LINK LOVE

Welcome to a special Sunday edition of LINK LOVE. I was planning to completely blow off Link Love this week (because I’m totally in vacation mode) but we do have some cool things that we want to share with you, plus Sara noticed that it was missing and that made me sad (but at the same time happy that she enjoys Link Love.) Remember, any comment you leave this week might win you that great fabric up there to the left.

Head over to  Blue Eyed Yonder to see Krista’s play kitchen project. I’m in love. This is further proof that you shouldn’t be in a rush for ALL of your friends to have babies. This kitchen was a birthday gift for SOMEONE ELSE’S KID. Isn’t that fantastic?

The gals over at Deucecities Henhouse just opened a SHOP selling their awesome hand-printed greeting cards. I love their style. Check out  Finn’s recent birthday party and Elsa’s beautiful birthday cake.

How about Orange KILLED IT this week with links to all kinds of fabulous DIYs and downloadables. Start with this DIY for Japanese masking tape twist ties. But don’t miss these sweet labels for food cannisters, or this printable for embroidery thread cards. (I need these. Have you SEEN the tangle that is my embroidery thread?)

It seems like I am seeing recipes for Panzanella everywhere. It may be my salad craving that has it catching my eye. This greek version from Annie’s Eats might push me over the edge to try it at home.

This is very cool.

It’s about time that my facebooking actually result in something other than the knowledge that my highschool boyfriend is going to see Phish… again.

And lastly, Jaime and I were asked to share our favorite children’s book, illustrator and more, as part of Ohdeedoh’s Learning At Home month. Here is Jaime’s and here is mine. And here is a list of all of the interviews.

Friday {SURPRISE} PRIZE!

Man, everyone was so helpful and hilarious this week it was really hard to choose a favorite. Maybe we’ll just keep the fabric. No, kidding. Our favorite comment came from Melissa of Honeyscrap on the Fresh Fruit Pie post, who said:

My MIL has a similar recipe that involves an instant jello pack. When I first married my hubby I wanted to impress him (of course by showing him I was a better cook than his mother) and when I made the pie I forgot the jello pack…so it tasted like nothingness.
Recently, I tried the pie again (after taking a four year break) and this time the filling was perfect…except I forgot to prebake the crust…so THIS time it tasted like gooey sadness.
I think I need to try this one to boost my baking ego!….and still prove that I am better than his mother:)

If only. I think we should rename the recipe “Better Then His Mother Pie”… but then the world would run out of strawberries and our servers would crash as every wife from Alaska to Zimbabwe downloaded it.  Our MILs read this site so that’s all we are going to say about that. Use the Contact Form to send us your address and your fabric will be wrapped and shipped right away. Don’t be alarmed if you notice a few dried tears on the envelope, it’s not going to be easy for me to say goodbye. Winners have 5 days to contact us with their address before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE! More double gauze that is…go ahead and drool over this “treffle” matryoshka fat quarter from Kokka.

This beauty could be yours, just enter to win this giveaway by leaving a comment on any post over the next week. Say whatever is on your mind, you delight us. We’ll pick our favorite next Friday and mail this luscious fabric off. Good Luck!

Fresh Fruit Pie

This pie was always a favorite for Summer birthdays in my family. We weren’t big into cake (I know, crazy.) I love this pie most because you can use whatever fruit is in season and any combination, really. Blueberry is the best but peach is amazing and strawberry is really good too. Blueberry and Peach? I can’t even stand how delicious this is. Lucky for us, so much is abundant and inexpensive this time of year. Experiment with any fruit you have on hand! I bet nectarines and raspberries would be so good! The other great part about this pie is that the filling isn’t baked.

And remember, any comment you leave this week could win you the fantastical Heather Ross double gauze fat quarters up there to the left. What’s your favorite Summer dessert?

Operation Sleep Cute: Sleep Shorts

I actually took a picture of the giant pile of sweatpants that I usually sleep in, but it’s too embarrassing to share.  Point is, I’m trying to cute up the whole sleep situation with some quick sewing projects.  It also makes lounging around the house feel sort of special and less, I don’t know….gross.  I started with some sleep shorts in our beloved Nicey Jane (ooo, it’s on sale right now at Fabricworm).  I also made a matching top which I will share with you once I get up the nerve to have my picture taken in it.

If you have any tips on sleeping a little bit cuter, tutes to point us to so we don’t look like such slobs, or general whining about why it is that we have to look cute while we freaking sleep, leave them for us in the comments and you could possibly win the Heather Ross Double Gauze up there on the left.

Sewing Machines We Like

We get lots of emails asking us to recommend sewing machines, so here goes. The first thing to know is that there are three basic types of sewing machine: Mechanical (uses knobs and levers), Electronic (more precise sewing), and Computerized (fancy-schmancy stitches and such). All are good, but they do get increasingly expensive.  Depending on how much you think you will love sewing and how much you want it to be able to grow with you as you learn more, you can decide how much you want to spend.  A good machine can last twenty years, you just want to try to get one that has enough features and stitches that you won’t outgrow it too soon.

Just so you know, we don’t get paid by any of these people to recommend their machines, and we haven’t tried every machine out there, so I’m sure there are others that are awesome. Let us know if you have a favorite machine in the comments and it could win you the Heather Ross double gauze up there on the left. Get our sewing machine recommendations after the jump…

Garden Bounty, Mutant Fruit, & More Advice Please

A couple of weeks ago I shared me and Scarlet’s little Backyard Farm with y’all, and you gave me some amazing tips. Now look at this bounty! Every day there’s just more and more goodness!

While I was in Wisconsin last week, I forgot to ask the hubs to pick the fruits, so I came home to the mutants below. I put my phone in there to give some perspective on their size. That zucchini was bigger than my arm. But it didn’t get too bitter and we ate it roasted with parmesan cheese.

I followed a bunch of your advice and wanted to say thanks.  There was also one HILARIOUS thing you guys didn’t catch! Let me tell you about it (and ask for your help one more time) after the jump…

FRIDAY {SURPRISE} PRIZE!

Hey ladies!  I narrowly escaped a Hodag attack to make it back home in time to catch up on comments and have my mind blown over Jacinda’s nap mat! Today’s winner gets these three 9″x18″ pieces of wool-blend felt that Jacinda picked up from the Stitch Lab booth at Renegade Craft Fair Austin. There were so many hilarious comments on the White Trash BBQ but I choose this one from the Birds, Binoculars, and Trail Mix Game post:

Roxanne said: That’s a hoot! My daughter’s preschool class did something similar last year, though they went whale watching, rather than bird watching. If the kids enjoy this one, follow it up with whales!

Rozanne – my kid loves whales so I’m totally doing that!  Thanks for the great idea and the clever use of “hoot!” So, If that’s you, use this Contact Form to send us your address and your felt will be on its way!  Winners have 5 days to contact us with their address before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.

Ok, so brace yourselves girls. I can’t believe I’m even giving this away. Well, I bought like ten at Quilt Festival purposefully for the point of sharing with you, so it would be wrong to keep them, I guess.

Oh yes, it’s two fat quarters of the Original Far Far Away by Heather Ross, in DOUBLE GAUZE!! The blue features unicorns and is the same fabric that I made the original Pillowcase Dress from, and the other one features sweet frogs. This collection is pretty much impossible to find, but you can get a few pieces of the double gauze (the super sweet snails) and most of the Far Far Away 2 collection at Fabricworm here.
You enter this giveaway by leaving a comment on any post over the next week.  Make ’em funny, helpful, sweet or just plain weird. We’ll pick our favorite next Friday. Good Luck!
