Aren’t these great??!! It’s so exciting seeing these pictures! Your “As Seen On Prudent Baby” button is over there on the bottom left. Send pics by form or share them with everyone in the Prudent Baby Project Pool on Flickr!
Prudent Baby has the wittiest readers. We like to brag about how rad you are to our husbands while they are trying to pay attention to the World Cup or our children. So we thought, why not brag about you TO YOU?! So from here on out, every Friday afternoon we are going to pick a lovely/funny/weird/awesome commenter from the previous week and send her a prize. We’ve been collecting things here and there from some of our favorite people, shops, and sponsors, so we thought we’d share the little riches. Today’s winner is going to get the yard of beautiful peacock ribbon pictured above. I picked it up at CityCraft when I visited Jacinda in Dallas and I think it’s gorg. I think it would make really cute decoration for a purse, maybe a silver one?
So this week y’all were in top form, but my favorite comment came from pieface on the Crochet & Fabric Top post who said:
Yes, crocheter is a word – but you have to really pronounce the “T” so it’s borderline insulting. Makes it more fun to shock the older ladies at the church picnic circuit and such. This top and dress is PERFECT and I can’t WAIT to try it out. Croche”T”ing is the best and so easy and quick, great project – a big thank you from me.
Nothing is more fun than shocking old ladies at picnics. I wonder what will shock me when I am that old lady.
So, If that’s you, use this Contact Form to send us your address and I’ll send your ribbon. Winners have 5 days to contact us with their address before forfeiting their prize to another lucky reader.
So next week I am giving our favorite commenter a SWEET PRIZE from our lovely sponsor FABRICWORM: An entire HALF YARD of NICEY JANE Oilcloth Picnic Bouquet in Moss. This is a laminated fabric that is gorgeous and easy to work with. So turn on the charm like you always do ladies, we can’t wait to hear what you have to say this week…
Just to clarify: you do not enter this giveaway by leaving a comment on this post. You enter by reading prudent baby all week and leaving funny or interesting comments on any/all of the posts throughout the week. On Friday we will pick our favorite comment from the entire week. Good luck!

I haven’t craved a crunchy cookie (or crunchy anything) in years, but on our recent trip to Minnesota I discovered that my big brother loves biscotti. I idolize him so I decided to try to like biscotti again too, and it turns out, I do! That same week, I made a random love connection with a lovely lady from America’s Test Kitchen. Are you familiar? I am addicted to this show on PBS (DVR it people, i swear you will not regret – i even got my husband addicted to it) as well as a paying subscriber to Cooks Illustrated. So, anyhoo, someone over there is a Prudent Baby fan, and we connected, and she sent me some cookbooks including The Best Simple Recipes (my new favorite cookbook of all time) and a sneak peak of the upcoming Healthy Family Cookbook which comes out the same time as my book and is also available for pre-order now. Test Kitchen recipes are always the best because they test them out ten bajillion ways to understand what makes them work and find the very best way to make an item or meal. The twist in this book is that everything is also made a wee bit healthier, with some wheat flour added or calories cut in each recipe, without reducing flavor or adding weird stuff. So i just started flipping through and came across this biscotti recipe. I did everything exactly as described except one tiny thing I thought I could skip, and my biscotti came out perfectly except for that one tiny detail… Find out what it was and get the full Biscotti Recipe after the jump… (more…)
I am sooooo excited to share this giveaway from The T Boutique with y’all! The T Boutique is a sweet shop where you can order customized hand stamped or photo jewelry and other treats like pet ID tags and wine tags. The reasons I love this shop: We all love to have things that commemorate our kids, but sometimes they just aren’t so awesome to look at. This stuff is insanely unique, modern looking, with clean lines and clear style. I love it. And SUPPORT HANDMADE!
The lady behind the shop is Kim, and here’s what she has to say:
“I am a mother of 3 (4 if you count my husband) and dabble in as much as I can get my hands on (I love working with my hands). I started The T Boutique just before Christmas of 2009 and it’s taken off as an integral part of kimtown. Every year I make gifts to give to family & friends and last year I wanted to create gifts that would last forever. I searched hand stamping techniques, found a passion and here I am! I’ve recruited my 9 yr old daughter and she makes all the kids stuff in The T Boutique. Not long after that, I introduced photo items and our silhouette series. After being a photographer myself for the last 12 years, it was a natural item to add to the boutique. Me and my 3 kids love to go garage sailing, thrifting and market hunting. We get great modern and old world inspiration and always find something fun to bring home!”
Love her! So for this giveaway Kim is giving one lucky Prudent Baby reader the Silhouette Series 3 Photo Necklace above CUSTOMIZED with cameos of whoever you like! You, your husband, and your kid? Your three kids? Two kids and that girl at the coffee shop who always gives you extra whip cream? Whomever you’d like!
To enter this giveaway, head on over to The T Boutique Shop and have a look. Come back and tell us which item is your fav, and since Kim and her three kiddos seem to be having so much fun hanging out sailing, thrifting, and market hunting, go ahead and tell us what your most fun thing to do with your brood is. So I love the name rings (pictured above) and personalized key tags (pictured below) and my fav thing to do with S is go to painting class. Or actually it’s probably taking her to Milk for an ice cream cone but I’ve been doing that too much so painting class it is.
Visit the The T Boutique site here and add Kim’s blog to your reader, then leave another comment for an additional entry. Share the giveaway on facebook by clicking “like” below, or tweet the giveaway, then leave another comment each time letting us know for an additional entry. Come back every day for a new entry. Entries will close at midnight July 21st and a winner will be randomly selected. ENTER AWAY!
Last night I used a few of my favorite Prudent Baby DIYs to give our powder bathroom a little personality. First I stretched a piece of Lourdes Sanchez Botanica Leafy Stripe Dove over a store bought canvas for a quick and inexpensive piece of large wall art (click for Wall Art DIY). And as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t nail a hole in my wall for just anything. Then I whipped up YET ANOTHER of Jaime’s Mod Podge Stools, this time with Lourdes Sanchez Botanica Large Floral Cream fabric (isn’t this entire collection gorg?!). I can’t get enough of these stools. I still want like three more. Apparently I love to torture myself by enabling Clare’s mischief. But I guess she is going to find her way on up on the counter regardless, so it might as well be on a pretty stool, right?
I still have some bathroom accessories to Mod Podge and trimmed hand towels on my to-do list for this space but I was too excited not to share my little decorating project. Both DIYs are so quick and easy with high impact! You should totally make some.
Do any of you sewers also crochet? Or do crocheters also sew? (is crocheters a word?) I’ve been getting the feeling these are one-or-the-other type hobbies. Even so, I’ve just been learning crochet this year and i really like it, though for me it’s a little bit of delayed gratification, since most projects seem to take longer then sewing. That being said, I’ve tried to come up with projects that use crochet but are a little quicker, like this top. You just crochet the neckline, then sew the dress to it. It’s a lot like the Snappy Toddler Top, with a different neckline. The cotton yarn is nice and airy for summer, and I ADORE this Eau de Mer fabric, Push Pin Green, which is on sale right now (along with all japanese import fabric) at Fabricworm. Get the full Quick Crochet & Fabric Top tutorial after the jump… (more…)
