How to Make Origami Hearts

Since the beginning of January I have been on the hunt for adorable Valentine’s Day decor that does not feel too…loud. By this I mean I wanted to challenge myself by bringing in other colors (instead of just red and pink) and to find subtle ways to say I love you. When I found this Origami Heart tutorial at Harujion Designs I knew I just had to try it. These hearts are so easy to make that I went a little crazy and have placed them all around my home. I’ve even set a few aside to hide in shirt pockets, books and other various places to be little I’m thinking of you surprises on Valentine’s Day. While you are checking out Harujion Designs make sure to take a peek at the Origami Wall Decor and the adorable Valentine’s Day Heart Pouch Tutorial.

I Heart Donuts

We heart donuts. Scarlet and I made the minis above last year on Valentine’s Day, and as I was digging up the pictures miss nosy-pants started losing her mind begging to make donuts again. I wish I could upload the audio file of her wailing “i want doooooonnuuuuuts!” Jeesh. So this year she wanted to take it to the next level by making heart-shaped donuts. I don’t have a heart-shaped donut pan (does this exist?), so we went into experiment-mode with some sinfully delicious deep-fried chocolate cake donuts, like little love bombs.

Let me tell you how we made heart shaped donuts after the jump… (more…)

Scrap-busting DIY: Craft Punch Concentration

This DIY memory game is a fun way to bust through some fabric scraps (or you can easily do it with just paper). All you need is a craft punch and a little time.

These mini-hearts were the obvious choice for Valentine’s day, but a big version with a simple circle or square punch would be so fun any time of year.

Four Candy-Free Valentine’s Day Card Ideas (With Free Printables)

Here’s four totally fresh Valentine’s Day card ideas that are super sweet, yet candy free.

Scarlet’s favorite is definitely a little jar of glitter, with a topper that says “You Make the World Sparkle.”

Or how about some bubbles that say “You Blow My Mind?”

My favorite are these cute band aids (kids really love band-aids, don’t they?) that say “You Make Me Feel Better.”

Or crayons (perhaps heart-shaped crayons?) that say “You Color My World.”

All you need to make these easy valentine’s cards and pack them up for school parties are some 4″ cello bags, glue dots, and our free printables.

LINK LOVE

What a week! We are loving the new Prudent Baby and it seems like almost everything is up and running. Phew! Thank you for your sweet words, It means so much to us. With that said, we are pretty wiped and ready for the weekend but first, here is some loveliness we found this week.

These sweet madeleine mini bloomers from Coletterie are perfect for Valentine’s Day canoodling. I met Sarai at Quilt Market where she was promoting her new book, The Colette Sewing Handbook and gorgeous patterns. She is as stylish and lovely as you would expect.

These DIY sprinkles are blowing my mind. Hello leftover royal icing!

Crushing on this monster bag from Bloesem Kid. My favorite part? The stripes, which are hand-painted using Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape. Love a good Semi-DIY!

This technique is a simple and gorgeous way to top your cupcakes. Make your next tea party a stunner.

I want someone to make me a phone case like this.

A DIY pleated skirt for all the zipper-phobes.

The fact that I asked Santa to bring me a woodburning tool now makes perfect sense.

If you caught us on facebook this week, you saw that the prudent mamas and prudent daughters spent a lovely weekend in LA visiting with friends, getting crafty  and experiencing the magic of Disneyland.

And then I came home to the marvelously whimsical book, Extra Yarn. A must-have for any crafty mama to read to ‘lil ones.

Have you had a chance to go poking around the new navigation here on Prudent Baby? I can’t stop going back and looking at the projects and our tiny baby models over the years. Maybe you will find a something back in our archives to dive into this weekend. Leave a comment on an oldie-but-goodie that you discover. We love when you say hi. Yeah you, pretty lady. Ok, I’m officially delirious. xoxo
