Last Days of Summer Tank Top

Last Days of Summer Tank Top
Lately I have been gravitating towards more relaxed looks that revolve around breathable fabrics that don’t cling in the heat. This has put me on the hunt for a loose top that I can pair with pretty much anything. After a few weeks of looking for the perfect one, I got antsy and just made one of my own. I like to call this my Last Days of Summer Tank Top, but it can really work all year long. Faith is wearing it here with a cute pair of black pants, an Apolis market bag, and my new favorite pair of sandals ever. I’ve also worn this top with jean shorts and sandals for a day at the beach. This is a pretty simple afternoon project that can take only about thirty minutes to make. Let’s get started!

Learn how to make the Last Days of Summer Tank Top after the jump…

Last Days of Summer Tank Top

Pick out your fabric. The first time I used a Fabricworm linen, and then I used some shirting fabric I had on hand. The linen was really easy to work with, so I recommend starting with that if you’re new to sewing.

Fold an existing tank top, and lay it on the fold of the fabric. Cut out a front and back piece with about a 1/2″ of extra fabric all the way around. If you’d rather just cut two identical pieces, you can check out our Swing Summer Tank Top for tips on creating the neckline.

Now you should have your two pieces.

Unfold them and sew the pieces together. Don’t accidentally sew the armholes closed! Finish your seams by serging, sewing with a zig-zag, or cutting with pinking shears.

Fold the edges of the armholes and neckline down about 1/4″ and then fold it over again another 1/4″. Iron, pin, and sew.

What an easy way to make tank tops. I am going to try it this week. This should be really easy as I am an experienced sewer. I have been sewing ever since high school.
