The Pretty Path to Potty-Trained

How’s potty training going in your home? I don’t want to talk about it. But I DO want to show you this pretty little potty chart that Clare and I made. We have been enjoying lots of board games lately so we applied that premise to the chart. A path with spaces to be filled with stickers as you earn your way to cool prizes. The prizes can be drawn in as you go to renew excitement. I can’t guarantee that this chart will work (I’m NO expert on potty training) but I can guarantee that it will be pretty to look at.

What we did:
Draw a long squiggly line in pencil, then thicken the line by adding a line about an inch out on either side. Draw in your spaces.

Collect an assortment of pretty paper scraps. I used all of my brochures from Quilt Market. Can you spot the Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner and Cloud 9? Then we added some shapes punched out of scrapbooking paper, and some pages of an anthro catalog.

Start cutting and gluing!

(yes, that is a wig)

You’re done when you fill up your background! You may find yourself enjoying the cutting and pasting long after the kids have moved on.

Draw in your first prize! Um, that BFA is sure coming in handy.

Kindof makes you want a chart of your own, doesn’t it? For like, doing the pans before you go to bed or drinking 8 glasses of water a day?

The enthusiasm is palatable.

Haha! Love that face at the end. πŸ™‚ We've been pretty lax about potty training our almost two year old daughter, but after we get back from vacation in a couple weeks we plan to really step it up. It is definitely a challenge! Best of luck!

We are thinking about starting in a week or two. I will save the chart method for later, I think B is a little too young to understand that still but I might make one for me.
Good luck!

Ugg. I seeeee this in my future. :/ its pretty but the hours of "do you neeeed to go potty" and no results when we get there are not exactly the highlight of the months ahead.. Lol

We didn't do anything like this, but I LOVE the idea. We were VERY relaxed about it, no pressure at all, made sure he knew where the potty was, would ask if he needed to use it, etc. My son was 3 and a half when he was potty trained and he pretty much did it himself. He decided he was a big boy and too old for diapers. After that, if he had an occasional accident, he was harder on himself than we could have ever been. He viewed it as a status symbol. He was a "big boy." (This also happened while I was pregnant and at the same time, ditched the sippy cups- "Big boys don't drink from baby cups.") He's almost 6 and one of the few kids I know his age that doesn't have accidents or wet the bed. Sent him with an extra outfit to preschool, got the same outfit back at the end of the year. πŸ™‚ So proud of him. I hope it goes as well with baby Milo. I'm willing to put another year and a half into changing diapers if it gets the same results. But we'll see. I might have to make a potty training chart this time- maybe superheroes? πŸ™‚ Gotta go- baby found the crayons…

So cute! Wish I'd had one for my son, the chart I made him was quite boring in comparison. I'm hoping it's true what they say, that girls are easier to potty train than boys.

My mom sent me the link to this blog post. How nice to see that I'm not alone in potty-training my little girl! Some days are good, some not so good. Today is not so good! That chart is great and something I think she'd LOVE! Will definitely put something together like that soon. Thanks for a great idea!

thank you! my huge almost-three-year-old has grown out of diapers, but has no interest in fully potty training. we'll see if this method can help where all others have failed.

I may have to use this idea, but instead of a potty chart make it a chart for brushing teeth. I have the hardest time convincing my 3 1/2 year old to brush her teeth. It takes me twenty minutes to get her to open her mouth! Maybe this would entice her! πŸ™‚

Oh, I can relate! I recently potty trained #1 and I'm really not looking forward to doing it all over again when the time comes for kid #2. Your chart is pretty though πŸ™‚

This is SO awesome! I was a nanny for years and thusly potty-trained lots of kiddos. It was a struggle to get it down but, with the use of charts and whatnot, we eventually got it down. I wish I had had this a few years back… BUT now with my own child, I can make use of this in about a year. Thanks so much!

This is a great progress chart/game for children. I had purchased one with my son during his potty training stage and it didn’t work so well. Thankfully I found http://www.simplypottytrain.com when it was time to potty train my daughter. I got her potty trained in 3 days..and they guarantee it or your money-back! I seriously had nothing to lose..and tons of diaper money to save!! Definitely check it out. And I will definitely be pointing my peers to this site so they can check out how to make this chart for their little ones. Thanks and best of luck to everyone!
