Santorini Birdhouse Project

Santorini Birdhouse Project
The other day I took my three-year-old niece out for a day of crafting and gardening. We started out by heading to the nursery where we picked up poppies and veggies to plant in the garden. Then, we went to the craft store to pick up supplies. Anabelle picked out a small wooden birdhouse that was a grand total of fifty cents. Since they were so cute and ridiculously cheap we went ahead and picked out a few more. She painted a portion of them every possible shade of pink, and then helped me out with these by painting them all white. I added on the blue roofs to resemble the famous blue and white houses in Santorini. My brother-in-law helped us out with a bit of drilling, and thus the Santorini Birdhouse Project was born. Want to learn how to make it?

Pick out a few wooden birdhouses. You can pick out as many or as few as you’d like.

Paint them with acrylic paint and leave to dry.

Drill a hole in the top and bottom of the birdhouse. My birdhouses already had a hole at the top, so I just drilled a hole in the bottom. You want both holes to line up.

Lay out your birdhouses until you have them exactly as you want. I did three different rows for all of mine.

Thread twine through each row of birdhouses. Knot the end to keep them in place.

You can trim the excess twine at the bottom, or leave it hanging. Tie the three pieces of twine together at the top to hang.

If you find that your houses are swinging all over the place, you can hot glue them together with a dab of hot glue in the places where they touch.

I just returned from a trip to Greece and Santorini. It was beautiful! I love these bird houses and want to make them for my traveling companions. Do you know what color blue you used for the roof? It is perfect!
