Snacks for Kids + Recipes

Sometimes it’s hard to keep the pantry stocked with hungry kids around, try these four-minute homemade potato chips for a quick snack.

Bake soft pretzels and make sunbutter to dip them in.

If you have lots of activities, a homemade hot pocket is a great choice for a more substantial snack that will last until dinner.

Homemade Cheez-its are healthier, mess free, and delicious.

A refreshing raspberry rose pop is perfect for cooling down after all the neighborhood playing.

Scrap busting granola bars are a semi-sweet option to power through a day of activities.

Pattern We Love: Gingham

Gingham is a classic pattern we often associate with our traditional picnic tablecloths. This year the summery print is making a statement in fashion and home decor.  Show off the fun pattern at a gingham birthday party, with the cutest gingham party hats. Wear a bright yellow gingham dress with Robin’s Egg Blue flats or heels. It will be the right mix of casual and dressy with a mid-century cut. Use gingham fabric to make the sweetest DIY gingham rainbow dresses for the girls, and put the gingham tunic and bloomers on Baby.

When the party has come to an end, hang your freshly washed clothes out to dry on the line with gingham clothespins. Then head inside for a cup of tea in your bold gingham kitchen.

How will you gingham this season?

Easy Summer MuuMuu: House-dress Tutorial and Free Pattern.

muu muu free pattern
As much as my girls love the beautiful prints on cotton dresses, they will typically gravitate to the the easy on-and-off of knit. They are independent young women on the go and just can’t be bothered with buttons and ties. Here is a dress that combines the beauty of cotton with the ease of stretch, in the form of an elastic neckline. With our muu muu free pattern the MuuMuu (or house-dress) has never looked so cute.

I can’t help but wonder if I could pull this off in grown-up size.

Springing into Summer Nail Art Tutorial

Lately, I have been painting my nails almost every few days. A little obsessed? Definitely. For someone that constantly wants to dye her hair or completely change her style day-to-day, this is the perfect alternative. One of my favorite places to go for nail-spiration is my friend Ally’s blog, Nail in the Coffee. She is always coming up with wonderfully unique nail designs, like her popular Beer Bottle Nails or her 24 Karat Gold Manicure (we’re talking real 24 karat gold, ladies). To this day, I aspire to master her Galaxy Nails.

We are very excited to share that Ally will be posting more nail tutorials on Pretty Prudent, starting with this easy-peasy Springing into Summer Nail Art Tutorial. Grab your friends and try them out!

Check out the tutorial after the jump…

DIY Pizza Box Pennant Banner makes Pizza Night Special

Brought to you by Annie’s Homegrown Rising Crust Pizza
Annie's Pizza NightWhen we were kids, Friday was Pizza Night. It was the only time our parents braved taking the 4 of us to a restaurant. Weekly topping arguments aside, I remember the tradition fondly. No rushing, no cleaning, just good food and good together time.
Annie's Pizza Night
Annie's Pizza NightIn my own family, Pizza Night had lost its charm. It was whatever night I’d run out of time and needed a quick dinner solution. It was frozen and came topped with preservative-laden mom-guilt.

Wouldn’t it be nice to Take Back the Pizza Night? Plan an easy dinner with a healthy version of the convenient frozen pizza? Make it an event. Use that time you saved cooking and cleaning to do something special with the kids.
Annie's Pizza NightLast night we baked up a delicious Annie’s Homegrown uncured pepperoni pizza, BBQ Chicken Pizza and fan-favorite Cheese Pizza and did a fun craft using the pizza box while they cooked. Viva la Pizza Night!

Sweets We Love: Sprinkles

I tend to believe that sprinkles are glitter’s less annoying, more delicious cousins. They work with any holiday or party since the options are endless. Spruce up a store-bought ice cream sandwich with a quick roll. Snack on marshmallow pops while the birthday girl opens her monogrammed present.

Create a sprinkled ornament garland to decorate your mantel. Use them to stripe a cake, because no party is complete without something striped. I love the idea of embellishing a sugar cube to add to my tea while I watch Downton Abbey.

Coat the rim of your glass, salt can’t be the only one having fun. Decorate Easter eggs with a little sprinkle for spring decor. Make chewing your nails a little more appetizing with a sprinkled manicure. Enjoy your cone a little more with sprinkles. Heck, go crazy and douse the ice cream in sprinkles too.

There are no rules, just eat more sugar.
