Airstream Getaways, Pioneertown, and Pool Parties: Friday I’m in Love

When I told my friends I was spending my anniversary in a trailer park they were not amused. He is taking you where?! They asked. Let me explain… I have a soft spot for pretty much all things vintage, so a restored airstream trailer near a ghost town/old western movie set, with antique shopping galore was right up my alley. You see, I had been dying to check it out so I went by myself a few months ago for a one night getaway.

This was my trailer at Kate’s Lazy Desert in Landers, CA. Ever heard of Landers? It’s right near beautiful Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. It’s remote enough to make you feel like you’ve completely left the concrete jungle behind you, but close enough to pretty much anything you’d need. I loved this little nook of love so much I had to bring my sweetheart back to check it out. Which brings me to last Friday…

Did I mention there is antique shopping? I spent a good couple hours going around here.

Route 62 was my favorite. There was milk glass, amber glass, vintage blankets, sheets, kitchen utensils, the cutest cake tins, clothes for me, clothes for baby, clothes for you, oh the list goes on.

And this Scrabble piece of magic sat quietly on the shelf, like a haiku that just about summed it all up.

Then we made our way to Pioneertown in Yucca Valley during the day. We had gone the night before to Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace to see the Cold War Kids play and were blown away by delicious BBQ and drinks at the historic wild west watering hole in the mountains.

It was like taking a step back in time. This was a movie set back in the day, but rumor has it that it’s going to be a happening music hub sometime very soon.

And it’s totally haunted. Kidding…kind of.

The trip however, was not complete without making a pit stop at the Ace Hotel Palm Springs on our way back. It is becoming a desert trip ritual since Jaime and I went on our adventure.

All in all, I’d have to say it was one darn good Friday. What special places do you like to go to for a one night getaway?

Hi there! I have been a longtime fan of Prudent Baby and was delighted to see this post. My husband is in the Military and is stationed near Yucca Valley, where we live. It is a calm, peaceful, family-friendly place that has surprised us by morphing into a place we call home. Thank you for posting this, shedding light on a sweet, lovely, picturesque little part of the world =)
