I had my first taste of apple pie moonshine at Jaime’s house and it was deeeelicious. She brought some back from Nashville (same trip as when she asked locals to share their favorite Southernisms) and it was so good I could even taste the crust. Since that glorious moment nothing has quite quenched my thirst in the same way, that is until moonshine and I were reunited again thanks to Sidewalk Shoes’ Apple Moonshine Recipe. Start out by grabbing your nearest bathtub. Kidding! This recipe is so easy to make right in your kitchen.

When Jain from A Quiet Life emailed me and asked me if I wanted to participate in apple week with The Novel Bakers, I enthusiastically said yes. My CSA was giving me apples every week and I had more than I knew what to do with. Jain was happy and said that perhaps I could infuse some gin or something. Ahh….Jain, you know me so well. I do have a well documented love for infused alcohol.
But I have to give credit to Mr. Sidewalk Shoes for this one. It was completely his idea to make some apple pie moonshine from some Tennessee Moonshine. Not just any Tennessee Moonshine, but Short Mountain Tennessee Moonshine. Now, you can buy apple pie moonshine, Short Mountain has their own version, but it’s fun and easy to make your own!
So, I googled Apple Pie Moonshine. Turns out there are as many ways to make as there are to drink it. I finally settled on my version, which would include apple cider, apple juice, brown and white sugar, cinnamon sticks and Tennessee Moonshine.
You will not believe how quick and easy it is to make this! Warning – this tastes so good, you do not realize how strong it is. We love to stir it into hot apple cider, into tea, poured over ice cream and just sipped. It makes a great Christmas gift.
Apple Pie Moonshine
4 cups apple cider (preferably organic)
4 cups apple juice (preferably organic)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
1 (750 ml) bottle of moonshine
Combine the cider, juice, sugars, and cinnamon sticks in a large saucepan. Over medium high heat, bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let it cool to room temperature. After it is cooled, stir in the moonshine.
That’s it! You’ve just made apple pie moonshine. Pour it into sterile mason jars (straining through cheesecloth if you wish), you can also had a cinnamon stick to each jar if you would like.
It’s ready to drink now, but it gets even better with a little age on it.
This made about 2 and 1/2 quarts.
