We are wild about hedgehogs here on Prudent Baby. Between Jaime’s Anthropologie measuring cups and the hedgehogette cupcakes I want to make (with the hedgehog measuring cups, of course), there will be hedgehogs coming out of our ears.
Hedgehogs are making a statement in home decor with pillows and clocks. They are strolling through the fashion world on onesies and sweaters, and kickin’ it on school desks as pencil holders and books. There’s no way to resist bringing hedgehogs into your life when you see how cute a real baby hedgehog can be.
The Hot Mess Sweatshirt Dress is not only stylish with the bubble skirt bottom, but is insanely comfortable. Throw it on when you’re running out to pick up the kids at school, or put on a pair of heels and a bow necklace for a night out. And…it will cost you about $10 to make. Let’s get started!

When I told my friends I was spending my anniversary in a trailer park they were not amused. He is taking you where?! They asked. Let me explain… I have a soft spot for pretty much all things vintage, so a restored airstream trailer near a ghost town/old western movie set, with antique shopping galore was right up my alley. You see, I had been dying to check it out so I went by myself a few months ago for a one night getaway.
This was my trailer at Kate’s Lazy Desert in Landers, CA. Ever heard of Landers? It’s right near beautiful Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. It’s remote enough to make you feel like you’ve completely left the concrete jungle behind you, but close enough to pretty much anything you’d need. I loved this little nook of love so much I had to bring my sweetheart back to check it out. Which brings me to last Friday…
Did I mention there is antique shopping? I spent a good couple hours going around here.
Route 62 was my favorite. There was milk glass, amber glass, vintage blankets, sheets, kitchen utensils, the cutest cake tins, clothes for me, clothes for baby, clothes for you, oh the list goes on.
And this Scrabble piece of magic sat quietly on the shelf, like a haiku that just about summed it all up.
Then we made our way to Pioneertown in Yucca Valley during the day. We had gone the night before to Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace to see the Cold War Kids play and were blown away by delicious BBQ and drinks at the historic wild west watering hole in the mountains.
It was like taking a step back in time. This was a movie set back in the day, but rumor has it that it’s going to be a happening music hub sometime very soon.
And it’s totally haunted. Kidding…kind of.
The trip however, was not complete without making a pit stop at the Ace Hotel Palm Springs on our way back. It is becoming a desert trip ritual since Jaime and I went on our adventure.
All in all, I’d have to say it was one darn good Friday. What special places do you like to go to for a one night getaway?
Do y’all love Spoonflower? I do, and it’s not just because that’s where I sell my fabric. I also love their weekly contest. I don’t always enter but I love seeing what everyone come up with when challenged with a theme. Last week designers were invited to create a sleeve for a rice or corn pillow. The kind that you heat in the microwave and then use on aches and pains. The art had to feature a cuddly critter and all instructions to sew up the removable sleeve. Our friend Sonya from Parlor helped me come up with this adorable raccoon version with TWO pillows. One for your head and one for your tum. Head over to Spoonflower to check out all the entries and vote for your favorite(s), ours I hope! Come back and leave a comment and next week we will pick one winner to receive our Cut and Sew Cuddly Raccoon Pillow fabric panel. It will also be available for sale to the public as soon as we test the pattern!
Are you ready to try Microwave Strawberry Shortcake for Two?
Greetings my lazy friends, welcome to episode three of Jaime’s Lazy Late Night Cooking Corner, the show where I whip up last-minute single serve microwave treats every Thursday while wearing my robe. Today we will be throwing together an easy-peasy strawberry shortcake with a few ingredients you are sure to have in your pantry. This recipe is perfect for two, or if you are like me, one really big strawberry shortcake perfect for gobbling during one episode of The Mindy Project.
How to make soap in silicone molds. It’s so fun and easy!
Spring will be here before we know it so it seems perfectly reasonable for us to share a how-to for the adorable ice cream-shaped soap that we made for Quinn’s Ice Cream Social Party this year. You can use any silicone mold or  candy mold, like these soft serve cones, to create some good clean fun in soap making for any holiday or occasion. Here’s how we made (or actually just molded) our own soap to include in our party favor bags. Adorable!
Read on for the easy steps for How to Make Soap using silicone soap molds. They really are the best soap molds for ease of use. (more…)
