We have been trying out some fun new craft supplies from X-ACTO and Elmer’s. Today we have a little tutorial for these super simple vases.Read on for how to make a cute new vase. It’s a great semi-handmade last-minute gift! And check out how sweet Clare’s own vase is after the jump!
Check out how simple this is…
1. Grab a few plain vases from your local craft store. Give them a wipe down to remove dirt.
2. Start drawing!
For this hand-drawn herringbone, we drew vertical lines with alternating heights at the top.Focus!
3. Draw your herringbone lines all the way around. Take breaks to avoid finger cramps.
4. Don’t forget to sign it.
When your paint is fully dry in a few minutes, spray with polyurethane spray according to manufacturers instructions. Add flowers!
You are finished!
The Elmer’s Painters caught my eye! The colors look very vivid and bright, perfect for detailing! I’d love to make some picture frames with cute quotes and designs on them with these painters.
Ohhh like the exacto shapes and cutter with mat just what I need to tackle my next quilt.and my girls would love the painters, I think I would let them decorate their own hand mirror and maybe brush!
Ohh the paint pens have my heart all a pitter patter! I would be making all the lovely people in my life a cup or plate with a little message just for them to remind how wonderful they are.
I spy some glue dots in the bin…those are an invention from god himself! My faves!
Those painter pens would be a great addition to our household craft drawer! Your vases are beautiful!
I don’t know if I could win, postage might be too expensive, but I love the painters, the vase would make a lovely and very personal teacher’s gift.
Ooh, I love the paint pens and the shape templates! I’m always just free-handing shapes and they don’t always work out so well … 😉
If I only had to pick one, I’d pick the paint pens. I’m dying to draw/write on some picture frames.
Ohhhh a self healing mat…I currently use an old cutting board.
I’ve had my eye on the Painters pens for a while now… They look awesome! I have several cool crafts in mind where lots of those goodies could be put to great use! Art and craft supplies are a some of my very favorite things! Without them how would we all blog??? 😉
I’d love to try out the x-acto shape templates for one of my paper projects.

I would love to have the tape and the paint pens (I need a new x-acto knife!!). But I would make a new spin on your vases by masking off shapes and painting the negative space to create a cool pattern on vases, frames, and anything else I can get my hands on. Oh! Or maybe some monogrammed things!! So much inspiration in this or basket!! Thanks for the great post!!
I am a self proclaimed “Gadget Geek”! I love this stuff. We have used the paint pens to paint wooden monster trucks from a Lowe’s Build and Grow. They are really easy for kids to use and no mess. Bonus!
Thank you for the chance to win.
Oh, definitely the paint pens! So many options with those, I can’t imagine what I’d do first!

The self healing mat caught my eye! The whole bin is awesome!
I think the paint pens would be my favorite, but my kids would go nuts over the masking tape. My son uses tape to decorate his bike, make toy cell phones, hang his hand-printed music, and a million other things.
The exacto knife and cutting mat. I’m going to be putting together some shadow boxes soon and they would help out immensely in setting up the pictures in the background
I want to make that vase you made! I also want to know what the permanent dot runner does!
I love the paint markers. My mind is going crazy with ideas!
I am loving the painter’s pens. I think I could dream up quite a few fun projects with those at my disposal 🙂

Im a huge fan of exacto knives and cutting mats and use them so.much. but I don’t have much experience with glass painting supplies. Those elmers painters look too fun, and i’d love to diy design some mugs/teacups or dessert plates to gift for christmas along with homemade tea bags!

ooh dot runner- great for making cards
I make all kinds of displays for my Thirty One display tables. The cutting mat would really help me like things up a notch!
Ooh… I’ve been doodling some lacey designs for some time now; it would be fun (albeit painstaking fun, lol) to cut those designs out using the exacto knives and cutting mats (and the handy dandy Modge Podge!!) and put the lacey cut outs on vases. 🙂
Obviously the pretty pink color caught my eye! I also like the design templates!
The exact basic shapes templates look very usable in my craft stash. I have not seen them in the stores. And, since hot pink is my favorite color ALL the color coordinated items would be fabulous and invigorating.
