When we were asked by Big Lots to take part in the National Decorate Your Home for the Holidays Challenge we were more than ready to hop on board. As you might be able to tell, we get pretty excited about decorating for the holidays.

For this challenge we were asked to use a $250 Big Lots gift card to give a space in a home a holiday makeover, which we will reveal over National Decorate Your Home for the Holidays Week #BIGHoliday (November 16th to the 22nd). Since my house is decked out with ghouls and goblins, we decided to give Colleen’s sister’s home a ’tis the season facelift. Colleen’s niece, Anabelle, was thrilled to help us out.

Getting a head start on decorating for the season can be a great way to ease the stress that comes with the mad dash of holiday shopping and celebrating. With our gift card in hand, we went straight to shopping and decorating.

We filled in about…15 minutes? We wanted to bring everything home!

We started with the small stuff first – ornaments, tinsel, glitter reindeer – the necessities. There were aisles upon aisles of decorations to choose from. I particularly loved their variety of wreaths and garlands. You could pick from wreaths that glistened with bows and ribbons, or more simple ones that were classic and natural. The Christmas tree and lights aisle should not be missed too. You can’t beat getting an artificial Christmas tree for under $100.

After we piled up the cart with holiday decorations, we made our way to the cozy home section to pick out a few more essentials (ahem, and chocolate cake mix) that would top off this winter wonderland in the making.

Here’s a peek at our loot – a beautiful plaid tablecloth, glittery gold ornaments, crisp white dishes, woodland garland, tasty candy canes for sweets, and a few more top secret items. Stay tuned for the big National Decorate Your Home for the Holidays Challenge reveal on November 16th!
