Color-in Valentine’s Day Cards: Free Download!

My friend Asia at The Design Pocket created these insanely adorable valentines that you can print out and have your kids color in!  I had to share them with you because they would be perfect to send off to the family, the right combo of high-design cute and kid-made loveliness, AND they make a great kid-mom activity, which is always a huge bonus.

There are four per page and they say adorable things like “Owl be your Valentine!” Get the Free Downloadable Valentine’s Day Coloring Cards here.

Jaime and Jacinda’s Homeschooling Fun

Don’t worry, not the real kind of homeschooling.

Funny Story. Once a woman in Starbucks asked me (while I was with 1yr old Clare) if I would like a brochure on homeschooling and I said “no thank you, do you have any information on boarding school?” She was horrified. My husband always tells me that I’m not as funny as I think I am. I’d guess that homeschooling lady would agree. No, really, homeschooling is very cool, I’m no-kidding in awe of it.

Ok, so Jaime and I have been talking about making an effort to improve the quality of the time we spend with the kiddos. To plan creative activities and such. Today, Clare and I made these necklaces! It was actually something we could both enjoy. At first I tried to give her a coordinated palette of beads and tie between her beads but she wanted to do her own thing and … wait for it… I just let her. We had so much fun just hanging out and having some crafty fun! PS. I asked her who she wanted to make a necklace for and she said “you, mommy.” (tear)

Un-Romantic Valentines Day

Jacinda asked me to share with you a time-honored tradition in the Curtis household:  Un-Romantic Valentines Day.  Throw your man a super Un-Romantic V-Day and fall in love all over again!

The story is this:  Early on in our relationship Carleton made it clear he thought it was a little unfair that men are expected to wow the ladies on Valentines Day AND anniversaries, while we all just sit back and wait to be showered with romance of a sort men don’t usually enjoy that much.  I thought that was pretty reasonable, so we made a deal:  On our anniversary he would plan something special for the two of us, and in exchange I would take on Valentines Day and plan something HE would think was fun.  It’s worked out really well for us, I get super awesome anniversaries, and I have a lot of fun creating Valentines Day treats for Carleton.  And the next day when they’re all broke from flowers and expensive dinners, his friends sometimes tell me how awesome I am, which I have to admit can kinda be the best part.

The pictures above are snippets from some Un-Romantic Valentines Days past.  Find out what we did, and maybe spark an idea or two for your boy after the jump.  And I am starting to run a little thin on ideas so if you can leave me some in the comments I’d be forever grateful!

DIY Strap Cover

My musician friend Erin (of Mix Tape) celebrated the big 3-0 this weekend. I made her a little gift so she can coordinate outfit to instrument on stage. I like the fact that it’s functional (a guitar strap for her fancy-schmancy guitar) but also homemade (a cover made with a teensy bit of a gorgeous fabric she actually gave me for my birthday).

This simple DIY works for camera straps, guitar straps, or any sort of strap. I think it would even work for a BELT!  Think of it, you could have ONE belt with a bunch of covers to match all your cute outfits.  How prudent.

DIY Birth Announcement with FREE downloads

I can’t believe Quinn is 9 months old. Crazy! To celebrate her 3/4 year birthday, I thought that I would share her birth announcement, complete with the artwork files. Funny story, The announcement I sent to Jaime came back to me (return to sender) like 3 months after we sent them out. She never got one and was feeling neglected but never mentioned it. AS IF I would leave Jaime off the list!

Best. Gift. Ever.

Fellow Stationery nerds, you must get your hands on a Return Address Blind Embosser. Mine was a Christmas gift, purchased from Paper Source. The quality is very nice, and I got to pick from a bunch of pretty fonts. This is an excellent gift idea! In fact, you may want to drop a v-day hint.
