As you can tell from our Conversation Heart Coasters, we definitely have Valentine’s Day on our minds. Today, we have our hearts set on this DIY Studded Heart Sweatshirt that Stephanie from Henry Happened made. The surprise about this little number is that those studs are all iron-on! Which means you can have your Valentine’s Day outfit ready to go in one naptime.
These sweetheart coasters make a great conversation piece (har har) for Valentine’s Day, and they are also a fun and easy embroidery project. Making coasters in your embroidery machine is not difficult at all, it just takes a little knowledge and patience. Let me show you how to make these conversation heart coasters, and you can learn how simple it is to use your embroidery machine to make fun in-the-hoop projects. (more…)
This past week my boyfriend, Grant, and I spent a week in our favorite city, San Francisco. We first met five years ago in the charming city (awww) and most of our friends still live there, so it’s always nice to go back. First stop on the list was beautiful Baker Beach. The next few days were a packed with pretty sights from Dolores Park to the Ferry Building. We even managed to make a stop at my favorite candy store, Miette in Hayes Valley. I could spend hours in this store. We will be back soon San Francisco, I promise.
In other news, I’ve been completely obsessed with the song Is there Somebody Else by Modern Notions. Their debut album She was just released and I think I’ve had it on repeat since the moment I heard it. I’ve also started to play the mandolin and accordion with them!
Along with traveling to San Francisco and playing musica, there’s been a whole lot of crafting and pinning going on at Casa a la Jaime. This Dreamcatcher Valentine tutorial has caught my eye and reminds me that I’ve been dying to make the Doily Dreamcatcher Mobile.
When brainstorming nursery decor ideas it only seems natural to lean towards geometric shapes. After all, they are one of the first things we teach little ones. Start decorating by sewing him or her a beautiful DIY Triangle Quilt. Not much of a quilter? You can always buy this modern baby blanket.
Stack handmade colored blocks on your baby’s bookshelf and hang a geometric mobile in the room. Make the nursery feel cozier by placing a few triangle pillows on your rocking chair. Personally, my favorite pieces of triangle decor so far are these cool shelves you can hang on the wall.
While Jacinda was out here I tried out this super cute Friendship Bracelet-Style Hair Braid in her blonde locks. It only made sense to do it in her hair since we’re besties and all (jealous much, Jaime? Kidding!). If you’ve ever made embroidery floss friendship bracelets, you’ll notice this uses the same technique. Try it out this Valentine’s Day in red, pink, and white ribbon or yarn. I plan on sporting it with my favorite team’s colors (*cough* Go Niners *cough*) during the Super Bowl.

As much as I love to get lost for hours in a sewing project, it’s always nice to have a few quick backups. This 30-minute pleated dress only requires knit fabric and an existing shirt for a pattern. All those who are a bit weary of knits, this is a great beginner project for you. You can also find helpful tips in our How to Sew Knit Fabrics post. Jessica from Me Sew Crazy brings us this cute tutorial today. You may remember her How to Sew a Raincoat tutorial from a few weeks back.
It’s Friday! And I’m off to carpool and such looking like a hot mess but at least I have my favorite mug and bag to help me feel cute. Afterall, I can’t see my own face but my accessories are awesome (thanks family for being awesome gift givers.)
So how was your week? Yes, you are seeing this correctly, Quinn took to her stroller with the pinking sheers. I guess this tutorial is in my future. But really, why are three year olds so rude?
A bunch of my girlfriends are going nuts over Breville Juicers. Are you a juicer? What’s your favorite recipe? My parents pushed carrot-celery juice on us a little too hard when we were kids and it scarred me but I think I’m ready to give juicing another chance. No, not the ‘roids, sillies.
Today I learned that my brother and his family are coming to visit next month, at which time I will carry around this guy until my arms fall off. Auntie Jaci is coming for you Hank! That sounded more threatening than intended.
This week we did a project with The Honest Company and they sent over some samples. These biodegradable, disposable lumberjack diapers are my favorite. Also, how cute are baby butts?
And I sign off with a confession. We had Gordon’s 2nd Birthday Party this weekend. I made a cute banner, my cake plan was a bust, my activity was a flop. I took a few blurry photos. It was not my usual work. You know what though? It was a really fun party and I will always have this candle blowing face by which to remember it and that’s the best of all.
Here’s to a more organized, productive upcoming week but I can’t make any promises!
