Gather your palette of tissue paper. We also used some foil from the candy isle at Michaels to add  brilliant shine to the ornaments.

Fold a few sheets of tissue together the same way until it is easy to snip a 3/4 height strip. then fringe along the bottom of the strip about 1/4″ apart and 1/2 way up. When you unfold, you will have long strips of fringe tissue.

Select a base shape for your ornament. We used a small gift box here but there are many options including molded cardboard ornaments in shapes like 3-D stars and ornate classic ornament designs, and even simple glass bulbs.

If your shape doesn’t have a loop for hanging, punch 2 small holes in the corner and string some cord, twine or yarn through and tie.

Assemble box and glue openings to secure.

Select a design. For this one we did a three color stripe pattern with solid sides. Lightly glue your first small piece of fringe overlapping all three edges.

Continue with gluing overlapping strips.

Until your entire surface is covered.

Trim the excess along the edges.

Then start the same process along each side. If your are doing solid color panels, it could save time to create larger sheets of fringe and then simply cut shapes to fit each panel.

Get as close to the string as possible. And you are finished.

Now you can experiment with trying any pattern you can dream up. This pink, gold and peach version also leaves some of the panels un=fringed for added texture.

I’m so either appalled or admiring that you didn’t fill them with tooth-rotters! 😀
