. Come back every day for new entries. We will select a winner via random.org and announce next week here on PB.

Happy Cooking!

My girls love our homemade tacos! And with no help from a packet, it's probably one of my most impressive made-from-scratch meals! 🙂

The most requested of my dishes is a family recipe for pasta with sausage and a creamy tomato sauce. I don't know what it's called because I don't speak Italian. 🙂

I know you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but….yum!

my favorite thing to cook is anything of my Grandmas, she handed down all her recipes to me and i scrapbooked them into a cookbook. i am the only one that knows the recipes that she filed "in her head" so whenever i make her chili, or her casseroles or anything, it makes me think of her.

Jam. For my daughters first birthday, I made strawberry, peach, berry cherry, blueberry cherry, blueberry lime, chocolate raspberry, chocolate covered cherry, banana nut, carrot cake and mango pineapple. This year for christmas I made spiced pear, and carmel apple jam.

I cook, only because I have to, and always follow a recipe. So I'll tell you my favorite Hubby recipes. Turkey burger smothered with homemade sweet and spicy coleslaw, drenched in homemade spicy garlic sauce! OH BOY, I am a lucky (and full) girl!

I make great BLTs with arugula and sun dried tomatoes.

Also, grilled veggie salads – roasted peppers, corn, zucchini, squash, asparagus over mixed greens and avocado with sun dried tomatoes.

I am very good at cakes. All kinds. I made 28 different cakes for my own wedding. One on each table. It ended up being an amazing wedding, but I never want to do that again!

My best recipe are Chewy Ginger Bars. They taste like a bit of chewy gingerbread heaven and always get requests for the recipe. Mmmm, must make again.

I just made a new 'best thing' for the first time this weekend – Chicken and Dumplings from an old issue of Cook's Illustrated. Dutch oven comfort food is tough to beat!

My best recipe is Steak Gorgonzola Pasta. I know it's good because 2 out of 3 daughters requested that I make this the past two years for their birthday dinners.

I'm not "famous" for anything, but I can follow a recipe and we have quite a few favorites around here, like Rachael Ray's Red Wing Burgers (buffalo wing-style turkey burgers). I love ATK, though, and would love this cookbook!

I am always known for bringing the sweet dish to the table, and this year I am making pumpkin bread pudding (via Bobby Flay that I fell in love with from when Pioneer Woman Cooks challenged him to a throw-down!)

Reply

Does it have to be cooking because I lean more towards the baking side. I have to say I make an awesome chocolate cake

Reply

I am famous for a chocolate cake with ganache frosting. It's amazing (I don't even like normal cake because it's always so awful).

I cook a lot, but I'm probably most known outside the home for my pecan pie muffins, and inside the home for my prosciutto cream pasta!

Either my homemade spaghetti and meatballs (using my Dad's recipe) or Sweet Potato Gratin. My husband actually asks for the sweet potatoes for his birthday instead of cake!

I'm not sure! My family seems to like everything, but I am horrible about making the same thing twice. I look for new recipes every week… exhausting. So I just started my own cookbook with all the recipes I love in hopes that I will make something twice!

I make an awesome split pea soup. I know, I know….weird. Who likes split pea soup? But it's SO SO good. Even the kids(and they're little) will eat it. Magic, I tell ya.

Oh, and it's even vegetarian, so no ham hock.

Ask Jacinda if Julia from the PBS series is as snarky as she sometimes comes off. You should subscribe to Cook's Country, it's the best cooking magazine I've found.

One of my family favorites is my Lettuce Wraps. I found a receipt in a magazine while waiting at a doctors office. Jotted it down and customized it. If i do say so my self it is better then our favorite restraints Lettuce wraps.

The best thing I make is chicken and dumplings. I try to make fancier dishes, and they just don't always turn out right. Chicken and dumplings never fail me, as it turns out, I am a midwest comfort food kind of girl.

