How to Make a Snack Bag & Silhouette in Action!

We love our snack bags! It’s awesome not to see all those plastic bags get trashed but most importantly (ha) we get to look at a pretty little scrap of fabric while we nosh. These are really fun to make because it’s an easy scrap-busting project and the embellishment options are endless! I was inspired to try out the new interfacing from Silhouette to create an applique for one bag. I made a sweet ribbon bow for the other.

The Craft Room Redesign Project: The Recovered Chair!

BEFORE:

I told you all about the Craft Room Redesign Project, then I asked for your advice on my thrifty finds that I’ve been scooping up from goodwill, thrift stores, ebay, craigslist, and also this chair I found abandoned on the side of the road. I thought about recovering it myself, but it looked like a pretty daunting project and many of y’all were being hardcore enablers in the comments – telling me I saved so much by thrifting all this stuff that I could splurge and get it recovered professionally. Well, that’s what I did.

How to Paint Brass Finished Finds

There’s a few tricks to re-painting brass finished items, but overall it’s easy peasy. Imagine what you could do with cheapo thrift store brass light fixtures! Find out how to repaint brass after the jump…

What do you think of the red? Have you re-painted anything brass or brass-finished? Tell us abuot it in the comments, or post a picture on facebook. You could win some adorbs ueklele fabric!

Our Backyard "Farm" Year Two!

Planting time is here!

Last year Scarlet and I went nuts and planted all sorts of delicious fruits, veggies, and herbs willy-nilly all over the garden. It was a magical spring and summer of pure mother-daughter-nature joy. Check it out here and here.

This year I had planned to create a raised bed (learn how from Jacinda here) and create an orderly garden of delicious bounty blooming on schedule throughout the summer, but I, umm, couldn’t quite pull it together.

Instead we just went at it with a little more knowledge and a lot more seeds – tilling, fertilizing, and sowing to our hearts’ content. Not much to show for it yet, but we should start to see some sprouts in the next ten days. This week’s rain is our friend, though the birds I once loved to listen to are not. Find out what we’ve planted and see some before pics after the jump.

Are y’all planning backyard farms this year? Got any tips? Any must-tries? Any never-do-that’s? Any hilar stories of garden catastrophes? Share them in the comments, you just might walk away with some adorbs beachmod ukelele fabric to make some kneepads or somethin’ with…

Need your Advice!

We moved the girls into a shared bedroom this past weekend. It’s going ok. They fall asleep eventually, and isn’t that half the fun of sharing a room with your sister… chatting and getting into a little mischief?
But enough of the parenting business, let’s move on to more important things like fabric and decorating!

The bedroom already has gorgeous DIY (Thanks awesome MIL!) ceiling to floor curtains in Jessica Jones Amusement Park, Fireworks  and the walls are a light peachy pink. Now I want to make some bedding. Not everything matchy-matchy but maybe some fitted sheets and a few throw pillows. These girlies already LOVE their pillows. So that’s where I need your help. What fabric(s) should we add to the room?

Here are a few that I like. What do you think? Maybe too coordinated? Any other suggestions?
