Cookie Cutter Bird Feeder

Let’s get outdoors and start crafting some fun projects with the kids, what do you say? The three sisters, Jamie, Jodie and Jennifer, from Eighteen25 are going to get us started with their cookie cutter bird feeders. What I love most about this project is that kids of any age can join in on the fun. If you are looking for more kids crafts check out their yarn baskets and corn syrup paintings. The friendship bracelet kits make a great birthday gift for a special friend.

Call over the kiddos and get started on making your own Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders…

Hello there!
We are Jennifer, Jamie and Jodie from Eighteen25 and we are so happy to be guest posting at Prudent Baby! We hope you enjoy this fun craft + come visit us sometime! One of our most favorite things to do during the summer is have craft days with the kids. So we are happy to be sharing what we made recently. The kids thought they were fun to make (so did we) and they turned out so cute!!

Bird Feeders

what you’ll need:
-3/4 cup birdseed (we got the seed for small birds at wal-mart)
-1/4 cup water
-1 small envelope of knox gelatine
-twine or string
-cookie cutters, molds or mason jar lids
-wax paper

what you’ll do:
-mix together the envelope of gelatine with 1/4 cup of water and bring to a simmer while stirring. continue stirring until the gelatine is dissolved.
-remove from heat and let cool for a minute.
-stir in the 3/4 cup birdseed. adding a little more if there is liquid still in the bottom of the pan.
-lay your cookie cutters out on wax paper and fill half way with the birdseed mixture.

-cut your twine, knot the end and push the knot down into your birdseed.
-continue filling with birdseed, covering the end of your twine and knot.
-push the birdseed evenly into the cookie cutter until it’s full.

-allow them to dry overnight. turning them over every now and then.
-remove from the cookie cutters and hang them in your trees.
-then wait by the window to watch for your first guest.

Did this make 2 feeders? This is a really great idea. I can’t wait to try it out with my kids.

I don’t see a ingredients mixture. There is a picture of some gelatin and birdseed and twine. Do you mix the gelatin in accordance with the box directions and them just pour in birdfeed? New at this

We did this today with my daughter and her friend (4yrs) and they loved it. Can’t wait to hang them tomorrow morning and watch the birds flock to the yard 🙂 Thanks for posting.

Has anyone made these in the summertime? I’d like to do these as a camp activity, but I’m wondering how well the Knox gelatin would hold up to outdoor heat.

Does anyone know how long these keep once they’re made? I’d like to give them as gifts, but wonder if the gelatin goes funny after a while.

Such a cute bird feeder activity! I just made a few with my clients, I happen to be a speech therapist and we had such a great time! I like to do simple arts and crafts activities to promote language development.

Hi. We tried to make these cute bird feeders but for some reason they fell apart when we tried to get them out of the cookie cutters. Not sure what we did wrong? Can anyone help please?
