One Minute/One Cookie: How to Make a Single Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookie in A Minute

Sometimes you just want a cookie. Not a whole batch of cookies, just one single delicious chocolatey treat. Well now you can have a single microwave cookie, in just a couple minutes with this recipe for microwave cookie dough!
Image of Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Oh, how we love making ourselves single serve treats in cups and mugs and plates using our microwave. Our Cup of Coffee Cake (in under five minutes) is our most popular post of all time, and 2-Minute French Toast in a Cup isn’t far behind. Now we have a recipe for microwave cookie dough to make yourself a one-minute chocolate chip microwave cookie on a plate. This could not be easier.

Now, a microwave cookie is not going to have a crispy browned exterior like a baked cookie, so don’t expect it to be exactly the same as your mom’s famous recipe. But what it does have is ooey, gooey, melty chocolate chips. And this microwave cookie dough can be ready in a minute. And you can make just one at a time. So it’s got some things going for it.

Don’t forget to check out Jaime’s Lazy Late Night Cooking Corner for more microwaveable treats like, Single Serve Cinnamon Roll, Rice Krispy Treat, Blueberry Cobbler, and Strawberry Shortcake for Two.

Let’s get to making a chocolate chip microwave cookie on a plate…

Chocolate Chip Microwave Cookie Recipe

Use a mug or bowl to mix your microwave cookie dough ingredients, and a plate to cook your microwave cookie.

Start with one tablespoon of butter. Soften it in the microwave for 6-8 seconds. Add a teaspoon and a half of sugar and a teaspoon of packed brown sugar (I used light brown). Stir them together with a fork until light and fluffy. Add a single drop of vanilla and mix again.

Now you want to add some egg. You only need a teaspoon or two of egg, so you can crack one, stir it up, and seperate out your bit for the cookie and use the rest to scramble. Or, if you are quickly becoming a microwave-baking-afficiando like myself, you could keep a carton of egg whites on hand, and just add a teaspoon from there. Mix.

Now add 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour, a pinch of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine.

Now add your chocolate chips and stir again. Remove your cookie dough to a plate, just dollop it in the center.

Microwave for 40 seconds. If it doesn’t look done yet, add another five seconds at a time. My microwave does my cookie perfectly in 45 seconds.

Put a scoop of ice cream on the top and you have a perfect dessert, snack, meal, etc. Whenever I make cookies, I freeze some dough in balls so I can always bake up some on demand. If I only need one, I usually go for the toaster over, but I’m sure the microwave would work.

Instant cookies… that’s just dangerous. Don’t want to wake up… cookie, baby won’t nap… cookie, why are the kids still awake… cookie!

i tried tripling this recipe to make 3 cookies. the first one spread all over the plate and only cooked in the middle (i clearly cannot count). when i put it back in the micro to cook it more, the microwave started sparking so i had to turn it off. i ate the rest of the batter. overall, a great success.

Glad to have found you through Sacramento Bee 4/24/12 food section via Chicago Tribune Cindy Dampier. She didn’t post this but your coffeecake and her version (?) of single-serve/micro chilaquiles, quiche, and upside down cake. As a science who is a decent baker and ok cook, my micro-baking has been less than steller. “No Pudge” Brownies and egg dishes are dang simple, but love the portion control of it all. Plus little mess, immediate gratification, and no heating up a house in NC during the summer make these a must try. (Today we hit the asparagus festival in Stockton. Strawberry stand down the street is open, local asparagus is 99 cents a pound, we are so blessed with fresh produce. Hard to remember when I bought canned anything besides canned ‘maters or even frozen.) Thanks!

Just made one up. Very tasty, but 40 seconds overcooked it. Might abuse this just and just eat cookie dough…

Mine are coming out flat and kind of undercooked after even a minute. My kids like them but I am a bit disappointed, yours in the pic looks much better!

Thank you so much for this! I am in Japan and have been craving chocolate cookies, but we don’t have an oven in our tiny apartment! This has made my day.

My cookie turned out very cake-like. Fix to this? It was still good though!

I made this with my sister. It was yummy but a few hours later we have tummy aches…I was wondering if it happened to be just us or of we did something wrong, or if this happened to anyone else. We are worried that maybe we didn’t microwave it long enough and our egg wasn’t cooked enough…? Would that be a possibility? Thanks

Well, don’t worry! There are so many different things you can substitute for eggs! Just do a little searching on the internet. My friend uses some sort of yogurt (weird, I know, but she says it tastes good…) but there are MANY other options too! Of course, some may not work so you might have to do some trials before you find one you like. Good luck and I hope this helps!!
xx Ellie

You can use mashed banana instead of egg. It really works, and gives the cookie a REALLY nice, fruity sort of flavor.

i just made these with stevia, and dark chocolate chips. it turned out AMAZING. thanksss

i didnt put any egg into it. Im Afraid i might catch Salmonella if the eggs i buy contain it. AMAZING though the cookies 🙂

yo dog this shit is good!!!!!! but it takes way longer then 40 seconds to cook just saying. yolo swag thug life domo ymcmb

I just tried this and failed to a point where I’m almost crying. I followed the instructions like the bible (I’m not religious, maybe that’s where I went wrong).
By the end of the 40 seconds, the dough had spread out on the plate and didn’t cook at all, it was a liquid-y mess. It definitely needed more than 2 Tbs of flour.
Let’s just say I washed it down the sink, but I will never be able to wash down the shame.

i’m sorry it didnt’ work for you, i can’t say exactly why, but i can say that i love your comment. wash down the shame ha ha!

