I always wondered if Martha's recipe would work in smaller quantities. Thank you for the video! Good to know that it doesn't need to be primed too by rubbing chalk all over it before first use.
ppags, actually it is a good idea to prime it (it is with any chalkboard), that got edited out somehow. but if you don't prime it it will be fine, it just will take a little water to erase your chalk marks the first few times.
I love this!!! I have black chalkboard cabinets in my kitchen, and I had this inkling to paint a chalkboard area on my son's wall, but I wanted something more fun. Maybe I will get crazy and do a rectangle area for the chalkboard and do stripes of green and blue or something, to give it some added fun!
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I made the paint, but went back a few hours later and it is spongy and much closer to solid than liquid. Any ideas how to get back to the original form or do you think I should just start over?
milkweed – hard to say without seeing the texture but you want it to be pretty thick. the grout is what makes the chalk stick to the paint. so you don't want it to be in clumps, but not super liquid either. as long as you can smooth it onto your surface without visible lumps in it, it should be good. so if it's too clumpy you can add more paint, or you could even try a little water first, but the ratio is no more than 1/4 cup to a gallon, and mix it well.
I am having trouble finding the unsanded grout. In what aisle of the hardware store is it located?
aisle 18. HA! no it depends on the hardware store. at my local one it is next to the paint in a section with all the tile installation stuff. some hardware stores might have it next to the plumbing stuff.
