Here is another take on the ever popular garland as decor for a party or a bedroom. This is super simple – you don’t even need to know how to sew. Of course ours are elephant themed but you can make any shape you want, and the whole project comes in under an hour.
I can imagine butterflies, or owls, or trains, or butterflies AND owls AND trains. Or silhouettes of your whole family lined up in a row! Get the full Fabric Silhouette Garland tutorial after the jump…

DIY Checkbook Cover Part III
How do I follow Scarlet’s Amazing Indian Elephant Birthday? It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
But Prudent Baby must go on so I’ll jump right in.
Here is a fabric checkbook cover that I made using Jaime’s tutorial. I took her advice and slide 2 pieces of heavy interfacing into the slit on the inside at the very end then ironed it flat to activate the adhesive. It worked really well. I sent it to my mom as part of her birthday present! She loves it!
This fabric is pretty old, it’s from Alexander Henry and can be found here although the price is outrageous.

Swingy Summer Tank Top
Yesterday my little girl turned TWO! Daddy and I took the day off work and we all did some family gardening, visited the zoo, ate daddy’s famous coffee cake AND ice cream cake, and had an all around magical day. And Scarlet wore this “birthday shirt” I made her all day long. It’s easier then it looks, I promise.
I’ll share the full Swingy Summer Tank Top pattern with you after the jump!

Prudent Mama’s Easter Basket – 10 Favorite things!
How nice would it be to wake up to a basket of Prudent Mama-style goodies on Sunday morning? Are you listening Bunny? Here’s what I hope you have waiting for you, from my own personal stash of favorite things. What would you add to your “favorite things” Easter Basket? Maybe the new-ish Vampire Weekend CD and a spa gift-card? Oh but wait, we were talking about what YOU would add…
1. Martha Stewart LIVING What’s better then getting a new magazine in the mail? Nothing, that’s what.
2. SUNSET Magazine
3. A Good Book (now in paperback FYI!)
4. An amazing pair of fabric scissors (labeled “FABRIC ONLY!” just like mom)
5. Mrs. Meyer’s Lavender (or Geranium) dish soap. It makes washing dishes almost pleasant. Available at most Whole Foods type stores.
6. Fancy French Soap Eggs. Mine were from Brown & Hopkins Country Store which doesn’t sell them online, but if you’re ever in Chepachet, RI, you should stop in. It’s owned by my Aunt and and it’s very CUTE!
7. Washi Tape – I finally caved and got on this bandwagon. I was surprised at the diminutive rolls but it goes a long way!
8. A few vintage hankies – Ebay, estate sales or Grannie’s basement.
9. Fabric! (both by Anna Maria Horner, surprise!) here and here
10. And something sweet of course!
