So last week I posted my Top Five Hot Mess Mommy Tips and commenter Jaimie (who has a gorgeous name) said she liked the knit scarf in the picture.
Well, Jaimie, that made my day, because I MADE that scarf! It’s actually crochet and it took about 30 minutes, it was so simple I thought it wasn’t worth posting, but since you liked it, I thought I’d share. It’s actually one long tube that I wrap around my neck three times.

DIY Cupcake Toppers
Nothing says “I’m a failure as a mother and a human being” like some supermarket desserts. HA! Just kidding. Homemade-organic or on sale at Target, give your treats the handmade touch with these super cute dessert toppers that you can whip up in about 5 minutes, with stuff you probably have at home.

GUEST POST: DIY Baby Legwarmers from a pair of socks!
My sister-in-law Stevee sent this awesome DIY all the way from Nashville (modeled by my adorable niecey, baby Jojo!) and I had to share it with you! Take a cute pair of ladies’ socks and turn it into legwarmers for your little one in just a few minutes.

Ruffle Heart T-Shirt
Scarlet loved this plain purple t-shirt, but she is freakishly tall, so alas it had grown too short. I thought I’d add a ruffle to lengthen it and a little heart for some valentine’s day cuteness.

DIY Gift: Kid Art Trivet
Here’s a gift I think even the coolest childless Uncle would appreciate: a trivet featuring your kid’s artwork! It’s kid-cuteness in a modern and useful package. And just as an aside, Scarlet is obviously so talented, right? You thought I bought these at the MOMA didn’t you?
But no, I made them from some of her paintings to send off to her three grandmas and two grandpas for Valentine’s day. And she’s so proud of them, the look on her face was priceless when she saw the finished product!

Sewing with Patterns
Since I’ve mentioned my irrational fear of my new sewing machine here, I thought that I would share my first little project. Baby steps, baby steps. But let me tell you, auto needle threading has already changed my life!
I made this little wool felt doggie using Vogue Pattern 7760.
If you are having trouble getting started with sewing, we highly recommend using a pattern. A pattern will include detailed instructions, which will usually challenge you to try new techniques that you might not have even know about otherwise. You learn alot! This one is especially fun because you don’t have to worry about the item fitting when you are done, as Jaime said, “Guaranteed results!”
With his little heart patches, this little guy would make a cute Valentine’s day gift!
Tangerine Ginger Sorbet

I haven’t written about it too much here on Prudent Baby, but I’m sort of obsessed with making ice cream and sorbet. I experimented with this one and I really like it for a wintry treat. You can even make it without an ice cream maker, get the full Tangerine Ginger Sorbet recipe after the jump…
