Simple Sandwich Cookies

My husband is a chocolate freak.  He eats it everyday.  He also has not an ounce of fat on him AND low cholesterol.  Not fair.  Anyhoo, here’s an easy way to take an ordinary cookie and make it more chocolatey by turning it into a sandwich.  These are peanut butter cookies but any cookie can be enhanced by a layer of chocolate, no?  Get the recipe after the jump…

What is a Serger? What does a Serger do?

What is a serger? What does a serger do?

Why, let me show you in all-new video format.

A serger is a type of sewing machine, with it you can sew your own stretch t-shirts and sweatpants as well as finish hems so your projects look super professional. This serging basics video will show you three of the basic stitches you can create with a serger: a three thread overlock, a rolled hem and a t-shirt hem.  It’s super easy, check it out (and ignore how messy my garage workspace is please).

Recycle Baby Shower Cards: 4 Ways

Our friend Robyn came to Prudent Baby with a great crafty question…

“Do you know of any good projects that use all the cards we got for Zane at his baby showers?”

So in addition to our recent DIY for origami boxes, we pulled together a few more ideas.

If you are a sentimental nerd AND a stationary geek (like me) you might not want to actually cut your cards. Simply display them on a ribbon or bakers twine with tiny clothes pins. These are from Paper Source, but I recently saw them at Michael’s, in the wood isle.

If you can bear to take to your cards with scissors (or have a copier, he he), here are three more…

Take this tip from Amesh and glue your cards to wood (or cardboard) blocks. You can also mix it up and add some baby photos and pretty decorative papers. Mod Podge would also be excellent for this but beware of using mod Podge with the (typically) water-soluble ink in home printers, it will run.

Make a mobile. Punch your art out of the cards using a Large Craft Punch. Glue circles of decorative paper to the back side with ribbon sandwiched in-between. Tie the ribbons to an embroidery hoop covered in decorative paper.

Or use the circle punched cards sandwiched with ribbon and make an adorable garland.

Does anyone have other ideas for Robyn?

Freestyle Hot Mess Mommy Dress

So I found this fabric on ultra clearance at Joanne’s and I thought it could be pretty fabulous.  I was in the mood to sew while little S was napping but didn’t have a pattern so I just started cutting and sewing and this is what I came up with.  Note my husband’s mad picture taking skills that created a shadow to make me look ten pounds thinner then I have in years.  Love him.

I don’t have a full DIY but I did draw out a pattern of sorts if this seems like your kind of dress.  It’s just really fun to kind of go at sewing freestyle and see what you come up with.  Get the details after the jump

And thanks for the post Craft Gossip!

Fleece Bonnet Sewing Project with Free Pattern

This Fleece Bonnet Sewing Project with Free Pattern is an easy way to keep your nugget’s noggin protected.

We recently had Quinn baptized in the same little cap that Clare wore a few years ago for her baptism. I was reminded that I love this style baby hat and decided to try one on my own using a more functional fabric. I added a ruffle, which makes this ultra girly, but this style could definitely work for a boy, sans ruffle.

Get the DIY after the jump.
