Happy Friday!
The Husband hooked me up with a bunch of new music for Christmas. It wasn’t hard to do, I hadn’t acquired a new CD in over a year. I was in a rut of listening to Scarlet’s Dance Attack 2009 on repeat under the dictatorship of a three year old. He saw that an intervention was required. Now if you are a music buff, most of these gems won’t be news to you but if, like me, you have been hiding under a rock for a while, you might find something you like! And most of the digital versions of these CD’s are between $5-$10 on Amazon! I have found great joy listening to grown-up (but mostly child-friendly) music while I hide in the craft cave til the week hours of the morning.
Jaime and Carleton are much better at keeping on the cutting edge, maybe she will have some more obscure stuff to add. Maybe you do too! Please do leave a comment. If we like it best, you will win a yard of pom-poms from my stash!

We have a problem and its name is MONSTERS! These dreadful beasts live in Scarlet’s closet and they are such pesky creatures: even though daddy puts them in a jar and throws them outside every night, they keep coming back! We have had enough of their frightfulness and last week declared THAT’S IT: Time to make some MONSTER SPRAY!
Made with a few simple items from around the home and some secret monster-removal goo, MONSTER SPRAY! allows S to vanquish the beasts herself. This, along with The Tape Trick, has done a lot to ease our bedtime woes. Power to the babies!

I’ve been scouring the earth to find a toy sewing machine for Scarlet for awhile, but I’ve only encountered toy-looking machines that actually include a needle – too dangerous at her age. There’s a barbie one, a hello kitty one
, even a bratz one
(no thanks). My mom found this vintage fisher price cutie on ebay and won it for Scarlet, and she ADORES IT. It has a plastic fake needle that goes up and down and makes a fun clicking sound when you turn the wheel. Scarlet dug up an old doily and says “Mommy I sew this for you” and pretends to run it through the machine. So cute.
Have any of you encountered a toy sewing machine appropriate for a child? What do you do to help your kid feel included in sewing time? let us know in the comments, you could win some beautiful pom pom trim in the color of your choice!

A potholder! What a satisfying little project. When I saw Jaime’s Pretty Potholders Tutorial last week, I knew I had to try it. Oddly, we are very particular about our potholders here, but with a few tweaks I was able to recreate our favorite style… and with a ruffle of beautiful fabric!
Check out this version of Jaime’s Pretty Potholder after the jump.

The people in my life know me so well – I got THREE sets of these for Christmas and Hanukkah! I love them so much, I thought I’d share the bounty by hosting a little giveaway.
These Matryoshka Measuring Cups by Fred M include a 3-layer matryoshka, with each side of each doll a different perfect measure to create 6 measuring cups between 1/4 cup and 1 full cup.
They’re so cute, you know you want them. As you know, I like to complain about my dislike of baking, but I have seriously been coming up with random things to bake just as an excuse to use them. And of course, Scarlet loves playing with them.
So for this giveaway, tell us what you would like to measure if only you could. I would like to know, if you laid it all out, the yardage of fabric scraps I have tossed. I would also like to know the weight of ruined cookie dough I have thrown away. However, I do not want to know the weight of cookies I have eaten since Thanksgiving.
Leave your comment anytime between now and midnight next Wednesday January 12th. We will randomly select a winner (with a US address) and announce next week. Tweet, stumble, and/or share the giveaway on facebook and leave another comment each time letting us know for an additional entry. Come back every day for new entries. Happy measuring!
