Hello Sailor! DIY Grommet Tote

test

Carleton, Scarlet, and I are heading to the Caribbean on a Carnival cruise adventure this Thanksgiving, so I decided to make myself a nautical-themed tote and share the DIY with y’all.

It’s so much easier than it looks. The grommets and long drop on the shoulder make it extra helpful for lugging all your gear poolside or anywhere you are heading this fall. I even added some fun embroidery (I couldn’t resist this “Hello Sailor” pattern).

Flower Friday: Glass Ornament Vases

Flower Friday: Glass Ornament Vases
I live in a studio apartment and instead of walls I have a big wooden wardrobe that divides the bedroom from the living room/kitchen/office. I’ve found that hanging dried flower bouquets is a pretty way to decorate the back of the wardrobe, but the other day I decided to try something different with fresh flowers. I grabbed a few glass globe ornaments and turned them into flower vases. So pretty, right?

Flower Friday: Glass Ornament Vases
If I was throwing a dinner party I’d love to hang these above the table, or set a few near the window to have the sun shine through them. Pick a few flowers from the yard and let’s get started!

The Simplest Pumpkin Spice Scones

Pumpkin Spice Scone Recipe

Make these for breakfast (or dinner, or midnight snack) right now. Kevin’s Famous Scones is one of our most enduring popular recipes on Pretty Prudent (for over five years!). I’ve added a little pumpkin spice to it for the holidays and I can say, ’tis delicious.

Recycled T-Shirt Scarf Necklace

Man, I keep seeing these around and they are so gorgeous! But 50 bucks? Guess what, I made some and I’m going to show you how. You know what they cost? Zero dollars. I even feel like I earned money on these somehow.

I think it would be super fun to throw a party… a birthday party for a kid, a shower of some kind, or just a crafting party… and ask everyone to bring a couple old t-shirts. Then each person cuts his or t-shirt up, you hang all the strips on the wall or from a string, then everyone chooses from them to make themselves a T-Shirt scarf necklace! Super fun, super cheap, and with super stylish results. Would you throw a party like that?

Scarlet picked out her own colors and made herself this cutie! She loved it! Adding this to the list of potential gifts for hot mess mommies and kiddos.

5 Kid Foodie Classes to Recreate at Home

IMG_8654The Generations Resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya lives up to Karisma’s spectacular culinary reputation. As their guests, Clare, Quinn and I ate fabulous all-inclusive meals basically non-stop but the foodie wonderland didn’t stop there. Generations’ already phenomenal kids club, Eko Kids, just launched a new program, Little Eko Chefs,  where children 4-12 will be treated to hands-on cooking classes designed just for the littles, and celebrating the tastes and traditions both of this region of Mexico and all over the world. grinding cornWe had the opportunity to try all of the lessons, joined by Master Chef Jr, Alexander Weiss, and had such a blast that I want to share how you can recreate these foodies classes right at home. Of course, if you ever have the chance for the kids to try them on the Mayan Riviera, while you relax by your private balcony’s lap pool, that would work too.

Flower Friday: Teacup Flower Garnishes

Teacup Flower Garnishes (1 of 1)
For Flower Friday this week I wanted to share one of my favorite garnish ideas – teacup flowers. I drink a ridiculous amount of tea, and this is a way to make each cup a little extra special. Use teacup flower garnishes for a tea party, or when you are serving a cup of tea with dessert.
