Fabric Friday

We’ve had Halloween on our minds all week, and although this Teagan White for Birch Organic Fabrics, Fort Firefly, Fireflies Mineral fabric is not exactly for Halloween, the butterflies definitely remind me of a favorite butterfly costume I had as a kid. The fall colors on this fabric are light enough that no matter what you make with it you could still show it off in spring and summer. A swaddle for a new baby perhaps?

To enter for a chance to win one yard of Teagan White for Birch Organic Fabrics, Fort Firefly, Fireflies Mineral tell us a Halloween costume you remember wearing as a kid. Tweet, Stumble, or share on Facebook and leave another comment letting us know. Come back every day for new entries. We’ll randomly select a winner and announce right here next Friday.

Find out who won last week’s Fabric Friday after the jump…

One of my favorite costumes as a kid was Princess Leia. I had long hair so my mom braided it and I rocked the buns! Got to love a princess who can hold her own. πŸ™‚

I was “witch hazel” which amounted to your standard witch costume. I’m still not sure why the “hazel” was always appended to the costume whenever we talked about it. I cannot figure out what to dress my toddler as this year!

I made this clown costume when I was young by attaching a bunch of fabric circles to a jumpsuit. Not the best looking thing, but at least it was homemade!

Ooooh, too bad… When I was young, we didn’t had Halloween here in Belgium, but I remember being dressed as a mummy at carnaval! Does that count? πŸ™‚

I grew up in a poor family so most of our Halloween costumes were homemade. I went as a dalmatian several years. My mom would put my hair up in pigtails and draw black dots on my face. I’d pair that with a white and black polka dot dress.

My mom made a lot of our costumes as a kid-my favorite was this beautiful Belle dress, I even had yellow gloves to match!

My talented mom made me a coke can costume. I must have worn it at least three years in a row.

We’re not celebrating halloween here, I remember as a child we had a bag of women clothes and always created our own costumes, it was great

My mom would buy me a boxed costume when I was a kid in the 1970s and it usually was a princess. One year it was a witch and that was my favorite. The mask even had a wart on the nose!

No halloween here, but we did have carnival in February, dressing up, but no “spooky” theme. Of all my costumes I wore as a kid there’s only the ladybug one I remember… Craving it really, making myself a ladybug skirt as we speak, ha! ;-P

Back in the 60’s, our family didn’t have money to buy costumes so we had to make up our own. This year my grandsons are going as legos.

I think My fave costume I had as a kid was a princess one my mom made out of her wedding dress. It was so awesome. I played with it until it fell apart.

We usually had last minute costumes — we probably dressed as Hobos nearly every year. I made lots of fun costumes for my son when he was young though — one favorite was the year I made a Hammer costume for him and a Nail costume for his friend who went trick-or-treating with him.

My mom always made our costumes by hand and came up with the most creative stuff. One time I was a bag of M&Ms! She painted a giant old dog food bag to look like the candy wrapper, cut arm and leg holes, and topped me off with a red hat.

I can’t remember any of mine, but I remember the Winnie the Pooh costume my sister wore one year – and then used as pajamas for months afterwards!

When i was a child, before about 8 years old, we lived on a farm. i do not actually remember any Halloween then. When we moved to Houston, however, i loved Halloween. I never got to dress up though. My mama made me stay home and hand out candy. i loved seeing all the children dressed up.
