Cowgirl Farm Party

My pretty sister-in-law, Stevee, recently put together an adorable cowgirl farm birthday party for her daughter Joleen that is almost too cute for words. Her combination of shabby chic meets farm girl will have you saying, why didn’t I think of that?! The party was kicked off with a southern style brunch and then it was a full day of pony rides, tire swings, tractor trains and more. Happy birthday Jojo!

Along with planning amazing parties, Stevee has jumped on the blogging bandwagon with her blog, JSquared, and will tell you all about it.

Hmmm, Jojo’s daddy looks an awful lot like someone I know…

Since Joleen insisted upon a ‘cowgirl’ themed birthday party, I went with a shabby chic farm party and incorporated ‘cowgirl’ elements like cowgirl/boy hats, bandanas and pony rides. I think it was a success and I had oh-so-much fun planning such a girly party.

Since we wanted to beat the TN August heat, we started the party at 10am. At that hour, I thought a sort of brunch would be appropriate – so for food I went with a vanilla yogurt parfait in small mason jars with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and granola on the side – a yogurt parfait bar you could say.

I also served chicken and biscuits, lemonade, organic chocolate, strawberry and chocolate milk for the kiddos, and instead of cake, I opted for raspberry, peach and cherry pies.

All the plates, napkins and all that jazz came from Party City. Also, I went to TJMaxx and found items like the little pig, cake plates, gift bag stand, baskets, and even the gingham tablecloth. The hay bales came from Joannes and I even found all the fabric I used for my fabric garland there on sale.

The adorable bandanas you see on the kids (and myself) came from my awesome SIL, Jaime. She made them all from scratch using custom material bundle, ‘Pocket Full of Posies‘, which she ordered from Fabricworm.

At the party, I had many ask me where I purchased my flower arrangements. I actually made those myself. I found the cute mini metal troughs at a local salvage yard and the flowers I purchased at a wholesale flower shop in town. Wholesale flower shops are amazing for any party and I highly recommend finding one in your area. You’ll save so much money, trust me, and if you just like fresh flowers around your house, this is a much cheaper way to do it. One more thing – for tablecloths – besides the lace tablecloths, all the ones you see are ones that my grandmother hand-stitched. If you don’t have special ones like this, I would head to an antique store or thrift shop to find some – if they are little on the worn side, it will only add to charm.

As for the ‘Jojo’ sign – I have to give all the credit to my parents. I had the vision, but they are the ones who actually executed it. They went to one of their friend’s farms and found the old barn-wood (and even those old rustic horseshoes), cleaned it, put it together and then, my crafty mom created Jojo’s name in lasso rope. The star in place for the dot above the ‘j’ came from a local antique store.

Ok- that about wraps up the decor.

As for my blog, JSquared, I started it about a month ago and I’m enjoying myself and just trying to build it, write what I want to write about, and hopefully find a voice and direction. I’m not sure if it’s a blog about my life, crafts, cooking, party planning, decorating… maybe all of the above because I love it all. I have no idea. I’m starting it for myself. I need a passion outside of work and home. I’m not exactly sure where I want to take things, but I’m excited to see where it goes and I hope to reach and become friends with all the other cyber-mommies out there!

Here’s where you can find some of the items I used for the party:
Pie/cake stands or you can learn to make one here.
Berry baskets
Paper straws: brown and pink
Mason Jars
‘Happy Happy’ pie banner
Pink burlap string
Food signs
Teal bakers twine
Tractor stamp
Gift bag ‘thank you tags’

Such a cute party! Where did your mom buy the lasso rope to make the sign?
