Jammin’ with Jaime: Watermelon Jalapeño Jelly Recipe

Watermelon Jalapeño Jam Recipe
I think y’all may have noticed on facebook and instagram (@prudentjaime) that I have become obsessed with jam and jelly making this summer. Do you know the diff between jam and jelly? Jelly is made with fruit juice, while jam is made with whole fruit. The more you know…

Watermelon Jalapeño Jelly Recipe
Today we are making Watermelon Jalapeño Jelly. I adore watermelon (who doesn’t?), and have had a great crop of jalapeños in my backyard farm this season. I thought, what if I put them together and made a jelly? I asked my friend Erin what she thought of this idea, and she wondered what one might eat watermelon jalapeño jelly with? I thought this was a decent question so I asked Jacinda. Her answer was “a spoon.” Ha.

So I went to Texas to visit her, my suitcase half filled with various jams and jellies, and we experimented. This turned out to be my very favorite of all the jams and jellies I made this year! With it’s fresh-summer-taste and spicy bite, it was perfect on meat! So make some watermelon jalapeño jelly and serve it with barbecued meats or on a sandwich. And of course you could always pour it over some cream cheese and eat with crackers. Or spoons.

DIY Clouds and Stars Card

The other day I had to send out thank you cards and wasn’t feeling up to heading to the store to buy some, so I did what any logical person would do and made some of my own. I wanted to make a card that would feel totally unique, could be used for pretty much any occasion, and would make me smile if I pulled it out of an envelope – and thus the DIY Clouds and Stars Card was born. Once I figured out my design I was able to make a handful of them in an afternoon. Next time I think I’m going to use this marbling technique for the clouds, what do you think?

DIY Bento Tote

In preparation for heading back to school we are sharing this short and sweet Bento Tote tutorial with you from Nic Nacks. The bento tote is a convenient way to wrap up any little lunch, and can be tossed in the wash when it gets dirty. Take it out for picnics, weekend road trips, or for school lunches. While you’re at it, sew up a few reusable snack bags too. I love the idea of making a bunch to use as goodie bags for a party.

Don’t forget to head on over to Nic Nacks for more DIY projects, like the Industrial bookshelf (I definitely want to make for my home), tips for Plant potting made easier, and your complete Iceland Itinerary . I can’t promise you won’t be booking a flight by the end of that post.

School is almost in session, so let’s get started with the DIY Bento Tote after the jump…

One-Night Getaway: Ojai, California

Word on the street is that Ojai is the new Palm Springs, and after this trip I’m pretty sold. I tend to have a bit of a travel bug and one-night getaways are a favorite of mine for the fact that you feel like you are so much farther away from home than you really are. Ojai, California is your perfect mix of historical small town meets hip art community, with an overwhelming sense of rest and relaxation. It was a breath of fresh air after escaping the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

If you are thinking of planning a little escape for two or bringing the kids, Ojai is a destination you might just want to consider. Here is the scoop on where to eat, sleep, what to do, and more…

Where to Sleep: Stay a night in the beautiful Ojai Rancho Inn. Enjoy a relaxing dip in the pool during the day and heat up in the in-room jacuzzi at night. Don’t forget to catch a band playing on the stage in the back. Sit on a hay bale at a barn table with the other guests while sipping on a refreshing Irish Mule (Get the Irish Mule recipe here).

What to Do:  Start by taking a walk through downtown Ojai. Learn all about this historical town at the Ojai Valley Museum. Check out the art and eclectic array of stores down Ojai Avenue. At sunset take a bike ride down the Ojai Valley Trail which runs parallel to the main road – Ojai Avenue. Cut across to Ojai Avenue to enjoy a bite to eat for dinner.

Stop to smell the flowers…

Where to Eat: We started our trip with a Mexican lunch at Agave Marias.  After the bike ride we headed over for dinner at Feast Bistro. Keep your eye out for a celebrity or two, we sat right next to him here. The next day enjoy a POM-Mimosa and Fresh Made Quiche for breakfast at the Ojai Cafe Emporium.

Where to Drink: Indulge in some very tasty beverages at The Village Jester. Watch a local jazz band play while you munch on freshly popped, buttered popcorn from the movie theater next door.

Where to Play: Ojai is great for the kids too! Walk through downtown and take a stroll through Cluff Park. We saw a family cooling off in the public pool there (it took everything inside of me not to jump in). Head on over to Libbey Park to see their giant playground set. When we were there we got to check out a Yoga festival happening there too. The yarn bomb tree in the center of the park won me over pretty quickly.

Check out my one-night getaway in an Airstream in Yucca Valley, and plan a trip with your bestie using Jaime and Jacinda’s Get Rich Quick: Girls’ Weekend Guide.

DIY Washi Tape Popsicle Cards

The other day I was looking for a cute new way to make thank you cards and found these amazing summer popsicle cards on Omiyage Blogs. When I saw that they were made with washi tape my jaw dropped, they are so darn cute and so darn easy to make. I think I’ll be making the Washi Tape Cottage Cards very soon too.

While you have your washi tape out, learn how you can add words to it for labels with the Customize Your Washi Tape Tutorial. Add embellishments to your cards with Kirigami Flowers. They are one-hundred times easier than they look.

Grab your washi tape and check out the DIY Washi Tape Popsicle Cards after the jump…

Texas Modern Nursery in New Hampshire

Jacinda Boneau Pretty Prudent Texas Modern FabricJessica from Cymbidium Floral recently surprised me with these stunning photos of the nursery she has designed for her brand new baby girl, Ella Sage, using my Texas Modern fabric for the curtains and in the quilt along with other pretty coral prints. I love the big impact Texas Modern Sunsets makes on the curtains. Everything about this room is lovely. The turquoise accents and the neutral walls complete the color palette perfectly!

DIY Neon & Nude Shoes

We started our Neon & Nude series last week with the fun Neon & Nude Nail Art Tutorial. Have you tried it yet? This week we are sharing a quick and easy neonified makeover you can do to pretty much any pair of shoes. The tricky thing about painting the rubber on your shoes is keeping the paint on after a while. With a helpful little sealer (you might already have at home) it shouldn’t be problem. I’ve been wearing mine and they still look as good as new.

Gather these supplies and let’s get started on the DIY Neon & Nude Shoes tutorial after the jump…
