The Best Basic Pizza Dough Recipe

pizza dough

Fall is my favorite time of year for a pizza party. It’s the coziest dinner for a family to make together on a cool Sunday evening. As an added bonus, when the ingredients are all lined up in pretty bowls, my kids are more likely to venture outside of their pizza comfort zone of sauce, cheese, and garlic. Last night, both Clare and Quinn discovered that they like mushrooms on pizza. I discovered that if I cover my pizza in arugula, it’s actually a salad!

Just kidding.

One key to a perfect pizza night is a no-fail pizza dough recipe. Where I grew up in Rhode Island, you can grab amazing pizza dough at every grocery store. There was little reason to make it from scratch. Here in Texas it’s harder to find so I make it at home with my no-nonsense, no-fail pizza dough recipe. Here it is… (more…)

The First Rule of Book Club: Let’s Talk About Book Club

book club suggestions

Last Spring I was lucky enough to fall into an invitation to join a book club. I have been in book clubs in the past and I have loved every single one, even the clubs that were thinly veiled excuses to drink wine with friends. Or maybe especially those. This particular book club however, includes a teacher, two journalists, and several writers. It’s legit. On top of that, each host prepares food and beverages to match the theme of the book. And on top of THAT, hosts come to the meeting with prepared questions, observations and discussion guides. This book club does not mess around. So all this is to say that the first week in December, we will be meeting to discuss my very first book selection. So much pressure! So what I need from you bookworms, is your suggestions for my debut book pick. What has knocked your nerdy socks off this year?

FRIDA KAHLO COSTUME

Hey, what’s up mamas? It’s Halloween week and maybe you’ve just finished preparing costumes for the littles and finally have 5 minutes to pull something together for yourself, Cinderella-style. Or perhaps you have been invited to chill with some grownups this weekend and need to come up with a costume fast. Here are 10 last-minute Halloween costumes we are loving for you. Most of them you can assemble with mostly what you have on hand and all without a pesky sewing machine, ha.

Haven’t had time to tweeze? Consider it a Halloween miracle and go with a fabulous Frida Kahlo look like Jaime did here (with her brows penciled in.) Add a shawl, jewelry, red lips and some silk flowers over parted hair.

Pull out your fave-beige and add some big doe-eyed makeup like this flirty Deer Costume by Hillary Gessner. You know that you have some Rudolph antlers in the dress-up bin.

Feeling truly… truly… truly outrageous? Jem and the Holograms costumes are going to be hot this Halloween. Pull out a pink dress, pink hair (wig or chalk) and Jem’s signature makeup and you will be a Halloween rock star… (more…)

Freezer Sriracha Breakfast Sandwiches Recipe

Freezer Sriracha Breakfast Sandwich RecipeSo, we all should eat breakfast, or so I have heard. I’ve also heard that sometimes we should also feed it to other members of our families. Well, to that end, I am obsessed with making and freezing a boatload of breakfast sandwiches a week or two in advance, so we can just whip them out and microwave them in the morning. It makes life easier for me, and it also ensures that my husband, who needs a lot of calories for his “diet” (he has that diet where you have to eat a lot of stuff to not waste away, sigh), and who also takes our kid to school every morning, has a filling breakfast at his disposal. Also, these are delicious with or without sriracha, but it makes him happy to have a little spice and it makes me happy to oblige.