My specialty is borek which is Turkish but I tried the ATK spanakopita recipe (which is the same thing only Greek!) and now that's my specialty! My Turkish father does not approve 😉

My most famous recipe is a pizza ring – it gets RAVES every time, and it's really portable! 🙂 Must be accompanied by dipping sauce, of course… 😉

The best thing I cook is Chile Rellenos from Diana Kennedy's The Art of Mexican Cooking. But this is a demanding recipe so I don't cook it often. The best thing I cook often is the Crock Pot Bolognese sauce from Cook's County, a magazine by the same team as America's Test Kitchen. ATK is a great show for Cooks and Geeks, Geeky Cooks!

love the book! great photos! i don't think i have a specialty… we do a lot of pasta after work since it's so quick!

I can't choose a favorite. But I know one of my husband's favorites is a chicken 'parmasan' I do. its not really. Simply cut up chicken thighs, tomatos sauce, mushrooms, because well I can getmy husband to eat anything with mushrooms, and cheese.

Every year the kids can't wait for the holidays when I bake Pumpkin Cheesecake. But throughout the year I suppose the family's favorite is my impromptu crockpot soups. I just LOVE finding different combinations (mostly leftovers) and simmer up some really yummy soups. (ATK is by far my favorite of all cooking shows out there! I'm hooked on their cookbooks too!!)

I love ATC – you can always get great feedback on foods, gadgets and also the BEST – already tested for you recipes! I am a total cookbook junkie. I don't know if I'm famous for any one item. However, I have been dubbed a "culinary homewrecker" by neighbors because I can cook (well). My husband thinks this is one of the greatest titles I could carry.

It wouldn't be fair to say that I'm famous for making chicken soup since it's my grandmother's recipe, but it is one heck of a chicken soup!!! I love, love, love America's Test Kitchen. Thank you so much for this giveaway.

I'm hungry just looking at this cookbook! And I just finished dinner…

I make pretty bitchin' banana bread. Best part: it is different every time, depending on what spices are around and what mix-ins I feel like. Last time I made it with whole wheat flour, tea masala, and raisins…so good. I'm happy to share the recipe if you want it.

Brownies are my best. I make them for friends who need a pick-me-up, for birthdays, for arrivals of new babies, for comfort in sad times. They are decadent in a way that is so helpful – as only chocolate can be.

I think I'm probably famous for my cornbread. It's my favorite and my my mom always asks me to make it. I only have a few things I can cook though I'm really gearing up to change that this week when I put my name down to cook for my household not once, but twice! this week O_O

Come to think of it I'm famous for my sugar cookies. Everybody loves them and I've had several people ask me for the recipe.

if by famous, you mean my kids & husband eat every bit, ask for seconds & request leftovers the next day, then i'd say sauce & meatballs.

My husband adores all things cheese…so his favorite dinner is my chicken and stuffing casserole, with a layer of provolone cheese melted into the center….mmMmmM!

My best has to be my "Good as Gold" Oatmeal Cookies. They are highly sought after this time of year and could easily be used as currency. Buttery and crisp on the outside, chewy and sweet on the inside. My best dinner would be my Trifecta meatloaf made with pork, ground chuck and veal.

Everyone's favorite request is my giant triple chocolate chip cookies. If you ask me though, I'd pick the Italian Cream Cupcakes (w/ Hazelnuts instead of Pecans) topped with candied hazelnuts and toasted coconut… Mmmmmm

We LOVE panini's!! Everyone loves them in our house. We put out a spread of Italian bread, tortilla wraps, whole grain bread as the base. Sauces: Mayo, Miracle Whip, Mustard, Butter. Meats: Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef. Cheeses: Provolone, Swiss, Cheddar. Extras: Lettuce, Pickles, Onion, Sprouts, Salt and Pepper. Everyone assembles theirs just the way they like it and then we lightly rub EVOO on the outside and pop er' in the Panini grill. Delicious!! 🙂
