For some reason, this year especially, my sweet tooth has been in full force around Valentine’s Day – if you couldn’t tell from my Sea Salt + Maple Bacon Chocolate Hearts or the delectable Deep Fried S’mores I devoured after Jaime made them. This got me thinking, what if you could do something extra special with roses for Valentine’s Day, like eat them.
Well, in fact you can and they are delicious. You could eat them alone, but they are kind of a rose explosion in your mouth so making them a garnish for desserts like ice cream or cake is even better. Toss a few in your glass of bubbling champagne!
Grab your bouquet and let’s get to work.

Hello friends! It’s Fat Tuesday and you know how I love a good play on words, so I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to share with you the ridiculous/delicious deep fried s’more recipe we’ve been perfecting here at the Curtis household. Through weeks of arduous experimentation I and my beleaguered, bes’mored husband have struggled through on your behalf, I have discovered the ideal ingredients for a fluffy, melty, chocolatey, gooey, yet also lightly crunchy and air-filled deep-fried confection.
It’s actually quite simple: Regular marshmallows are a no-go, it’s marshmallow fluff/creme all the way if you want a gooey marshmallow center without burning your sweet battered crust. Any traditional graham cracker will do you fine. Chocolate chips? Good. Hershey bars? Better. Nutella? OH, HECK YES. But the absolute most favorite take on the deep friend s’more, by leaps and bounds above all others, after an almost unanimous vote amongst the eight children and 10 adults in attendance at the first annual Curtis Superbowl Sunday S’more Smackdown, is… drumroll please…
…the deep fried butterfinger stuffed s’more. OH YES I DID. Behold it.
Yes, I remember my new year’s resolutions. But I also remember how to have some fun, hello. Do not try to resist it, get the simple recipe for deep fried s’mores after the jump… (more…)
Microwave Blueberry Cobbler in a Cup Recipe. YUM DAVID!
In this, our second episode of Jaime’s Lazy Late Night Cooking Corner, the new show where I whip up last-minute single serve microwave treats every Thursday while wearing my robe, we will be whipping up a super simple and extra delicious blueberry cobbler. The addition of quick cook oats adds a nice texture to counteract the gloppiness microwave cooking can sometimes have, and bonus: no egg needed! If you enjoy this Microwave Blueberry Cobbler in a Cup Recipe, check out our first episode, Single Serve Microwave Rice Krispy Treats, or try our oldies-but-so-goodies, the One Minute Cup of Coffee Cake, Single Microwave Cookie in a Minute, or French Toast in A Cup. Get the DIY microwave blueberry cobbler recipe in the video above and read the print version after the jump… (more…)
Around the holidays I was given a piece of maple bacon chocolate that I devoured in seconds. I couldn’t get it out of my head so I did what anyone would do, made about three batches for myself (I shared with friends too, kind of). These little maple bacon chocolate bite-size treats don’t take any special skills to make and can be prepared the night before. I’m planning on using the extras for “You’re Bacon Me Crazy” valentines, if I don’t eat them all first.

I can remember spending entire childhood days building forts and then hiding out in there playing, daydreaming, and masterminding ways to keep my siblings OUT, but they were persistent and I usually let them join me in my little hovel built of blankets and computer tape. Does anyone else remember computer tape? That makes me feel old, but guess what makes me feel like a kid again? Building a fort with the entire family on a lazy Sunday. If it’s been a while, we highly recommend blocking out a few hours with the littles and creating a cozy cave in which to spend the day. This was the perfect reminder for us, and the kids, that even though we are all getting older every day, it’s possible (and a blast) to Never Grow Up in our hearts.
This is beautiful! What is that velvet? Special delivery! A box of gorgeous new fabric for upcoming projects and general shelf occupation and creepy petting sessions arrived on my doorstep this week and I can’t wait to give y’all a little stash peek. First off, I finally caved and ordered some of the Anna Maria Horner, Field Study VELVETEEN, Spotted in the Crowd – Amelie. I saw someone use it as a quilt back recently and the luxurious idea of a quilt backed with leopard print velveteen made it impossible to resist.
Kokka Faces of Beauty in Pink & Turquoise. I just want to scoop up all of these little puppy faces in a basket and take them home but I’ll have to settle for this chic canvas from Kokka. What would you make with this cutenesss?
And lastly a little something for the cat ladies. You know who you are! Kokka Japan, Puti de Pome, Scaredy Cat Mustard (and pink and gray and turquoise) has vintage flair that has me thinking kitchen. right?
Stay tuned for this afternoon’s Fabric Friday and you could find a package of pretty fabric on your doorstep too!
In other news, Jaime and I, but especially Jaime, have embraced the new #VineApp with gusto. In addition to lovely little video vignettes of sweet Scarlet, she has started a series of Vine posts featuring a quilt block a day on her way to making scarlet a beautiful heart & linen quilt. If you haven’t jumped on the Vine bandwagon, you should check it (and us @PrudentBaby) out. People are doing some really cool stuff, and some surprising stuff, and some slightly irritating stuff. I kid. It’s all fun!
So now I feel like I should do something on Vine everyday too. But what? Anyone have a suggestion?
And lastly, thanks to peer pressure from Jill and Samantha, I’m headed to Blissdom here in DFW in March, and by “headed” I mean driving 10 minutes down the road to the next town over. Are you coming? I wanna know! I’ve heard it’s like one big inspirational hug. Um, I could totally use one of those.
Have a nice weekend! Happy Superbowling, if you’re into that. If not, it’s a great time to go to run some errands and find the best parking.
