Flower Friday: Day of the Dead Flower Skull

Flower Friday: Day of the Dead Flower Skull
This was one of those projects that turned out a bit different better than I expected. I started out making this with the idea of a sweet looking calavera in mind. Then, I made something that Jaime and Jacinda both agreed was “pretty and terrifying.” Bingo!

Grab yourself a handful of fresh blooms and let’s get to work making this amazingly spooky centerpiece/Halloween wedding bouquet (maybe?).

Check out the tutorial after the jump…

Start out by picking up a foam skull online or at your local Halloween or craft store.

Cut your flowers off the stems and heat up your glue gun. For this project you want a variety of small and large flowers. Large flowers are great for filling up space on the back of the skull, while the small flowers are perfect for the detailed spaces on the face.

I started with the eyes…

and worked out from there. Hot glue the flowers in place as you go, but try not to use a ton of glue for each flower, or you run the risk of melting the foam.

Cover the skull and set it out as a colorful, and yet terrifying, centerpiece. I stored mine in the refrigerator to keep it fresh for the next day.

I kinda feel like if this was the last post ever on this website, I would be ok with this living at the top of the page for infinity. So pretty, so terrifying. It’s perfect. Love Jacinda
