Scrap-busting DIY: Craft Punch Concentration

This DIY memory game is a fun way to bust through some fabric scraps (or you can easily do it with just paper). All you need is a craft punch and a little time.

These mini-hearts were the obvious choice for Valentine’s day, but a big version with a simple circle or square punch would be so fun any time of year.

How to Make a Fabric Scrap Concentration Game with Your Craft Punch

First gather your supplies. You’ll need some cardstock (I used pages from last year’s calendar), a sharp knife or paper cutter, some glue, a craft punch, and some fabric scraps.

I made mini-concentration game pieces because my craft punch is really small. So I started by cutting my card stock into 1/5″ strips.

Then I cut each strip into 3″ sections, scored the center (at 1.5″) and folded in half:

Next step was to punch heart shapes into one flap of my game pieces:

I made 36 game pieces (for a 6X6 board):

Next step, I made a little window so I could trace the shape of the game pieces onto my fabric scraps before cutting, just to make sure I got two pieces that really matched.

Then I cut out my fabric scrap pairs

Next step is to glue the fabric to the solid side of the game piece, then glue the punched side down.

I repeated to create all the pieces, set them under a heavy book to flatten, then set them free to dry overnight.

Time to play!

Probably would be smart to put them in a box or bag of sorts, but just for fun I stacked them up and tied with a bow.

Hello, I’m from Bulgaria to Greece a small country. I follow your blog with interest and everything worked. Unfortunately in my country not part of the materials. I wanted to tell you about the link in red and white you use. This says to us Martenitsa. On 1 March each year, everyone wears a red white these links. There is a legend about
At the end of his life the ruler of Khan Kubrat called his five sons, and commanded them not to divide, to be always together, they may not enemies to attack and enslave.
Past is time Khan died. Then attacking Bulgars and Khazars captured daughter Kubrat – Hubata. The leader of the Huns Khan Ashina sons offered to recognize him as their ruler. Only thus would release their sister and to leave the land. Han sons were put to hard test.
Eldest son Bayan recognize Hazar rule and stayed with his sister captive. Others are not complied with the charge of the old inn and went to seek free land for their tribes. One of the brothers headed north and the other Asparuh Altsek Kuber and drove south. Before the split, the brothers secretly agreed with Hubata and remain at Bayan Khan Ashina until they find vacant land. Then Asparuh would send them a bird tied with golden thread of the foot, which would signal to flee. Then the brothers set off, leaving the captive girl and Bayan in the hands of evil Ashina.
Not long after Hubata flew in a dove, who had a golden thread of the foot. As was understood Hubata and Bayan Khan escaped and reached the worst the Danube. Do not know what to do. Only a bird could show them the way, and they knew how to pass on the other side. Bayan took the white thread that tied Hubata foot of the dove. Released the bird to fly, but at that moment appeared persecutors of the Hun tribe, who began to shoot. Bayan was wounded by an arrow and the beginning of the thread which holds, red with his blood. At this point the other side of the river appeared Asparuh with his soldiers. Hun saw it fled.
Asparuh helped Hubata and Bayan to pass the river and took them to their soldiers. Bayan took the thread of his white and tied with a red edge. Decorating each of its wars with a piece of this sacred thread. Then Asparuh stood before the army and confessed that he and his brothers did not heed his father and so have paid with their blood their disunity. Charged red and white thread never breaks because this bloody thread will forever connect the Bulgarians. Since the first of March all Bulgarians are decorated with red and white martenici bearing their health, happiness and success.

These are delightful! Can you tell me where I can get the thick baker’s twine you used? Mine is much thinner and not as nice. Thanks!
