Homemade Cheez-It Apple Pie

Remember those mouth-watering Quick and Easy Homemade Cheeze-it’s our good friend Macki whipped up for us last week? Ya, the ones that – if you’re like me – you started making that night and haven’t quite stopped. Good news, she is back and has taken those healthy and delectable cheesy treats to a whole new level…

I’m definitely on a cheese kick around here, so much so that I’ve made Jaime’s Apple + Cheddar Pie twice in one week. I think this might be due to the fact that I’m joining Jacinda in the outnumbered group. Yep, I’m knocked up with kid number 3. I’m craving so much cheese I’m beginning to wonder if I’m going to give birth to a giant block of cheese, with some jalapenos on the side. I’ve taken my craving and Jaime’s pie and made what even the non-preggos (like my husband and kids and neighbor) sing praises for my bravery. You see, I took those homemade cheese crackers I made (I made a TON) and turned them into a crust for the apple pie. As if that wasn’t enough, I attempted 2 variations of crust. One is a more traditional pie crust and the other closer to a graham cracker crust. Both equally exciting and delicious.

Along with serving us up delicious tutorials, Macki also blogs about easy and fun recipes at The Family Kitchen. Her Sriracha Salt and Father’s Day Foodie Gifts are perfect for Dad.

Now, let’s get to making these mouth-watering Homemade Cheeze-It Apple Pie Crusts after the jump…

Pancake + Cupcake = Pancake Cups

Here’s an easy-peasy idea for a Father’s Day breakfast the kids can help you whip together… it’s a pancake baked in a muffin tin to create a little pancake cup. It’s like a magical intersection on the corner of Breakfast Boulevard and Dessert Street.

I had so much fun making Milkmates (remember those super fun frozen flavor cubes?), so when milk asked me to contribute another recipe to the breakfast project, I was excited to grab the camera and let Scarlet run the show. We needed to come up with a recipe for father’s day, and seeing this fun little graphic reinforced our intuition that something in the pancake family was definitely the way to go. Watch the video to get the easy peasy (Scarlet makes ’em herself!) pancake cup recipe.

Keeping the Kids Occupied: 50 Summer Activities to Tire Out the Kids

Science experiments accomplish 3 awesome goals. 1) A whole educational lesson revolves around them. 2) They can keep the kiddos entertained all day long. 3) They are just so cool. Learn all about the power of sound waves by watching oobleck dance (what is oobleck? Oh, you’ll see.). Study the formation of crystals by making geodes. These 25 At-Home Science Experiments are all about eruptions (mini ones), blasting rockets into the air and walking on eggshells and yes, there is something to be learned from each one.

And once you’ve mastered the stages of solid, liquid, gas and watched elephant toothpaste foam over, get outdoors and have a whole day of fun planned with these 25 Outdoor Activities to Entertain the Kids. You will be playing lawn twister and whipping up a water wall in no time.

Tie Dye Summer Tote

I’ve done it! After all these years of fearing the mess, the unpredictability, the “looking like I just left a Phish concert,” I’ve tried tie dye and I am hooked! I seriously can’t stop searching around the house for things I can dye! I even considered staying home from my Italian vacation this week, just to tie dye! No, actually I didn’t consider that at all but I AM bringing this adorable market/beach tote that I made along for the trip. Here’s how I made it with Tulip Tie Dye

What’s Green and Pink and Read All Over? It’s Friday I’m in Love.

Random blog we are crushing on: All the Pretties. I’m currently obsessed with mint green (I still love you coral), so this jade/jadite round up made me swoon, and then click click click where did my evening go. You know how it is.

Place we wish we were headed this weekend: Palazzo Terranova in Umbria, Italy. OH WAIT WE ARE HEADED THERE! TOMORROW! JACINDA AND JAIME 4EVER!!!

Favorite comment(s) of the week: Pretty much every single comment on this week’s Fabric Friday has been hilarious. This week’s giveaway is for a yard of Star Wars themed fabric, so we asked you to leave comments with your favorite Star Wars character or line. Reading them is too funny, like Mary who said “Chewbacca, He looks like my cat.” Lol. There’s still time to enter before we announce the winner and the new pattern for this week, check it out here: Fabric Friday.

Trend I am jumping on rather late: Ombre hair. And also bleached out photos that look like they’ve been sitting in the sun since 1972. If you don’t like it, please just lie to me, because it was one of those two-day-long dramatic hair experiences and I just don’t have it in me to go back anytime soon.

Project we wish we had posted: Crockpot Bread. I love crock pots. I love bread. Lightbulb!

This thing I acquired and utterly detested: Pink Eye (This is why you started reading blogs, right? To see lovely pictures like this?) Also, just FYI, this is the kind of thing I like to text Jacinda, along with something like “you hungry? meet me for dinner?”

This thing that I acquired and utterly adore: My new bike! It’s a Biria. I originally had a hankering for a Linus, but this was half the cost and just as cute. As I am sure you know, cuteness is the most important thing to consider when purchasing a bike. All those baskets are by Basil, which you can find at Adeline Adeline (obsessed). Yes I am crocheting a cover for my ugly lock. Yes, I know, I totally need some flowers and a baguette. And my friend Anna says also a floppy hat and floral keds. One thing at a time.

So that’s what’s going on in my neck of the woods. What’s a-happening with you, hot stuff?

A Scavenger Hunt on Ice

I’m so excited to share with y’all that I’ve launched a new video series with DailyCandy Kids. I’ll be sharing fun crafts, DIYs, and activities to do with your littles throughout the year. For our first adventure, we made dad the coolest Father’s Day gift on the block – a scavenger hunt on ice.

It’s simple, sweet, and a totally fun way to celebrate dad’s big day. Looks a little mysterious right? I suspect you’re gonna like the idea, so be sure to head over to DailyCandy Kids to see my family (and our family BFFs, the Baxters) show you what it’s all about. Check out the video here: DailyCandy Kids: The Coolest Father’s Day on the Block.

And can we give my husband some props for letting me point my camera at him so often? Love that guy. #1 Dad!

Father’s Day DIY Gift Round Up

For the dad on the go, make him a toiletry bag out of fabric and vinyl or a full waterproof oilcloth toiletry bag.

If he loves to work outdoors in the garden give him a collection of polymer garden stones to use as labels.

Or take it a step further and make him long lasting cement garden stones.

If he is the kind of dad that is all about his gadgets, he will love to know his laptop will stay nice and safe in a manly laptop sleeve that uses velcro or a laptop sleeve with snaps.

And if you just want to give him something that says, kick back and relax, whip up some cute and fun mustache lollipops

Along with a pair of the most comfy pajama pants. What other DIY ideas have you come up with for Father’s Day?
