To kick off our Beginner’s Guide to Crafting with Clay, I’m going to show you how to make a clay dish in any size in under thirty minutes. It’s crazy easy, I promise. As a beginner it might be best to start with something small, like this ring dish, and then work your way up from there. Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to glitz it up with gold too.

Roll your clay out until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.
Place your oven safe dish upside down on the clay.
Use a knife to cut around the edge to make your shape.
Flip the dish back over and set the clay circle inside. Press down lightly to form the bowl.
Place the dish and clay in the oven. Follow the instructions on the clay packaging for time and temperature. I put mine in for fifteen minutes at 275 degrees.
Remove from the oven and let the clay cool before taking it out of the oven safe dish.
Once cooled, fill the dish with all your pretty jewelry or knick knacks.
Make it shiny and gold by following our How to Gold Leaf Anything the Easy Way tutorial.
