Ally from Nail in the Coffee has a tutorial for you today with a little extra sass. She likes to call these her ‘Peg Bundy’ nails, and I think that pretty much sums it up. You will need three colors to do this, plus a matte top coat. You can check out what the matte finish looks like over black in her Dipped and Tipped nails. So stunning! I’m also crushing on her Tan Lines Nails and Lucky to Bedazzled Nails for summer.
My sister-in-law (and other BFF, besides Jacinda), Stevee, recently moved to LA and has been in a decorating frenzy, getting her new place all situated for my husband’s twin and my niece and nephew. She asked me to whip up some pillows for her, and I was happy to oblige.
I made several pillows for her using our How to Sew A Zipper Pillow tute (don’t fear the zipper friends, you can do this!) and some really fun machine patterns I found online…
as well as a few I made myself (hello, LIZ LEMON PILLOW)…

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that a few weeks ago I set out for a two week road trip by myself around Iceland. I had never been before, but after a few afternoons of swooning over these photos of Iceland, I booked a ticket and hoped the rest would fall into place. Thankfully, it did. In fact, it was by far one of the most incredible places I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Today seemed like the perfect day to share the complete Iceland itinerary, because it’s Icelandic Independence Day (and my birthday!).
In this complete Iceland Itinerary I will share places to see, sleep, stay, eat, and shop all around the beautiful country. I drove mostly on Route 1 (also called The Ring Road or Þjóðvegur 1) the entire trip. It was an incredibly easy drive, minus a small snow storm that lasted about twenty minutes. I’ll be starting with Reykjavik…
then heading to the West,
North,
East and South.
With helpful tips from my new friends at Tiny Iceland, Reykjavik Trading Co., and Promote Iceland, in only ten days I was able to see more waterfalls than I’ve ever seen, swim in hidden hot springs, climb volcanoes, and try foods I never thought I’d try. Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on all the details.
Check out the Complete Iceland Itinerary after the jump…
Start off your summer sewing with the DIY Peekaboo Toddler Tank created by Ashley from Cherished Bliss. Ashley will walk you through the steps for how to make this little beauty. After you’re done, you can embellish it with a French Pouf, and complete the look with a pair of DIY Ruffle Shorts.
To celebrate her 7th birthday, Clare invited a few friends on an adventure. An adventure which required floral crowns. Floral crowns that we could make fast and cheap, and cute of course! Here’s how Clare and I busted through 5 floral crowns in about an hour, for under $3 each. (more…)
Oh California, just when I think I can live without you I’m pulled back in. A few weeks ago Rick and I celebrated his birthday in style with a kid-free weekend in beautiful Carmel by the Sea, with accommodations provided by Hofsas House Hotel and “kid-free” provided by the best mother-in-law ever.
Can you and your sweetie get away for a day or two this Summer? You seriously need to make that happen. It was a blissful weekend of gourmet picnics, wine tasting, candlelit (literally) dinners, seaside watercolor painting, gallery browsing and leisurely coffee drinking; oh and cheese, so much cheese. If you live in California, like my beloved Jaime, Carmel by the Sea is the perfect road trip getaway. If you live in the Texas, like me, it’s the perfect refreshing breezy Summer escape, with or without the kids.
If I’m tempting you to book a room and pack your bags for a weekend this European-style city by the shore, here are my strong recommendations for your 3 day weekend in California’s Carmel by the Sea.
I use tissues. Therefore, I need boxes of tissues around my house. I’m not so in love with regular old patterned tissue boxes, so I’ve had it in mind to make some tissue box covers out of canvas, similar to those I’ve seen at the Ace Hotel in Portland, Palm Springs, and New York.
This week, I finally got down to business. It’s actually a fairly simple project, and I feel like my tissue boxes are now more attractive, for what it’s worth.
Whip up one of these canvas tissue box covers (or usually regular fabric and medium- or heavy- weight interfacing, to dress your tissues up as well.

There has definitely been a sewing bug going around the Pretty Prudent craft studios lately. I think it’s partly because of Jaime’s awesome new Fabricworm fabric, as well as the summer sunshine. When we saw this sewing tutorial for the summer frock on Very Homemade we asked Amber if she would pretty please share it with our readers. She said, yes!
Today Amber will walk you through the steps for how to create your own pattern for the dress and how to add the gathered neckline. How cute would this look with a pair of dyed saltwater flats and a Big Texas Hair Bow?
