Since Halloween is right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to share this easy pumpkin craft you can do with the kids. Giustina, from Domestically Blissful, came up with this fun project. I love the simple idea of turning a salt dough ball into a pumpkin with the help of a piece of string. Make a bunch for a last minute mini pumpkin patch in your home. You could also tie a tag to the stem and use them for Thanksgiving place cards.
Today we are sharing a project from this awesome book, Flip Dolls & Other Toys That Zip, Stack, Hide, Grab & Go. This adorable Peekaboo Turtle comes with a free template and instructions to help you as you go. They would make great early holiday gifts or babyshower gifts, don’t you think?
I went to a wedding this weekend and my friend was wearing the prettiest pair of pyramid stud earrings. During the ceremony I definitely tried to come up with a way to snatch them right out of her ears, but since that plan failed it’s onto making them. Vanessa from Cafe Craftea is the brains behind this super simple and adorable project. They can literally take you less than 5-minutes to make. Here’s an idea, rock your pyramid earrings with a DIY Pyramid Wristlet Purse!
This week was more fun than a basket of kittens! Partly because we got A BASKET OF KITTENS! You can hear THAT story in the video above. As Colleen said, it’s like you have three babies for when your human babies are asleep. Um, perfect, just what I was looking for! But no really, I like them… A lot. Like I suddenly understand cat ladies.
But other awesome things happened this week. Read on for all of our adventures while Colleen was working in the Dallas office! (more…)
Decorate for Halloween and keep those pesky ghosts away with these easy DIY Halloween Ghost Catchers. They take less than an hour to make and can be embellished however you would like. We hung plastic spiders on ours, but I think next time I’ll also make sure to add in felt bats and even a little crow perched on top.
I was inspired to make these from my growing collection of dreamcatchers. I wanted Halloween decorations that could be used for years to come, and would easily fit in with the current decor. The building I live in is supposedly haunted, so it doesn’t hurt to have a few of these hanging around too.
Check out the DIY Halloween Ghost Catcher tutorial after the jump…
If you have ever had an inkling to try to upholster a thrift store find, this awesome book can show you how. Amanda Brown is the author and brains behind Spruce: A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design. In just about a week and a half, Amanda and her troop of Sprucettes will hit the road for her first official book tour, plus she’ll be doing classes in each city. You may remember when Jacinda went to visit the Spruce headquarters. So cute!
Spruce: A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design is packed from cover to cover with over 900 photos to teach you the ins and outs of upholstery. Amanda focuses on five key projects – louis chair, slipper chair, wingback, sofa, and tufted ottoman – to gradually show you how to upholster at every level. I’ll let Amanda tell you a little more…
As a self-admitted furniture hoarder (luckily I can hide behind the front of “It’s for the shop!”), I’m so glad to have upholstery in my bag of tricks! Through each piece of furniture, I can create something special, customize the comfort and design of the piece, and witness a miraculous transformation all by my own hands. You can’t imagine how satisfying that is until you plop down on that cushy, reinvented sofa with a glass of wine to watch your favorite flick. Just don’t spill!
The Spruce book gives you the skills from A to Z to reupholster any piece of furniture and the inspiration to look beyond the tattered, dirty exterior of that thrift store find. It’s exactly the source I wish I had 6 years ago when I picked up my staple gun for the first time! If you’re in Austin, I hope you’ll stop by the shop, or join us for one of our classes on book tour. We’d love to meet you!
We’ve been pretty amped about Halloween lately – if you couldn’t tell from our costume round-up and tips for How to Host a Spooky Halloween + Giveaway – and today we’re talking spooky decor. Let’s start with this adorable Finger-Knit Ghost Garland tutorial from Anne at Flax & Twine. How cute are these little ghosts? This is a great Halloween project for the kids to help with too.
