When we spotted these wood stump coasters from Sewing Barefoot they just seemed like a must for preparing for the season of cozy. Shannon’s free template also makes them a cinch to cut out and sew. Yes, even a beginner sewist can take a stab at these. Bring a set of them to a holiday party for the hostess, and keep an extra set for yourself. I made a few felt leaf coasters last year and they’ve been holding up great. I think now I need some of these to add to the mix.
To cozy-up your home a little more, try making these Knit Cacti – they add a bright touch of green throughout these colder seasons, and they’ll never die! Shannon also has great tutorials for an iPad Stand that is incredibly handy, and for creating Hidden Storage with Books. Now, let’s curl up by the virtual yule log fire and start sewing up these cuties.

I had the amazing luck to be invited by Kellogg’s to New York for the launch of their 100 day countdown to the Winter Olympics in Sochi. At breakfast, I met Kristi Yamaguchi! I will never forget watching her win the gold in 1992, I was totally starstruck.
But even before that, I was totally stoked because when I arrived to my hotel, there was a box of pop tarts with my picture on it. You know you’ve made it when you’re on pop-tarts 😉 When I posted this picture on my instagram and facebook, y’all got very excited. Did you know you can order your own personalized pop tarts? Yes, you can! Right here. You can also get your face on various cereals. I know, amazing right?
So, after we met the athletes on Team Kellogg’s, we had a lovely afternoon in the city before heading to Rockefeller Center, where we were expected to put on ice skates and skate with Kellogg team USA members, 2010 Olympic Silver medalists/2010 gold hopefuls Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
Anyone who knows me knows I am clumsy, but I threw on those ice skates…
…and Charlie held me up while I pretended I knew how to ice dance. He is so charismatic and talented!
It was so amazing to be in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza on the ice… a truly magical experience. From there we walked out for a delicious Italian meal. In the morning, we woke up and headed out to cooking school to prepare our own brunch. I worked on a delicious spinach and feta side dish with a cornflake crust, while my friends pictured here, Fred of Mocha Dad and Danielle of Extraordinary Mommy prepared adorable chicken ‘n waffle appetizers using eggo minis.
It was a delicious meal. Then I played with my food 🙂
In the afternoon we headed to Times Square, where the US Olympic Committee was celebrating the #roadtosochi with a 100-day-out celebration that included an ice rink, luge, and this giant mountain of snow on which Kellogg’s Team USA member Torin Yater-Wallace showed off his freeskiing skills. He’s only 17! He’s amazing!
I had major USA pride standing in Times Square celebrating the best athletes in our nation. I can’t wait to sit on my couch for two straight weeks watching them. HA! Thank you Kellogg’s for inviting me to this wonderful event. Go Team USA!
Next week I will be sharing more about the amazing and inspiring athletes of Kellogg’s Team USA and how they got their great starts (their parents are so cute!), but you can meet the whole team right now here: Kellogg’s Team USA. But what I really want you to know is that everytime you tweet or instagram with the hashtag #greatstarts, Kellogg’s will donate a breakfast to a child in need. Every child deserves a great start!
I love a good recycling craft project. I get it from my mom, who always had the hall closet stuffed with empty egg cartons, paper towel rolls and used tin-foil. It gives me goosebumps to throw away a Popsicle stick. Imagine my delight when the fine editors of All You Magazine invited us to participate in their new feature, Take This, Make That, where they ask two craft bloggers to create a beautiful, yet easy & inexpensive, project using the same everyday object. Our challenge object was yogurt cups!
I made this wreath and I have to say… it’s pretty awesome. My favorite part is that you can grab a can of spray paint and give it a seasonal makeover in 5 minutes. So I bashfully ask y’all to head on over to the All You facebook page and give our wreath a vote. There’s not a prize but it will make me feel amazing. I think you have to “like” All You in order to vote but that shouldn’t be a problem if you like pretty, crafty, bargain-y things. You can also pick up a copy of the November issue of All You on shelves now. And if you have your own yogurt cup project, you can enter it and maybe win $25 from Michaels!
Happy Halloween! Since today is all about putting on a costume and a new face, we have a special project with that theme in mind. Designer, Cori Dantini, put together this Recipe for a Face project for the book, Craft-a-Doodle: 75 Creative Exercises from 18 Artists. She walks you through the steps and adds helpful tips for drawing the cutest faces.
Don’t be afraid if you don’t call yourself an artist, this is simple enough for any skill level. Have fun with it too and add your own personal embellishments to your faces. I have a stack of blank white cards that I think these faces could look adorable on for holiday cards.
So that book I mentioned… With prompts and exercises from 18 different artists, you are sure to turn your doodling into masterpieces in no time.

Eeek! Halloween is almost here and Ally from Nail in the Coffee has the cutest nail tutorial just for the spooky day. You might remember her beautiful Neon and Nude nails, and her 4th of July Nail Art tutorial. Have you tried them yet? These candy corn nails are oh so sweet and use a fun matte finish. I can’t wait to try them myself!
On this episode of The DIY Challenge, Kayli from HeyKayli and I show you how to make spike hoop earrings. This is a fun and edgy project that is super easy to do. You can add them to your growing collection of DIY jewelry, along with our DIY Pyramid Stud Earrings. If you make a pair let us know on our Facebook, Twitter, and/or Pinterest board.
If you follow me on Instagram @PrudentJaime, then you know we were doing a video shoot around the cities of Manchester Village in Vermont, Boston, and right in the heart of New York City at Times Square. For a Southern California gal, there’s nothing quite like experiencing a taste of fall on the East Coast! And lots of tastes of champagne, too. Come along with me on our #LCroadtrip…
We started our journey at The Equinox in Vermont. This was the view from our large and well-appointed rooms… stunning.
We headed out on a flyfishing adventure (pictured above). This was so fun, but my favorite part was all of the crafty lures our instructor hand made…
Then we went off-roading at the Land Rover driving school. It was so beautiful.
At the Dorset Quarry we had a magical moment where the leaves just seemed to all fall on us at once. I can’t wait to see the video.
From there, we hopped in the car for our four-hour jaunt to Boston. It was a truly picturesque drive, we kept stopping to take photos like the city slickers we are. You’d think we’d never seen a tree before, but honestly I had never seen anything like Vermont in the fall. Awe inspiring.
