Valentines Day Raspberry Mint Sugar Hearts

How sweet are these little sugar hearts?  My swell sister-in-law whipped them up and is sharing a tute with us on how to make ’em for our little sweeties.  My SIL, Stevee, is married to my husband’s identical twin, mom to my sweet little niecey JoJo, resident expert mom of Nashville, and you can catch her blogging about her current pregnancy (a boy this time!) at Babble’s Being Pregnant. Also, she’s ridic gorg, I mean, really…

These sugar hearts are so much easier to make than I thought they would be, and how sweet for a little Valentines Day tea party? Take it away Stevee!

Valentines Day Raspberry Sugar Mint Hearts

Here are the only ingredients you will need:
Granulated Sugar
Peppermint Extract
Raspberry Extract
Red Food Coloring
Hot Water

Combine:
1/4 tsp. Raspberry Extract
1/4 tsp. Peppermint Extract
1/4 tsp. Red Food Coloring
Once combined, add enough HOT water to equal 2 tablespoons of liquid

In a bowl, add your red mixture little by little to 2 cups sugar.

Mix the sugar with a fork until sugar begins to hold its shape. This will look similar to moist sand.

Spoon the yummy sugar mixture into heart-shaped molds. Compact the sugar by pressing it into the molds with your fingers, or the back of a spoon. I found these perfect cute molds on amazon.

Take a cookie sheet and cover it with parchment paper.

Right after you compact the sugar, turn your molds over on your cookie sheet, and gently tap your sugar cubes out. They will fall out pretty easily. If you have any that fall apart, not to worry. Put them back into the mold and compact it again.

Once on the cookie sheet, let them dry for 1-2 hours. You will know they are dry when they are nice and hard.

You could also very easily leave out the peppermint, and they would be FABULOUS in your morning cup of coffee.

Perfect for a Valentine’s Day tea party!

I can also see them egg or bunny shaped for Easter.  Sweet!

Hello! I want to make the one-shoulder dressy dress for my 5-year-old granddaughter to wear to her big brother's COLLEGE graduation! Yes, she is 5 and he is 21. My daughter is a brave lady! Have you any suggestions about the measurements for a girl's size 6 on this one?…………please?
Thank you, Linda Snyder, Hood River, OR

She is BEAUTIFUL! And thanks for idea for Valentine's day!!! I personally hate Valentine's day, but try to make the most of it for the kids. Pink everything! We also make hot pink apple-cinnamon pancakes with strawberry syrup. Just add a dash of cinnamon and a jar of apple baby food to your pancake recipe, along with a few drops of hot pink food coloring and you're good to go!

These look too good to be true! Will definitely be doing these for V-day, St. Patty's, Easter, and what ever other holiday I can find a mold for. And if I use organic sugar, they aren't bad for you, right? ; ) Thanks so much for sharing!
