Cowgirl Farm Party

My pretty sister-in-law, Stevee, recently put together an adorable cowgirl farm birthday party for her daughter Joleen that is almost too cute for words. Her combination of shabby chic meets farm girl will have you saying, why didn’t I think of that?! The party was kicked off with a southern style brunch and then it was a full day of pony rides, tire swings, tractor trains and more. Happy birthday Jojo!

Along with planning amazing parties, Stevee has jumped on the blogging bandwagon with her blog, JSquared, and will tell you all about it.

Hmmm, Jojo’s daddy looks an awful lot like someone I know…

Keep reading to see more of Jojo’s Cowgirl Farm Party and find out where you can get all the birthday fixings after the jump. Take it away Stevee…

Do You YouTube?

Prudent Baby You Tube

You know that we love making videos for y’all, whether they are DIY’s, travel, or cooking, so we decided get a little personal last week and play around with some VLOGGING. Just a little peek into our daily lives. Since I’m in Texas and Jaime is in California, it’s also nice to see her pretty face every once in a while. Did you see our silliness? Or should I say my silliness and Jaime’s glamorous jet-setting? Or should I say my ragged side braid and Jaime’s lux curls? Or should I say my minivan banter and Jaime’s ACE Hotel pool banter? You get my point. Well if you didn’t see it, here ya go! Daily Vlogging from the Prudent Baby gals or should I say, daily vlogging until Jaime up and took a private plane to Santa Barbara and left me so depressed that I couldn’t even turn on my camera. I mean really, what could I possibly say that would be more interesting than a private plane? That Walmart is out of Primary Composition notebooks? Which they are FYI. Well, I hope you like the vids and if you do, please subscribe to our channel where we will be posting a brand new video every Thursday!

Subscribe to our YouTube Channel, leave a comment on the Momo about Town video

Laughs we are having: If have a hankering for some fast food, check out Daym Drops for the best dining reviews I’ve seen in… EVER. This 5 Guys review started a burger debate over on the Prudent Baby Facebook page.

And if that doesn’t make you laugh, maybe Rich Kids of Instagram will.

Photos we are taking: Speaking of Instagram. Did you hear that PrudentJaime and PrudentJacinda finally broke down and joined in the fun? Our lovely assistant ColleenasaurusRex can also be found snapping away.

Spaces we are sharing: My favorite spot in my home, my courtyard, was featured in The Hot Colors for 2013 and How to Use Them at Country Living.

Thing which I acquired that I am loving: Does you tech-y gear need a pretty new home for Fall? I’m in love with the gorgeous new Clare Rojas Laptop Sleeve. Learn more about the collection here.

So hey, back to the vlogging. We are curious about what you would like to see from us. More tutes, more interviews, more behind-the-scenes, more trips to exotic locals? (because we will totally do that for you, ha)  Or do you have any specific questions that you would like us to answer in our upcoming vlog posts? We are your puppets, we shall dance for you.

Tres Leches Honeycomb Cake Recipe & Tutorial

Every year for his birthday my dearest Prudent Husband, Carleton, presents me with a new cake challenge. Angel food cakes have fallen and devil’s food cakes have been devoured, but the challenge and the presentation have always been fun for both of us. This year he selected the always-delectable Mexican specialty Tres Leches. Tres leches cake gets it’s name from the “three milks” in which the spongy cake is soaked to create the totally unique sticky-sweet sensation that makes this cake so beloved.

You will usually see tres leches presented as a sheet cake with a maraschino cherry or twenty piled on top, but I wanted to try something different, so I turned it inside out, stacked the layers three-high, and complimented the cinnamon-vanilla flavor with honey drizzled on top of a crumbling of his favorite homemade Honeycomb Candy (so easy and fun to make, learn how here). I was concerned a super-moist cake like this might not lend itself to layering, but as you can see, it turned out beautifully. And deliciously.

Tres leches cake is time consuming (but not difficult) to make, and the results are so very, very worth the effort. Get the Tres Leches Honeycomb Cake recipe after the jump…

DIY Travel Lap Tray

Note: This tray has not been tested for safety. Use at your own risk.DIY lap tray

Between road-trips, carpools and a million errands, kids spend many hours of their life buckled up in the car. Our recent Summer road-trip inspired me to create a DIY Lap Tray that could work for crafts, activities, snacks and even a nap on-the-go. Now that I have one made for Clare, I want to make one for everyone, including myself!

The Circus, Beehives, and Cowgirls: It’s Friday I’m in Love

Where I was last week: BLOGHER 12! Woo! My new friend Marcy has a write up and a few pictures from our long weekend in New York City and what I lovingly called Spanxapalooza, on her blog The Glamourous Life Association.

Thing I enjoyed reading: This article on Jezebel about Nail Art, and how it is a distinctly and awesomely feminine art form.

Embroidery patterns of the week: Anna Maria Horner Machine Embroidery Designs! Gah!! Want!

And here’s me giving a mini beehive a try. Tutorial found here:

What we were cooking this week: Grilled pizza. It’s our summer favorite. Scarlet loves to assemble it, we love to grill it and eat it. Get our easiest pizza sauce recipe and tutorial here.

Fabric I’m in love with: I spent a day making 27 cowgirl bandanas for my little niecey’s 3rd birthday party. I ordered a bunch of Fabricworm Custom Bundles – this is “pocket full of posies.” Each pattern is cuter than the last!

How to Fix a Plunging Neckline

Plunging necklines can be a total pain, especially when the kids are still young and most of your day consists of bending down and picking up (a far less attractive version of the bend and snap). Adding a tank underneath is usually my go-to, but in this 100 degree weather the thought of any more layers screams certain death. Okay, maybe a little dramatic, but I think we can all agree there are times when we want a little extra something’ somethin’ to help cover up.

Anshu, from Blooms and Bugs, first graced us with her presence with the Summertime Jumper tutorial. She is back now to show us how quick and easy it is to fix a plunging neckline with scrap fabrics. Make sure to also take note of her Maxi Dress tutorial for you and the reversible baby dress and fresh fruit applique skirt for your mini me.
