World’s Greatest Play Kitchen Revealed

Ladies, I’m sorry I’ve been remiss in not revealing where I got Scarlet’s Red Play Kitchen …everytime it shows up in a post I get a flood of emails wondering where I got it and how much it cost.  So here’s the scoop…

I researched all the play kitchens in the entire universe and I have to say it paid off.  This kitchen is compact yet has everything a child wants in a mini-kitchen including a microwave, sink, fridge, oven, cabinets and even a phone!  This is the single best toy Scarlet ever received, and she’s played with it since about 11 months and still plays with it every single day.

It’s made by KidKraft and costs less then $150.  I’m not gonna lie, my husband DID NOT ENJOY assembling it, but he did get an extreme sense of pride when it was complete.  GO GET IT HERE: KidKraft Red Vintage Kitchen And if you have one, or have thoughts on this or other Play Kitchens, please share with us in the comments!

Nesting

Despite what looks like a perfectly pleasant Spring day, we are in hibernation. Blame it on the North Texas allergies, my undying love of leisure-wear or any of the options below…

We have been admiring our new Liberty of London lampshade in Clare’s room.

Brainstorming what we can do with all these file folders (besides filing.)

Wrapping up brown paper parcels of giveaway prizes!

And admiring our latest Goodwill find, a GIANT (and fabulous) relish tray, after all those regrets. $4!

What are you up to?

$10 DIY Sandbox

Hi, spring is in the air! It’s 90 degrees in LA this week so outdoor play is making a comeback big time. Enter the DIY sandbox.

Every kid loves playing with sand. If you live in a small place this DIY sandbox / sand table is a great solution, and also it’s cheap. I bought one plastic wreath box on clearance at Kmart for $5 and one bag of playsand from Toys R us for another $5. Pour sand in box. Add a few cheapo sand toys. Done.

Here is play sand but because it’s 50 pounds (enough to fill one wreath box) I imagine the shipping cost would be monstrous, you can also get it at most hardware stores.  Here is a set of two of the same boxes I got but anything with a lid that snaps closed would work. I made one last year from an under-bed storage box, but because the lid didn’t snap shut, water got in and moldiness ensued. I much prefer this solution. Scarlet is in heaven. She even insisted we all climb in.

This would also be a fun way to do a “treasure hunt” for a birthday party, or even to hide easter eggs in. Summer is coming YAY!

Alice Mania

I’m sure that y’all are loving the amazing Alice in Wonderland themed creativity that is flying around the web right now. Maybe you’ve seen it on a few little sites like here, and here and (one of my fav blogs) here.
One thing you are pretty much guaranteed to find at any “Alice” party is some kind of “EAT ME” emblazoned sweet treat. Here is our own version that “we” made for a Alice in Wonderland themed bridal shower thrown by our friend Erin. And by “we,” I mean “me”… plus Jaime, keeping me company, sitting on her counter, taste-testing and drinking Champagne.

Read more about the party details on Erin’s fabulous new blog.

Quick tip: If you are about to dive into decorating cookies with royal icing, it’s a great idea to do a sketch! It doesn’t have to be fancy, and it’s not set in stone, it just helps to have a plan of attack.

And those gorgeous fluted square cookie cutters can be found here. They are pricey but offer the largest size of any of the sets, are beautifully made and have both a fluted and straight side.
