Fat Quarter Apron Slideshow!

EEEEKKK! Aren’t these all so pretty? As are the prudent mamas (and grandmamas and kiddos) wearing ’em. We received hundreds of entries to our first competition: The Fat Quarter Apron Contest. It was very exciting for us and hopefully fun for you. Next time we’ve decided we’ll need reader voting, because it was so hard to choose that we had to implement a scoring system just to narrow it down to one winner. We’ll announce soon, but in the meantime take a look at 100 (that’s all i could fit in one slideshow) of the entries!

Show these Prudent Mamas some love in the comments, and claim your apron too! Remember, you could win some luscious yarn!

FRIDAY {SURPRISE} PRIZE!

This week’s fave commenter will be receiving a set of bow tie hardware including slider, clasp, and bow tie clip, so they can use our tute and Make a Bow Tie.

So this week’s winner is Amber on the Bias Tape Table Runner post, just because she made us laugh with her comment: Why is it whenever I see a table runner I automatically get visions of miniature cartoon people running on it like a treadmill? It must be this getting-dark-at-4-o’clock nonsense already effecting my brain…

Now whenever I look at my table I see the same thing. Amber, please use the contact form to send us your address and we will send out your bow tie hardware kit. Winners have five days to contact us before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.

Now, The Season of Cozy is upon is, so we’re celebrating by giving away some snuggly yarn! This is one skein of Bamboo Ewe yarn (55% viscose from bamboo and 45% wool – extra cozy) in Twilight from Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller.

Use it to whip up one of our pretty Crochet Wreaths!

To enter, leave your comments on any and all posts between now and next Friday. We’ll pick our favorite and announce it Friday afternoon. And hey, I just want to say THANK YOU for your comments, they make us want to keep going.

GIVEAWAY: An Awesome Book of Thanks!

I can tell you without reservation that this treasure is my favorite children’s book of all time.  I cried with happiness the first time I read it.  An Awesome Book of Thanks by Dallas Clayton is so full of pure joy at being alive, with adorable illustrations and a lyrical tone reminiscent of Dr Suess, with a modern edge.  This is a story of Thankfulness, for “big things like gigantic dino machines and small things and all things that fall in between.” It’s so appropriate as the holiday approaches and I’m buying copies for all my friends with children (and a few without children). Take a look at a some of my favorite pages.

I love it so much I asked the author if we could write about it, and he is sharing with us FIVE COPIES to give to thankful Prudent Baby readers. So to enter this giveaway, we ask you to share something crafty that you are thankful for. I am thankful for washable markersfusible tapemod podge, and the occasional extra-long nap time.

I asked the author of this magical book, Dallas Clayton, what crafty things he was thankful for and here’s what he said: I’m thankful for cutting my teeth in the DIY world of making things by hand. No matter how large my operation gets, or how many books I print I could still spend hours upon hours getting lost in folding paper samples, screen printing, letter-presses and sewing. There’s nothing better than the satisfaction of creating something from start to finish and being able to share it with the world.

Dallas, we love a man who crafts!  Thank you for this lovely book.  So, readers, I hope you are inspired to be a little extra thankful today.  Go ahead a leave a comment with your crafty thanks anytime between now and midnight next Wednesday, November 17th.  Come back every day for a new entry. Tweet, Stumble, and/or share the giveaway on facebook by clicking “like” below and leave us another comment each time letting us know for an additional entry. We will select five winners at random and send them their amazing books.  Also check out Dallas’ first book: An Awesome Book, or go ahead and order An Awesome Book of Thanks!, and see more of his magical vision at VeryAwesomeWorld.com.

Simplicity Deluxe Rotary Cutting & Embossing Machine – Bias Tape Eureka!

I know, the GIVEAWAY is over and you didn’t win. lame. And now we’re back with another cool thing that the Rotary Cutting Machine can do even though you don’t have one. rude. But I just can’t help myself, you must know! Because pretty soon I am just going to be able to lay on the floor eating Halloween candy while my various contraptions make beautiful bias tape from start to finish and I can’t keep that information to myself because I’m a giver. But no, I won’t give you my Rotary Cutting Machine, it is my BFF, or at least my FWB

Ok, so this is really just a slight variation on Jaime’s awesome How to Make Bias Tape Tutorial so you want to be familiar with that first… but here’s what I did to turn a fat quarter of vintage fabric (read: an 18″x22″ scrap of an old sheet) into 16 feet of purdy bias tape in no time flat.

And don’t forget to leave us a comment because you might win a nifty set of bow tie hardware. Have we convinced you to make bias tape yet? Are you inspired to find some old sheets for cheap and sell them by the fat quarter at a 5000% mark-up? Did your grandparents have these sheets?
