When Buster Moon, a romantic dreamer of a koala played by Matthew McConaughey, schemes to save his theater with a singing contest, hilarity and heartbreak and high-notes ensue. I loved all of the characters in SING, from punk rock porcupine Ash, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, to Rosita, an overworked mom of 25 piglets who dreams of stardom, played by Reese Witherspoon. The kids and I found ourselves rooting for this band of animal misfits and singing right along.

I think we could all relate to the characters’ desire to belt out a tune, even if it’s just from the comfort of our own living room (or shower.) It inspired me to pull together the perfect Easter basket inspired by SING.

Instant Pot Garlic Pork & Kale Recipe

Instapot Garlic Pork & Kale Recipe 4This recipe will blow your dang mind. For real. Even if you aren’t that into pork (like me), or kale (also like me), there’s something about the way the pressure cooker disintegrates the garlic into the sauce that makes it all add up to some serious magic for your mouth. Bonus, my 8-year-old daughter LOVES this dinner (did I mention it has kale? yeah, she still gobbles it up) and it easily freezes for leftovers, which can be repurposed deliciously in a way I will explain later in this post.

So, let’s talk about the Instant Pot. I’m obsessed, as I am sure many of you or your friends are. I got mine about a year ago, and didn’t start sharing recipes because I didn’t feel they would be useful, because most people didn’t have one. Well, it seems Instant Pot has now reached some sort of critical mass, and people want recipes! So, I have been experimenting over the last year with making some of my favorite recipes faster and easier in the Instant Pot, and now I think it is time to share. You can benefit from my year of early-adopter learnings, or if you don’t have an Instant Pot (or whatever pressure cooker), you can make this in a crock pot.Instapot Garlic Pork & Kale Recipe 6

Lucky Charms Ice Cream Recipe

Lucky Charms Ice CreamScarlet and I have been making ice cream, which is rather complicated when you use a custard base and an 8-year-old helper, but also acts a science project with a – in this case – magically delicious result. We’ve done the standards (vanilla, mint) and have been coming up with interesting flavors to try. So when she suggested we make Lucky Charms ice cream for St. Patrick’s Day, I was like DEFINITELY.
Lucky Charms Ice Cream Recipe The easy version of this would just be to buy some vanilla ice cream, let it soften, and mix in some cereal marshmallows, but we wanted to infuse the ice cream with cereal flavor. Find out how we did it with our Lucky Charms Ice Cream Recipe after the jump… (more…)

How to Watercolor Paint A Butterfly

how to paint watercolor butterflies

I just passed the 50 day mark in my Painting a Day Challenge for 2017. I’ve done over 50 paintings this year guys!! That feels amazing. I’ve started to hear from some of you that you wish that you could paint (and you can!!) so I’ve started developing a series of easy beginner projects. Here is a quick video about how to paint watercolor butterflies that I shot on my phone for fun. My favorite part about this project is that it is a really simple way to learn how watercolor paint reacts and mixes depending on how much water you use and where.

If you try some and post them on Instagram or Facebook, please tag me so I can see! It was basically my happiest moment in life when I got to see some butterflies painted using my tutorial this weekend.

After my butterflies dried, I cut them out, bent their wings in and stuck them to the wall with double stick tape. They are so pretty for a spring party or just for everyday happiness.

Sweet Simple Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake Recipe
For a last-minute Valentine treat you can whip up today, this project from our book, Pretty Prudent Home: Your Ultimate Guide to Creating a Beautiful Family Home, is perfect. It looks like a basket of berries fresh from the farm. This recipe is a simple assembly project: Layer three delicious ingredients for a major hit of charm. Pick up a strawberry basket from your local craft store, then layer lady fingers, strawberries, and whipped cream. For the top layer of strawberries, slice the tops off and place the strawberries cut-side down on top of the whipped cream. For added fun watch our video on making flavored whipped creams.

DIY Powerpuff Girls Sleep Masks

This post is in partnership with Hulu.
Powerpuff Girls DIY Sleep Mask
Scarlet LOVES The Powerpuff Girls, so when we found out Hulu is now the only place to find the full classic animated series, we got excited. The Powerpuff Girls were the first cartoon I can remember where the girls were the heroines – bubbly and cute, but also total badasses. I love Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles.

Powerpuff Girls on Hulu So, The Powerpuff Girls have to save the world and still get home by bedtime. That’s a tall order, but I like all things that encourage going to bed at bedtime. We thought we would make some cute little no-sew sleep masks that your little girls and boys can wear when it’s time to tuck in for the night. These are easy-peasy to make together; get the full tutorial after the jump… (more…)