Did you use tablespoon where it said teaspoon? Or add too much egg? Other then that I can’t think of anything going wrong. Mine turned out well.

Wizard 101 Crown Generator

Today, I went to the beach front with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab
inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

Hahaha, that is hilarious! I hope her ear felt better after a while! 🙂

I tried this just now… I didn’t have chocolate chips though, so I added one tablespoon of cocoa powder instead and also added a huge lump of nutella in the middle of the dough before I microwaved it and it turned out to be awesome! It’s all fluffy and chewy and gooey with nutella in the middle. Thanks for the great recipe, cheers xx

Can I just say I found this and showed it to my 15 year old son. He is on his knees for you now. Ha ha ha! Great post… and yummy too!

I made this and it just turned into a huge pool of butter and ingredients and stuff in the microwave. Huge mess. Any idea why this would happen?

This did not work! I was left with a pile of sugary butter and a mound of half melted chocolate chips. 0 stars

Very nice post. I simply stumbled upon your blog and wished to mention that I have truly loved surfing around your weblog
posts. After all I’ll be subscribing on your rss feed and I’m hoping you write again very soon!

Just a few comments –
Keep in mind that all microwaves vary in power so this may take less time. If you use margarine instead of butter – it may be a little softer/cake like. I didn’t soften the butter as mine was soft to begin with. If your butter/margarine is soft and you microwave it it melts and will not be able to be creamed. This would make a difference in how your cookie turns out. Also make sure you use stick margarine/butter, tub margarine is too soft for this.

Thanks for a fun recipe! The students I work with LOVED it! I had one student try it without the chocolate chips and he gave it a 4.5 out of 5! That is huge accolades from him!

I made this and I put it in for 2:00 minutes and I almost burned my house down so I don’t like this recipe

Don’t lie no way you almost burned your home by making a cookie if that’s true your probably really really dumb or you just decided to leav it there for ten minutes and decided like an idiot to watch tv

Omg why are Zeke and miles being so rude just don’t comment if you don’t have anything good to say even though this recipie burned my cookie

Katie Fuller

2 gs bruh are you trying to be cool? 2 gs of weed for SWIM is way to fucking much like bruh do some research before talking about drugs

Yeah, add 2 grams of weed and see how that works out for you.
Just in case you didn’t actually know, that wouldn’t really do anything other than make the cookie taste like shit.
you have to make cannaoil or cannabutter with the weed before you can make an edible.

Gramma Kaye

Eating it right now. Delish! I doubled it and added 1/2 a small egg, stevia instead of sugar, and a little extra salt. Divided it and nuked them separately, exactly 1 min 45 sec, in my small microwave. Next time, since it doesn’t get crispy anyway, I’m going to try it as a mug cake. Thanks for the treat. For someone with a huge sweet tooth and no will power, this is just perfect for me!

mine turned into a cakey mess so I ate it with a spoon. still good though.

I did it it works i replaced eggs with oil and used just white. I wanted firm but chewy cookie so added extra table spoon of flour. I used coco powder instead of choclate chips added just tiny bit of salt and cinnamon and sprinkled in couple palm fulls if peacans. Then to make sure stuck together beed 1 table spoon of water. I had to try this so delicious

I tried it with cookie mix cookie dough (vegetable oil) and I microwaved it for 52 seconds. It came out nicely. 😀

Why would she put it in for 2 minutes your only supposed to put it in for 40-45 seconds God. Your cookie might have been smoking but not burning the house down

i made a few little tweaks by adding peanut butter instead of normal and using more brown sugar than white but do you use egg yolks or whites??

Ive made it with peanutbutter, oats, egg whites, sugar, flour, baking soada then a sprinkle of salt yum delicious

I don’t normally leave comments, but I had to ask if others have tried this as a gluten-free cookie. Also, the title to the recipe includes the words “In A Minute”. That usually means 60 seconds.

I’ve used this recipe SO many times! It is incredibly tasty! Sometimes I’ll leave out the egg and eat the dough! 😀
Thanks for sharing this!

1 tablespoon of flaxseed with 1 tablespoon of water pre heated in the microwave for 20 seconds substitutes for the egg. Another nice substitute is 1 tablespoon almond flour instead of 1 of the tablespoons for regular flour. Also, you can use cranberries instead of chocolate chips.

Cookie Cutter

What a quick recipe for a sweet-tooth person like me. However, I make oven-baked embossed cookies at home, and you know baking takes time. So, from now on, I don’t have to worry and work a lot, Lol. I will surely try this microwave cookies method.
Thank you for sharing

So, we did it. We made a microwave chocolate chip cookie and ate it, as well. We also learned in the process that cooking a single cookie only takes one minute, and that we can eat two McChoc chips in a single sitting (something to be proud of because they are delicious).
