We have our biggest GIVEAWAY to date coming on Thursday!! I can’t tell you what it is but it’s AWESOME. I’ve been playing with one and it’s totally addictive. I can’t even give you a clue because then you might start guessing and then I might just spill it. Ok, the picture above is a clue but don’t guess because I might get in trouble. But make sure you stop by and enter on Thursday. This prize is going to give you months worth of child-ignoring entertainment, I swear.
Rag Edge Blanket – The Easiest Finish
Little S has figured out that momma knows how to sew stuff and has started making demands. One is teensy baby-size blankets for her dollies. I made some smaller versions of the Simple Snuggly Baby Blanket with minkee scraps, but then she made a request for a two sided all-pink cotton extravanganza. Inspired by the decorative stitching on Jacinda’s Portable Tea Party Set, I did a little rag-edged version. I don’t normally love the look of rag-edged stuff, but now that I’ve done it, I’m a total fan.
Enjoy your blanket, creepy baby. This wouldn’t make for a great human blanket, but it’s perfect for dolls, or even placemats or a tablecloth. It’s crazy easy and a great way to use any scraps you have piling up.

How to Make Double Welt Cord
What is double welt cord you ask? Why would I want to make that? Ok, it’s for upholstery. I am sure you’ve had some item of furniture you wanted to have recovered, maybe a hand-me-down from grandma or a thrift store find. Then you found out how much it cost and you were like, dude, I could just buy a new one for that price. Enter this tutorial. It’s actually quite easy to make your own double welt cord, AND once you know how to do it you can totally recover anything.

How to Ice a Cake

We can’t believe it’s been a year. We’ve had so much fun. So we thought, what better way to celebrate than… a trip to Mexico without our husbands and kids! And then our backup plan was…Â a DIY on icing a birthday cake! Hmn, doesn’t seem like such a worthy replacement for that trip anymore. Regardless, if you are a mom, baking a cake has come up. And if you are more of the “DIY” type than the “swing-by-the-bakery” type, this little walk-though might come in handy.

Thursday {SURPRISE} PRIZE!
We’re mixing things up this week because Friday is a VERY SPECIAL DAY, so this week we’re giving away our prize for best comment a day early. Our winner receives this train-errific fat quarter from our lovely sponsor Fabricworm.
And the winner is…Margaret C from Thread, Ink and Me who said:
No it’s not sexist – DD LOVES trains too, and regularly chuffs her way around!! You should check out episodes of “Chuggington” on the BBC IPlayer – they have a girl train, and a proper one, not like the subserviant ones on Thomas the Tank Engine.
It’s good to know this fabric will be loved and also I love the concept of subservient trains. Margaret, use our Contact Form to send us your address and we’ll ship your prize off! Winners have five days to contact us before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.
Now guess what?! Remember when I confessed that I am a glue junkie? And I said “if you work for Aleene’s feel free to send me a giant box of glue”? Well, they did! And now I’m sharing it with you. So leave a comment on any post between now and next Friday, when we’ll pick our fave and announce it right here. If it’s you, I’ll be sending your way this awesome Aleene’s Tacky Pack with FIVE glue-tastic bottles of sticky joy!
XOXO. See you TOMORROW for the BIG DAY!
and P.S. if you work for Marc Jacobs feel free to send me a big box of purses. Thx.
Portable Tea Party
This morning I surprised the girls with a tea party linen set… placemats, napkins and a tablecloth. The whole thing is reversible…
And the best part? The tablecloth gathers up into a tidy little bag to contain all those tiny cups and treats and spoons.
If you have a gal between one and four years old, you KNOW what I’m talking about. These tea parties can get wild and before you know it, you have this on your hands!
This is a FUN project for experimenting with trims and decorative stitches because you really can’t go overboard. I mean, It’s a tea set! What’s more fancy than that!?!

A few of you have emailed asking out our playfood, most of it is Melissa and Doug brand and we highly recommend it. The cake stand was from Pier 1 Imports a while back.
And remember that the “best” comment of the week will win you that adorable train fabric!

Snap Wrap Dress Sewing Tutorial and Free Pattern
Remember when I showed you the Double Gauze Dress and asked if you wanted a full pattern and tute? The reponse was affirmative, so here it is. It’s definitely a bit different, but trust me, this way is much easier.
With a neck tie, there’s no worrying about getting the strap length justright, and with the snap closure, you can get it on and off without a zipper. And you’ve been clear that you’d rather just avoid the zippers if possible (we hear that).
I can’t wait to hear what you think and see some reader versions! I hope it lives up to the expectations and is simple to execute. Let me know in the comments! And in addition to dropping mad knowledge bombs on all of us Prudent Mamas, your comment could win you that train-tastic fat quarter up there on the left!
