Crafter’s Wishlist – Jacinda Edition

Many of us are scaling back our holiday shopping this year, less material goods, more handmade (yay!) but maybe this is the year that you (or someone you love) is planning to invest in your craft. So we Prudent Mamas are here to share some of our favorite crafty gifts and gadgets. Some of these items we own and can’t live without, some were kindly sent to us for review (we’ve only included them if we LOVE them), and some of them we are dreaming of finding under the tree ourselves. So if you are looking for a few items to add to the ol’ list, maybe these ideas will help. Just direct your loved ones to Prudent Baby for gift ideas, and be sure to tell them to say hello in the comments. They could win some glitter.

Brother 5234PRW Project Runway 4-Thread Freearm Serger
Jaime and I will be introducing many new serger tutorials in the New Year on this bad-boy. It’s an investment for sure, but from our sewing machine experience, you can’t go wrong with Brother products. There is a special offer which includes a mail-in rebate and a dealer discount on the Brother site Black Friday blowout sale right now!

Silhouette Digital Cutting Tool
I’m sure a Silhouette is at the top of many of your shopping lists this year. I have just been crazy for mine and there are so many techniques that I haven’t even tried. If you suspect that someone might be slipping one under the tree for you, make sure they order here from Prudent Baby and enter the code “prudent” at checkout to get your machine for $199.00 ($100 savings) plus a roll of transfer paper, a roll of vinyl and the Home Decor CD for free! But act fast because this offer is only good until November 30th!

If this is the year that you plan to invest in a high-quality camera, Jaime and I are huge champions of Canon cameras such as the EOS 60D and the Rebel. Personally, I’m hoping for a Fuji Instax 210 under the tree, complete with a TON of film so I can shoot away. I’ve seen so many creative people, like Rachel, having a blast with their instant cameras!

But enough of about the fancy gifties that fill our dreams, let’s talk about some goodies that won’t break the bank.

A box of fancy baking supplies from Bake it Pretty would be a sweet treat on Christmas Morning. I’d like some of these cupcake liners, adorable cookie cutters and this too-cute chocolate mold.

When I stopped by the Simplicity booth at Quilt Market to check out the new goods, I was introduced to a slew of beautiful trims like these from Cynthia Rawley. Having received a box of trimmy goodness from my friend Jaime for my birthday, I can tell you that this is just about the most fun gift ever.

And of course no Prudent Baby Wishlist would be complete without a copy of Prudent Advice: Lessons for my baby daughter (A life list for every woman). It is truly magnificent.

Some sparkly Zebra Pen Sarasa Metallics are stocking stuffing perfection.

As are the amazing Flower Frill Templates from Clover. I saw them in action at Quilt Market and I WANT WANT WANT!!

And I can’t help but throw in a little something for the crafty tots. Calafant sent us one of their newest creations, Mermaid Cove, and we had an unbelievable time decorating and assembling. We immediately added more of these marvelous kits to our personal wishlist. She was so proud that she had to show off her underwater creation to her bestie.

And because books are just about my favorite gifts to give or receive, here are a few on my own wishlist.

Pattern by Orla Kiely
A collection of beautiful patterns by design goddess Orla Kiely that you can print out via CD and use for all of your personal crafty projects.

Need I say more?

Wee Wonderfuls: 24 Dolls to Sew and Love
What little girl wouldn’t love one of these precious dolls made by someone who loves them?

But this booklist could easily get out of hand, maybe books need a wishlist of their own?

Please leave us a comment and let us know what material goodies you are hoping for this year. A great answer might win you a bunch of sparkly glitter fabulosity.

Stay tuned for Jaime’s wishlist in just a bit!

Giveaway: Alloy Jewelry Heart of Gold Necklace!

We love a piece of jewelry that celebrates your children with sweetness, charm, and style. Wouldn’t this make a perfect holiday treat for yourself or maybe grandma? Well lovely prudent ladies, we are giving away on Heart of Gold Necklace from our sponsor Alloy Jewelry! You’ll be able to customize it with up to 18 letters for your little bean or beans. Here’s the details:

This is the perfect necklace for those who love the look of mixed metals. It is truly representitive of Alloy Jewelry’s style and shows that “mommy jewelry” can be artisan and tasteful! The heart is Rose Gold Vermeil plating over Thai Silver and is slightly domed to fit snug in the domed disc. The disc is 19 mm (a bit smaller than a US quarter) and is domed and the edges are hammered to give texture.

The artist who handmakes each of these gorgeous pieces is named Leah. Alloy Jewelry came about after the birth of her second son. She had been doing freelance editing for a publishing company and found it extremely hard to sit down in front of a computer to work after being exhausted from caring for a 2 year-old and an infant all day. With much encouragement from her dear family and friends, she decided to ditch editing and start selling her personalized creations. She instantly LOVED sitting down to “work” and would sneak away every quiet moment to complete orders.

As long as she can remember, Leah’s father has been dragging her into antique stores across Vermont. She remembers her resistance to these adventures subsiding as she began to notice that each antique store had at least one glass case of historic, interesting, and breathtakingly beautiful estate jewelry. Now, upon entering every antique store she possibly can (completely voluntarily), she finds herself admiring the antique broaches, rings, and earrings and wonders what the person who once owned them was like.

Alloy Jewelry is set apart from simply being categorized as “mommy jewelry”. Yes, it is personalized and hand-stamped, but it’s tasteful designs make each piece an artisan work of wearable art. The mixture of metals and classic, simple, yet beautiful designs are inspired by Leah’s love of antiques and their timelessness.

I am inspired by Leah’s conviction to follow her heart and I wish her all the success in the world. So to enter this giveaway, take a look at the Alloy Jewelry shop, then come back here and leave a comment telling us which piece is your fave. Also tell us if you could follow your heart, where it would take you. I love the Sterling Bar Initial Necklace pictured above, and if I could follow my heart this morning, I think it would take me to a frothy cappuccino at a teensy iron table on the Champs Elysees with Carleton & Scarlet.

Leave your comment between now and midnight next Tuesday, November 30th. Come back every day for a new entry. Tweet, Stumble, and/or share the giveaway on facebook by clicking “like” below and leave us another comment each time letting us know for an additional entry. We will select one winner using random.org and send off their necklace! Now follow your heart…

FRIDAY {SURPRISE} PRIZE

The gorgeous Bamboo Ewe yarn (55% viscose from bamboo and 45% wool – extra cozy) in Twilight from Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller goes to…

Wee Granny Cathy who said…“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fat quarter aprons!
I’d need one of these quarters just to make a pocket! I come from a long line of short, fluffy women, so a full yard is more like what I use! These are darn cute pockets, however!”

I think I like Cathy’s comment the most because as I was looking through the photos I was thinking… “Daaaamn! Those are some svelte mamas we have here on Prudent Baby”

Cathy, please use the contact form to send us your address and we will send out your yarn. Winners have five days to contact us before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.
