Nautical Shorts

Way back in February, Terra from mama says sew, came to visit us here at Prudent Baby and shared her Retro Inspired Shirt Tutorial. Since I’m a huge fan of anything retro inspired (especially when it’s put on a little one) I had to ask her to pretty please come back and share these Nautical Shorts. They have such an old-timey, classic look to them.

While you’re cruising through mama says sew, make a stop at the girl’s Striped Circle Skirt tutorial and Shirred Bubble Romper. The Bow Front Maxi Dress is a special sewing project just for you!

Let’s start sewing up this Nautical Shorts cuteness…

Poofy buns, softy hearts, and straws gone wild: It’s Friday I’m in Love

Pinterest Love: Y’all were digging on these crochet hearts from Belle Amour.

Beautiful Thing I Read: I really enjoyed reading Oliver Sacks’ essay in the New York Review of Books titled The Bull on the Mountain (which I believe is an excerpt from his book A Leg to Stand On). The piece chronicles his near-death experience destroying his leg while on a solo hike in the hills above a Norwegian village. When he recounts the memories that ran through his head as he approached death, I found myself moved by the clarity with which he recalled his childhood garden in London. I had a thought appear in the back of my mind as I read, a strange hope that some day, when I am long gone and Scarlet is very old, that she might remember our garden in the same way. I found this thought very comforting.

Hairstyle I tried: This updo from Parlor Diary. Whaddya think?

Project we wished we had posted: Straw dispenser turned pencil dispenser! Genius! Spotted on etsy.

Thing I acquired and utterly adore: Well, I gave this to my hubs for his birthday and he adores it. It’s a Linus Roadster Sport Limited Edition. So pretty!

So, what have y’all been clicking on, cooking up, and crafting this week?

It only takes a few minutes, and the process is like a little science experiment your kids will love to watch.

Gathered “Pillowcase” Dress

Gathered Pillowcase DressYou’ve conquered the OG “Pillowcase” Dress, what’s next? This slight variation adds an elastic neckline and belt, giving the dress a more-fitted, gathered bodice. The scrunchie version! My mama sent me this zany vintage food fabric and the girls went ga-ga over it. They have been begging for their “food dress” every day so I knew this needed to be a quickie.

Gathered Pillowcase DressThis is a great way to turn a couple yards into a cute frock. If you’ve mastered the pillowcase dress, this will be a cinch! (more…)

Blue Steel, Super Heroes and CA or Bust: Friday I’m In Love

Jaime and Jacinda Prudent BabyWay that we amused ourselves: Yesterday Jaime shared a video how-to of her pretty new studio but earlier this week she emailed me this great photo that her camera had automatically snapped of her deep in frame-wall-creating-thought. She looked so inspired and also ridiculously good looking that I had to jump in front of my own studio wall and eat a disappearing ink pen. Kidding, I didn’t really eat it, it’s just a prop to make me look like I’m thinking really important creative thoughts too. Then I used my college degree in Graphic Design and photoshopped the two of us together in crafty bliss. This is what our long-distance relationship has come to, photoshopping ourselves together in photos. Sadness. But then there is this bit of great news!…

Poppy and Pinecone Left My Heart Print, Right: Mousehouse Kids Crafty Suitcase Tutorial

Crazy plan in the works: The Boneau Family is packing up the van and hitting the road next week. Dallas, Texas to Artesia, New Mexico (My husband’s home town) to Tucson, Arizona to San Diego, CA to my Jaime in LA, to Cedar City, Utah for my Sister-in-Law’s wedding to Durango to Santa Fe and HOME! Should be a wild ride! Where should we stay? What should we do? What is your best tip or toy for keeping 3 small children happy in the car for 2 weeks?

Pinterest pin you are loving: 3 at 12’s Confetti gift wrapping genius.

Fabric that caught my eye: The Rebekah Ginda for Birch Fabric Scamper collection is unisex perfection for a nursery. That Burrow print makes my heart hurt with it’s sweetness.

Funny thing my kid said:
Me: It’s a school day!
Quinn: It’s. A. Sleeping. Day. fingers back in mouth and… scene.
I hear ya sister, I need a sleeping day too.

Project I wish we had made: Superhero Masks from Cutesty Crafts with FREE template. I mean, I wish we had posted it but I really just wish I had made them because I really, really want them. So awesome.

My green thumb of jealousy: Exhibit A: Jacinda’s tomatoes… Exhibit B: Jaime’s tomatoes

No but really, Where should we stay? What should we do? What is your best tip or toy for keeping 3 small children happy in the car for 2 weeks?
